I know we've talked about it recently on here, but I was wondering if the features have always played at DITD and if they are expected to play this year? Maybe Brian would know something about it???

also, someone on here not too long ago made the comment that the Idea Of Growing Old was one of thier favorites. at the time, I thought they were insane for thinking so, but the more I hear it on the site's player, the more it's becoming my favorite as well. just thought i'd share.

Am I going crazy or is "Idea of Growing Old" not on Wiyum's discography site?

I think it's under "Growing Old," or something. It's on there, not that name.

Indeed, Matt introduced it at the last Red Rose show I was at as "Growing Old" so I took that to be its official title. Since the player says otherwise, I have concerns, but since my biggest dilemma has always been Exorcising Demons (vs Demons), and that contradiction exists on this very site (in the "new video" title as well as the player), I've decided not to go overboard unless the band corrects something (which they did when I was calling "48" by the name of "Try."

God love 'em, but Brian and Michael are not as thorough in keeping those little things consistent like that.

Demons is definitely "Exorcising Demons". All the hand-written set lists (from when they used them) say as such. I've heard them call it this.

As for the song about aging, I have a Blue Cats bootleg where Matt calls it "The Idea of Growing Old". I think it was jamiecarroll who introduced the first part of it as a subtitle to us (but I have nothing to back this us). I don't know the answer to this one.

The song is definitely in my top 5, too.

I do know that Matt has both listed and called it "Demons" as of late (check out photo 3 of the 12th and Porter 8/24). Perhaps it's just a case of shortening a title, or maybe it's become the "official" name of the song. Of course I agree with you on the consistency thing with at least me (I won't speak for Michael).

Admittedly I'm not as on top of things as the majority of people who post here. However, going off of setlists to determine song names is not an acceptable tactic in my book. Why write out "The Idea Of Growing Old" when you can just write "Growing Old" or "Old" - apply that example to "Exorcising Demons." Setlists are just notes to the band to know what to play, not official role calls of song titles.

I just used the song titles from the CD's I received to convert for the player. If they are wrong, don't point the finger at me or Brian.

If anything I said was interpreted as finger-pointing, then I've been misunderstood. I was simply pointing out that (Exorcising) Demons was an "official" example of a title that could go both ways. I called the song about aging "Growing Old" because as recently as I know of, Matt has introduced it like that. Forget abbreviated setlist titles, I think you use full titles when introducing a song verbally. So I've taken the song to be called "Growing Old."

I didn't mean to poke at the administrators (there's an easy way to get banned), and I'm surprised that my post was followed up by a reply from both of you.

Anyway, in response to a setlist question, I doubt they'd write "Exorcising Demons" on a setlist if that wasn't the title. I'll also see if I can do better than Carl and back this up.

I've heard it introduced many times by Matt as "The Idea of Growing Old," but "Growing Old" only once. Also, more recently, he has introduced it as the former.

I've never heard the other song in question referred to as simply "Demons," until the launch of V2.

If the song is called "Demons," then my world will be shattered. There's nothing like being proved wrong after believing in something for years. If it is called "Demons," this will be the biggest upset since we found out that Toothpick is saying "phone check" instead of "bone check" in Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood .

I'm not sure that's 100% reliable. I've seen some shows where Pelham will simply step to the mic, say, "Demons" and the start playing it. So I guess it depends on the context. If he said, "This is a new one called 'Growing Old,'" you could take that as the title. If he simply stepped to the mic and said, "'Growing Old,'" I would think he was just being brief.

That's not true. Matt always tells us to drive home safely.

Seriously, though, I would like to hear more banter. On the other hand, I think it gives them a good deal of mystique, which is always cool.

I want them to not only talk more, but have more fun with the crowd. I've head stories where they dress up or play an alternate version of a song and what not. They introduce a song every now and then and that's it. Except when Rollum had to pee at that Red Rose show.

Because when they do, they get kicked out of places. That incident will go down as one of the funniest exchanges between Roger and Matt that I have ever seen. Priceless.

It took place at the last Boro show. It may still be uploaded on the MP3 site under the ingenius title "Roger Gets Raw." It was when Roger stood up for his fans who were standing outside in the below freezing temperatures. Matt just looked at him sheepishly, half-smiled, and said "Um...this is our last show at the Boro..." Priceless.

I could have sworn I posted about this but I don't see a second post from me in here so...

I asked Roger and the song is officially still called "Exorcising Demons". It is often referred to or written on setlists as "Demons" though. They shorten names because, obviously, it's easier and doesn't take as long to write out.

I think the lack of banter really makes for boring bootlegs. It also makes me less excited about going to their shows. The banter adds an individual flavor to each show, making me feel more like I don't want to miss it. The Features shows are just a set of core songs, a few that rotate in and out, and a command to be careful driving home. It takes away from the experience.
I have nothing to back this up, except that if you don't believe me, go see Sam Baker (writer of Hey Lou) in concert with any band. Chances are, you'll get an idea what I'm talking about.

BrianW--what about this song that involves the concept of aging?

Well, I'd like to see them talk more too. True it does add some mystery to them when they don't say much, but personally, i'd rather see some personality, or something - much like that at the boro (that was my 1st show by the way.) On the flip side however, I don't think they should talk too much either. One of the things I liked so much about them the first time i saw them was that I got to hear a lot of songs without a lot of "filler"
Maybe they could just talk for like 5 min total or something?!@# who knows... I'm gonna shut up now.

Yes, ....the Sucks. I saw them live several times and pretty much just talked to Sam Baker while they were playing. It was very fun.

Hooray, I don't need to change the discography for that one.

Could I get a verdict on Growing Old? I certainly believe jamie in his assertion, I just don't want to keep changing it...

Not that it matters too much anyway.

I don't care if they talk or not. I've actually never really thought about the lack of talking. As long as they play, I'll be fine.
