TOPIC: Features MP3s?
Posted  Thursday, February 21, 2002 at 5:01 PM
Post 1 of 27
Hello again from Lexington!

I am looking for mp3s of: material from the first ep, other early releases (Spongebath compilations?), older unreleased stuff, and any live recordings.

First, let me say that I am not trying to rip anyone off. I would gladly pay for this material if it were available 'legitimately.' I have purchased as much Features merchandise as I possibly can: both of the currently available releases and a t-shirt. If there were something else I could buy to support the band, I would. Cookies?

Myplay.com offers a 'music locker' with 3GB of free MP3 storage at www.myplay.com. I have set up an account (userid=featuresfan@hotmail.com; password=bumblebee). I have uploaded everything I already have. If anyone has mp3s they wish to share, could you upload them, pretty please?

This could provide a centralized place for us to share other music as well! For example, I have never heard Self and can't find their record. You guys have probably never heard Lexington pop geniuses Pontius CoPilot or Birddog.

I have already scoured audiogalaxy. I have been stymied by the following:

1. Poor quality conversions
2. Much material not available
3. Tracks from an older, hardcore band called 'The Features' mixed in with The Features' songs
4. Songs misattributed to 'The Ventures' (!)
5. Nobody on audiogalaxy can spell or correctly complete an id3 tag, evidently.

Please let me know what you think, and check out www.myplay.com.

That's really strange, because I entered the right user id and password, and it all works as of this morning.  Maybe try again later?  I don't know.   We could also try setting up a Yahoo! group for filesharing purposes, but I think their disk quota is a whole lot less than 3GB.

Maybe the site also verifies you by IP address. Have you tried accessing it from different computers? (This is just a wild idea.)

Yeah, my wife and I use this to trade mp3s with eachother all the time, when we're supposed to be working. That's why I don't get it. Perhaps only one user can be logged in at once? I 'logged out' just to be on the safe side.

OK, I just checked at 2:20, and got an error message stating that the myplay.com system is 'very busy right now. Please try again later.' Perhaps this is what was causing problems earlier? I swear this thing works...

ok, i just finished adding all the studio stuff i have which hadn't already been uploaded... the version of rabbit march was transfered from my record player so the quality isn't perfect (it's a little lacking on the low end), sorry about that. also, the reason i only added one and a half minutes of 'oh my love' is cause that's all i've got... anybody got the whole thing?

I can't either. It doesn't like my password. Is there any way to download songs stored on the locker (not change the locker's content) without having to sign in under the account name?

I just posted Jurley as well as the full version of Oh My Love at the myplay account.  Is anyone still having trouble getting in?

I'm gonna flip out because this is totally sweet! I was finally able to get in and grab some stuff.

Incidentally, the first four tracks under '(unknown origin)' came from 'Soaking in the Center of the Universe, Volumes 1 & 2.'

I still can't get in. Does anything need to be capitalized or something like that?
I TOTALLY AGREE!

I was unable to get in before today. I was copying and pasting the username and password from khautala's first post to the web site. When I tried it today, I actually typed in the credentials (instead of copying and pasting). I was then able to get in. It could just be a coincidence, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Strangely, I did the opposite of what you suggested and I finally got in.

I was downloading away and that came up, and so I guess that's done unless you can fix it somehow.

The only thing I changed once I finally got in was that I made sure I was logged off this board. Then I got in, no problem.

I was also going to correct much of the info you have as it needs some doctoring. Then I was going to give you the hook-up on live stuff. That version of Jurley makes me cringe compared to how they play it live!

i'm guessing it was because we violated the rule about only one person having the password; but it was a good idea anyway, thanks khautala.  anybody know of any other free drive-type sites?

I wouldn't mind setting up a web site somewhere that would let you guys download some Features MP3s.  The only question is:  Do we need another Features web site, or is this one sufficient?

Well, crap. I didn't get to see the new stuff. But it was a fine idea... I have set up an FTP server (temporarily) at 128.163.59.150. Please see posting under new topic heading 'FTP MP3s.' Thanks.
