TOPIC: Interactive Discography Update
Posted  Sunday, April 6, 2003 at 5:29 PM

Hey everyone, the lyrics page is up now... not that it was too essential since there is a lyrics arvchive on the mb and that is where I got many of the lyrics I included. However, this is at least easier to navigate, and it gave me the opportunity to do a "sun-shirt" style title graphic. Up next, album pages, followed by a band page, and then I don't know if there's anything else that I can add. Ideas?

In any case, lemme know what you think about the lyrics page. Access it by using the lyrics page link under the title graphic or by clicking on the song whose lyrics you want.

As you can tell by looking at the page, plenty of songs still need translating, and my translations of Discotheque, Stagecoach, and others could be rather faulty...

Anyhow visit The Features Interactive Discography.

Will

If I remember Roger telling me correctly, the 48 song is "New Song #48" and the lyrics aren't "immature passage" but "immature bastards". I'll double check with him next time I see him.

Hmmm... A different member of the band told me it was "48"... but I definitely can see it being "immature bastards." And perhaps it is "New Song #48", which brings up a whole question of The Features numbering their songs that, frankly, terrifies me.

Cool. That's like DMB does with their songs!

Rivers numbers Weezer's songs and keep them in an excel spreadsheet. It just adds a new level of geekiness...

The lyrics to Christmas: just take Thursday and replace all the "Thursday"s with the word Christmas.

Christmas is the only day that I've been looking forward to...

Oh I'm well aware of both Weezer and DMB's numbering... its the sort of info I'd feel compelled to have on the discography site and that I'd be unable to get ahold of, which is why it terrifies me...

100% understood. When I save Weezer songs on my computer, if they have a number I usually include it in the title. For some reason, I feel compelled to know that info.

And DMB numbers their songs? *sigh* I just hate them.

I'd say that a new song called "New Song #48", or "48" for the reason of being a new song without a title, would actually be a statement of how the band writes so many songs that don't make it into a regular rotation. None of them strike me as the type of people to use spread sheets and actually number the tunes they write. Yes, Will, there are many songs that they have written that are not documented on your site (probably more than 48, truth be told), but I don't think the Features would catalog them.

I was looking at the Stagecoach lyrics and it sounded nothing like what I was listening to. I know they change the lyrics often, but these were way off.

They probably are way off. I used the Rawlings Session recording because I couldn't find my copy of the 12th and Porter show where it was played.

I believe it was a randomly picked number, and not necessarily the 48th song they had written at that point.

Yeah, I'd assumed it was, at the very least, not their 48th song.

That's too bad. I think Dave Matthews has written some amazing songs. In fact, one of my favorites is called "41" (or maybe it's "42").

sunny day real estate has a song called "48" too.

i saw this 4-yr-old pianist kid on "america's most talented kid" who composes his own pieces and names them after what time it is. (i.e, "the 5:30 song.")

instrumental bands always come up with really long song titles...what's up with that?

I think I just hate the "Frat Hippie" culture that has now become so mixed in with the DMB. Back in the day I enjoyed "What Would You Say?" (just like my Mom and the rest of the USofA) and even owned "Crash." But I started to doubt them when "Don't Drink The Water" came out and then it all went downhill with "I Did It."

But I really hate "Frat Hippies."

Their lead-off singles almost always consistently suck. Like I said, they have some great songs, but I've never thought any of their albums have been consistent enough to buy. I made a "greatest hits" CD from their first 3 or 4 albums and I'm happy with that.

I hate "Frat Hippies" too, but I try hard to disassociate that with a band's music. In some cases I've done so sucessfully (Pearl Jam), but in others I find it impossible (Phish).

Good for you, Carl. That's a rated M for Mature thing to do.

I love the Dave Matthews Band. Yeah, they have some bad songs (basically all of Everyday), but the great songs far outweigh the bad, in my opinion. I especially like "the Lillywhite Sessions."

I would like to see the songs by the album instead of just in a big list.

And, does anyone have a copy of the "Pants Getting Tighter" song? I really want to hear it again.

I would hope so, for how familiar some of ya'll seem to be with it. If not, do you take Ginkgo Biloba? I was stone cold sober that night and I couldn't pick that song out of a line-up to save my life. I don't remember it a bit, other than it was really short.

I can appreciate DMB, I don't htink I'd go to a concert, but I was given like 4 or 5 of their cd's and i pop them in every now in then for a change, I like the variety they have in there songs.
