Okay, I finally finished listening to the whole thing and I'm even more excited. Yes, they didn't talk much about The Features'
music per se, but they did play a generous amount of song clips (which is especially good when you consider they only have the EP to draw from). Matt was quoted heavily during the "southern small-town lifestyle" segment, which is really cool. (Does anyone else find it eerie to hear so many words coming out of Matt's mouth in one breath?)
I think it's funny how the show went out of its way to define a "southern sound" because it's a concept that I personally have never really considered. Did people in Seattle really think about "grunge" in the early 90s? Did people in Detroit think about "garage rock" 5 years ago? Maybe not. It's also funny that they had what I consider to be 3 very musically diverse bands as examples of this new breed of "southern rock". I don't fault them one bit for using the term, but I'm still having a hard time coming up with a true definition that incorporates Kings of Leon, My Morning Jacket, and our beloved Features.
Still, an excellent, informative documentary!
