TOPIC: is there an official taping policy?

the features have been my favorite band since the ep, and i've been through various stages of sadness and anger at them in the times between...i'm sure that's a familiar sentiment to some of you. anyway, outside the features, my musical interests lay primarily with bands that allow audience taping (nm allstars, robert randolph, etc). i've got several friends who tape and i know a ton of kids who love hearing good music. any chance of spreading the features through bit torrent downloads or any of the other methods that are used by the other fan bases? this is mostly a shot in the dark anyway since memphis and the features seem to be incompatible...but it's worth a shot, right?

The Features do allow taping. As far as distributing recorded live shows on the internet, I'm not sure about the policy on that.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I don't know the policy either. But I know that you can download a bunch of live Features songs here.

BrianW or Michael have always said that it's OK to distribute shows freely. The Features only ask to not freely share tracks that are currently for sale (the Beginning EP, Buffalo Head single, etc)

anodyne's idea of using Bit Torrent to distribute shows is interesting. Is anyone here using that software? Would you be willing to install it if it meant that every morning when you woke up, you'd have a new Features show on your hard drive?

Blightman is down with the bit torrent. It does require a great deal of space on your computer, though. He has recorded many Features shows and may be interested in putting some up. I'll tell him to ressurect from the dead as I briefly have, and come check the board.

yes, memphis is a shot in the dark. however, if we say it enough, perhaps we could generate interest...they are compatible...memphis offers so much more than blues...it's just marketing...moog rock has a place here...but currently it's a void waiting to be filled.
It's all about taking the easy way out for you, I suppose.

It's probably more of an oversight than it is there not being a fanbase. I know we have more from Memphis posting here than we do from Knoxville, don't we??

The website is really not visited by many outside of nashville, I've always thought. The Chattanooga shows always attracted the same crowd, but none of them seem to post here.

This thread quickly moved from this idea of using Bit Torrent, an idea which I really like!! Well...any word or any thoughts? I know at one point a tape tree was almost started, and the mp3 site isn't worth much, but how about trying this??

Anyone??

Anyone?

I think saying that the mp3 site "isn't worth much" is a gross misevaluation of what is actually there.

That said, I'd enjoy anything that brought me more shows.

What seems to be overlooked is that everybody knows the Features love smack and hoes. Memphis and the Features seem like an obvious fit, like Richard Pryor and coke.
