TOPIC: Exhibit A review... hot off the NME press

Evening all...

Just though you would all like to know what NME had to say about Exhibit A, so nice little me that i am have typed it out of the magazine for you... by the way...

The Features
Exhibit A
Temptation
'Softhearted, paternal indie rock from Spartan vets'
The Features' Matt Pelham is a man as adept at changing a nappy as he is at replacing a guitar string. Throughout Exhibit A, he sings about his twin daughters with devout passion and awestruck wonder. Frankly, parenting has rarely sounded so thrillingly rock n'roll. Thats the way its meant to be

p.s. its pretty good as 8/10 is a pretty high standard for NME... so it should be!
(hee hee error!)

sounds like Elvis Costello falling over The Buzzcocks in a frantic trollydash around Mothercare, while the excellently named Parrish Yaw eschews any notions of nauseating chintz with a low frequency synth rumble. Elsewhere, 'The Idea of growing old' sees Pelham sing of domesticated bliss with a sentimental spark in his heart. Whilst NME is happy to keep the contraception at hand for a good while longer, Exhibit A is a broody bundle of soppy indie rock fun.

A good review non?!

NME is the national music express in the UK by the way for all you guys in america, and is the main good music magazine here.

Never thought about this before... but those twins are going to have the coolest dad ever

that is so awesome that they're getting an NME review... i've not read the magazine (nor have i heard great things about it), but that's pretty high-profile stuff.

pretty good review, though "soppy indie rock fun" just sounds... odd.

I keep hearing the Buzzcocks comparison, but I only vaguely remember their stuff from the late 80s/early 90s. Does anyone have an opinion on that?

Thanks, Oddemily. Would you mind copying this post to the pinned thread about Exhibit A reviews? It's a good one and I'd hate for it to get buried...

The Features aren't punk enough for the Buzzcocks comparison, although TWIMTB, MP, and H2I, could lead someone down that path I'd think... Then again, I haven't listene dto the Buzzcocks in about 12 years.

i am pleased with the buzzcocks comparison. much of pete shelley's songwriting is top notch.

however, you must ignore everything that they did once they reunited in 1989. it's just crap. stick to the 77-81 period.

I agree Ray, but the first time you heard The Features did you say "Buzzcocks!" I doubt it. Talking Heads, Cars, Elvis C, yes. Buzzcocks not the first thing in my head.

Its cool to see NME give Exhibit A a good review, as I was worried the Features weren't trendy enough for them. Hopefully they'll do an interview or a feature in the near future, as that might get them really noticed.

Heh- maybe it should've said "As adept at breaking a guitar string..."

I just emailed NME to tell them that they should interview The Features when they come to the UK soon. And i gave them contact email addresses... not that it will make much difference... but at least i tried!
