TOPIC: Features on the Radio
Posted  Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 9:12 AM
Post 1 of 81
I got a text message this morning from a friend of mine who has a show on his campus radio station, telling me that "The Way it's Meant to Be" is on the official playlist.

Bailrigg FM in Lancaster

I don't think the page is updated very often, but I'm sure there's a playlist somewhere.
That's so NA.

It's the first single. Someway, Somehow is the b-side.

Y'all might already know that. I just haven't been around lately.

I heard TTWIMTB was probably going to be the first UK single. Unfortunately, a much lesser song is rumored to be the first US single.

If what you say is true, this is the best decision The Features have ever and probably will ever make. I assume this decision was based entirely on the fact that these are my two favorite songs.

Oh, for Daigle's sake, no no no. I praise the Almighty's decision to release TTWIMTB as a first single in the UK. When I said it was best decision they will ever make, I meant it's hard to imagine a more perfect decision.

On the other hand, if they're forced to release that other song as the US single, it will be unfortunate.

Yeah, I know, but even if the CD will likely never be available from said local band? I mean, I'd send a donation to the Fund to make the Features Famous in the same amount if you're worried about denying them the fruits of their labor.

Fierce Panda newspost about The Features coming to the UK. It also states that TWIMTB is going to be their second single (presumably a public release like The Beginning) and mentions a couple stations it's being played on.

I'm so excited to hear these new recordings. They now seem so near...

speaking of which, is there really nothing to announce? No single plans or release dates that have been solidified? I'm flabergasted... it just feels like such a drought lately...

Self, on the other hand, has kept me warm with b-sides, but also no definite news about release.

Alas,

I see UK imports at the disc exchange all the time, and they're usually easy to order. I'd say after the Features ball gets rolling and more people are into them, the promos shouldn't be hard to find.

You are officially no longer my friend. I had that cd from day one and now somebody has taken my $27 bid to $30. I really didn't think it would go that high at all. I am officially out of that race.

Edit: I am tempted to buy it per Lauren's generous offer, but like Alan said, it shouldn't be hard to find after a while. Though, it is the first such cd to ever be on the open market...and that might be worth it. It's got a few days left, so I'll wait and see what happens. If I do win this, I will do so in the name of the messageboard.

ok, well I'm offically out of the race now... And with a sigh of relief. I love the Features and all, but I wasn't too thrilled bout paying $35 for a cd I'll hear later, It was really an impulse bid I guess. I'm by no means a "collector" of music and really just wanted to hear a studio version of TTWIMTB.

If its any consolation at all, I still would have bought it at my highest bid, I just wouldn't have been happy about paying that much for 2 songs. . . Thats not to say it wouldn't have been worth it or that I wouldn't have gotten $30 of enjoyment out of the cd. For what its worth, Perhaps in a year or two you might be able to triple your $$$.

PLEASE , I REPEAT PLEASE DO NOT BUY FEATURES CD ON EBAY. the cd for auction is a cdr copy and does not have art work. these cd's were sent out to radio stations and publicty writers. the cd's were made here in nashville and are blank silver face copys.

on the other hand, you could bid very high and not pay but that is up to you.

the single is slated for march 1st in which time you could pay normal price for a cd and art work. sorry but it's really not that far away. also there will be a limited number of vinyl or wax records for sale. i'm really hoping to get one of these myself.

thanks. P

Well, if you're like me, you've just been dying to hear anything from the album sessions. And with the announcement of the single, that's near the top of your list. But the opportunity hasn't presented itself.

Well, it is currently streamable on Lamacq's show. Click here and listen to the stream. It starts at roughly 18:38 .

I dig it da most, and I CANNOT wait for this record based on this recording. They seem to have finally captured it. This likely should be the US single.

Sorry if I'm late with this idea of hearing it, and everyone's already heard it.

Mine was roughly 38th minute and some seconds. As far as the song goes, pretty good...a good deal of studio gloss on Matt's vocals though, didn't recognize his voice immediately. Good song, definitely a potential winner in the UK, but I don't imagine it winning over the American masses...wasn't there word of a different a-side for the US single? Or was that b-side?

anyway, it took some getting used to. But I ended up liking it, even though it didn't really sound like the features. . . Did anyone else notice that they will be showcased in early feb?

I accidentally fast forwarded too far on that show and sean paul was the showcase. It appeared to be an entire set list of his that was being replayed, so hopefully we'll get the same when The Features are showcased. If that holds true, we'll all get to hear one of the UK concerts smile.gif

In the UK, TTWIMTB will be available on CD w/ Someway, Somehow and on vinyl with Buffalohead. In the US, it will be included on the re-release of the Beginning EP. That's the official word reported on this website.

Now I'm wonder if Someway, Somehow and Buffalohead are going to be B-Sides or if they are going to be on the album. I could see the first song being an A-Side moreso than the latter, and from what I remember, there weren't very many songs recorded during the last studio session that could end up as B-sides (maybe 2 or 3 at most).

I also was concerned that having Someway, Somehow as a B-side would mean that it would not make it to the album, but I was told by a reliable source that this wasn't necessarily the case. I will be very upset if it doesn't make it to the album.

I don't believe they've re-recorded Buffalohead-- I think the version on the vinyl B-side will be the same as that on the previously released vinyl on ficticious records. I will not be upset if this one doesn't make it to the album.

There were several songs from the last session that could serve as B-sides. If I'm not mistaken, they recorded somewhere between 16 and 18 songs and were asked to narrow it down to 12 or 14.

The obsessive collector in me only prays that we'll get to hear all 16 or 18 of these.

As for what was recorded, little is known. One "oldie" was said to have been recorded, and I hope that it isn't Circus, just because Circus is all but certain to be on the album and I'd rather the "oldie" be something in addition to Circus. Circus is the song I most want on the album though, don't get me wrong.

I'm kinda hoping the "oldie" is a new Thursday or Armani Suede.

The good news: It's not Circus
The bad news: It's not Thursday or Armani Suede
You people with your insider knowledge...

I'll assume that it is "bad" news in that it simply isn't the songs I'd pulled for and not a bad choice of a song to revisit. I'm really excited to see a new take on any older song, those were just the ones I assumed to be most likely that I'd love to hear.

Will the new generation of Features fans ever know the joy of Thursday?

Not if they don't go to the shows, get their hands on that rare vinyl, or find a site for downloading crappy old stuff.

Look at it this way: his buying the CD on Ebay prevents anyone else from getting it. If they can't get it on Ebay, guess what? They'll have to buy the single from the band when it comes out! We can all rest assured that RD will be buying the real deal when it comes out. The way I see it, someone else is profitting off the music, but hopefully it doesn't affect sales of the CD. Does this make sense?

i am sure. little ones will eat anything that resembles a cookie. My mom has magnets that look like food and my niece and nephew always try to eat them and get frustrated that they aren't real.

Yeah, the events which transpired concerning that first "TTWIMTB" promo single on eBay are already one of the low points of 2004 for me. I got fucked, basically. Oh well, live and learn.

Regarding what Mindy said about the Features not seeing any money from stuff sold on eBay, I would contend that anyone on this MB who pays $5 or $10 or...well, let's just say a lot more than that...for this promo single will definitely buy the "real" single as well when it comes out, so the Features will still get their share of the green in the overall transaction.

Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Yep, I agree. And like I said before, probably most of us would be willing to buy the Features coffee or something so they don't feel swindled.

So the title is "The Way..." not "That's the Way..."?

The official title is The Way It's Meant to Be.. I have been dually noted and chided for That's The Way...

I guess I am really bad about being an "its the principle of the matter" kind of person...I am just mad because someone is trying to make money off of the features promo cd through ebay. Instead of distributing it to as many radio stations as possible, they are selling it for their own profit. I guess that is what irks me. I realize that all of the people on the MB are going to buy everything when it comes out, and want to own every feature thing they can get their hands on. I also realize this has been a very anticipated event and the release seems like forever away, but good things come to those who wait. and it is worth waiting for...trust me! I just wish this promo cd had landed in knoxville because the local stations want some features.

Hadn't realized this simple fact. Good point.

This does, however, demonstrate how nuts some of us are for the band and how desperate we are to hear new stuff, of any sort, from them.

Well then Rory and Meeks are on a goldmine then... cuz I watched Rory burn a half dozen of those!!! Seriously folks. I don't know how rare thiose will ever be because they would be so easy to fake. Again not to taunt you, but I think I used a similiar disk of the Krampf sessions from Summer 2002 as a coaster all last year...

Alright, this guy clearly has tons of Features shit. I know where he lives and I'm breaking into his house tonight. Who's with me!?! We can meet at IHOP and wait until he goes to sleep. He's old, so I assume it'll be around 10pm.
