Republic/Universal Records has set a July 22 release date for "American Wedding -- Music From the Motion Picture," a soundtrack companion to the third movie in Universal's "American Pie" series. The film is set to open Aug. 1 in U.S. theaters.

The soundtrack features previously unreleased contributions from Avril Lavigne ("I Don't Give"), the Wallflowers ("Into the Mystic"), and New Found Glory ("Forget Everything"). Songs from Foo Fighters, Good Charlotte, Joseph Arthur, the All-American Rejects, Sum 41, and Sugarcult are also included.

The first single from "American Wedding" will be Matt Nathanson's cover of James' early 1990s hit "Laid." Nathanson's Universal full-length debut is due later this year. Labelmates NU and the Working Title are also making their recording bows on the new soundtrack; albums by both are also due sometime in 2003.

Here is the track listing to the "American Wedding" soundtrack:

"Times Like These," Foo Fighters
"Anthem," Good Charlotte
"Forget Everything," New Found Glory
"The Hell Song," Sum 41
"Swing Swing," the All-American Rejects
"I Don't Give," Avril Lavigne
"Laid," Matt Nathanson
"The Art of Losing," American Hi-Fi
"Fever for the Flava," Hot Action Cop
"Give Up the Grudge," Gob
"Bouncing Off the Walls," Sugarcult
"Come Back Around," Feeder
"Any Other Girl," NU
"Beloved," the Working Title
"Calling You," Blue October
"Honey & the Moon," Joseph Arthur
"Into the Mystic," the Wallflowers

Well, it's too bad that they aren't on the playlist with such quality acts as Hot Action Cop and Avril Lavigne.

I have mixed feelings about whether this is really a bad thing, but I do regret they won't get the exposure. Maybe there is even better news in store, though...that will get leaked here and we can also jinx!

It's a problem with the music industry in general. I'm not sure if it's dishonesty or miscommunication, but up-and-coming bands always seem to believe the record company will do something but it rarely seems to happen. That's why I've always said that I never believe a band has been signed until I can buy their CD at Best Buy.

It's definitely not a bad thing that they are not linked to a cover of "Laid."

As excited as we are about all that's been going on with the Features, we should remember that there is a chance that an album won't get released. That's why TF and Matt Pelham won't be happy until the album is available everywhere.

I agree. What has Billboard ever done for the common man? But seriously, the song could still be in the movie, but not make it to the soundtrack CD. For this reason I will probably go see it, which proves just how much I love this band.

Geometry is the beautiful math... its the only math I use everyday... I could go on and on... I think I'm a bit sick actually... I have this obsessive need to "triangulate" everything. I'll look at an object and immediately look for all of the triangles that form it. So yes, Pi Fornication in one sweet ass band name.

I would rather take 3 english classes rather than 1 math class.

I always liked algebra better than geometry. I don't really like math all that much, but I took 5 math classes in high school just so I could get all those honors gpa points. I clepped out of all math in college and haven't taken a math class since.

This is funny because I had a nightmare about a math test last night. I had no idea how to do any of it and just cried through the whole exam. sad.gif

If these ladies are correct and the Features are somehow involved with the movie, I think we should all get together and see it. We could have "Features Message Board Members Nite at the Movies." (My clever spelling of nite makes the event much more marketable.) I would propose that we go to the Thoroughbred 20 in Franklin because it's close to me and it's the second-greatest theatre in Middle Tennessee. However, if another cinema would be more convenient for the majority of people, we could go there instead. Any thoughts?

By the way, math literally rules my world (and, for that matter, the entire universe). I like geometry, and my fornicating always involves the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

There may also be a change from this official announcement as well. Since the recordings aren't mixed and mastered (or last we heard, they weren'y), they may have been omitted for that reason.

I still hope they're not on it.

I can think of 10 movies I'd rather see as a message board outing than American Wedding, but oh well. I'd probably show up.

Well, perhaps ships will sink as a result of this but I don't care... the band thought, at least from what sporadic communication I've had with them during recordings, that this was a done deal and that they would not be covering Laid, but using an original. It was only in the last week or so that "something" happened, I don't know what, and they began doubting it.

I really don't get this industry, or at least this band's luck with it. It's frustrating but you hope, somehow, that in the end it's all for the best.

well, i guess no Message Board NITE at The Movies sad.gif (Although props to TF for his excellent planning) I've shared this with a few others, but this news really pissed me off... Universal backing out of the soundtrack will be forgivable only if they don't continue to back out of other things. I now understand why the info was witheld to begin with.
