I've seen them together twice in Nashville-- once at 12th and Porter w/Be Your Own Pet last fall and more recently at Exit/In on April 1st of this year. I realize that I'm biased, but I honestly think The Features blew them off the stage. KOL just seem to lack the energy their music is well-suited for. I like the swagger and laid-back feel of the singles I've heard, but I just fond their performance uninspiring. It's really too bad, because I really wanted to like them. They've done a lot for The Features and I'm still proud that they're opening avenues of exposure for Tennesee bands.

I just hope that The Features get their big photo shoot in Rolling Stone soon so the masses feel more comfortable rocking out to them at the shows.

"carligula" can say that, but "CarlW" surely cannot. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

I agree with "carligula," though. From all that I've heard, the Kings are really great guys, and I love that they've done so much for the Features. But I still think the Features are much better, musically speaking.

You got that right! biggrin.gif

When given the option of bequeathing moderator power to "carligula" or establishing a new moderator account, I went with the latter. I try my best when making posts as a moderator to be completely objective and nice. As a liason between the band/management and this forum, I think that's important.

I'm still an extremely opinionated jerk, however, and it's also important to me to be able to continue posting my honest thoughts like I have for the past 3 years.

I first saw the features @ Backpool Empress Ballroom, in December last year, they played a brillint set. I wasn`t sure if it was because i was up for seeing the kings of leon so much that the worst band in he world would have sounded decent ???
i soon got my ass into gear after buying Exhibit A in April..... what a classic quirky feel good album,
on there latest tour i have been fortunate enough to catch them 3 times, i am a huge K.O.L fan but i just couldn`t choose between them......

i just can`t wait to see the support band for the features on there world tour
any doubters ?????? download "thursday" from this site

They have a pretty good record of selecting good openers for their local shows. I can only hope they take a cue from KOL and bring along some fellow Tenneseans when it's time to tour. I could definitely imagine them touring with De Novo Dahl or The Privates, for example.

Ive seen them together twice now - last night at Reading.
They did another good job - slipping in a couple of new tracks called Foundation Crapt and Gateway To Hell - the latter sounded very good!
I was however, very annoyed with KOL - they seem a bit of moody bunch live - twice now ive seen them and both times they said virtually nothing to the crowd. Also last night, they got very angry with the crowd for little reason and proceeded to taunt the crowd and smash there stuff up in a fit of rage - throwing stuff at the crowd, at the end! :s
The Features need to get with some new tour buddies!

This sounds very different to when KOL played at Glasgow. They talked quite a few times to the crowd, I had no idea what he was saying but anyway.. The only thing I saw them throw into the crowd were plectrums and he had about 50 of them both nights. Caleb also knocked over the mic at the end of both nghts (before the encore).

Well KOL's only words were:
- During the middle of their set: "You guys rock like London" and the crowd cheered and then said "No thats a bad thing" and the crowd booed a bit and went silent!
- And came back on for encore after shouting for encore from crowd and said "I really didnt think you guys had it in you"
They just seemed to be really off with the crowd which is quite understandable given the type of crowd they pull in!
Lol and yes the features need new tour buddies who can take them to a different fanbase!

I would say that, on average, KOL fans have been particularly receptive to our boys from Sparta. We've seen a record number of new fans signing up for the messageboard and Myspace profile lately-- most of which are saying they were only vaguely familiar with them before they went to see KOL. Of course, when you play for thousands of people, you're likely to get a few more converts than playing local shows for a hundred people or so. Whether or not we care for their music, KOL continue to do great things for The Features.

I agree they need to broaden their fanbase, though. For example, I'm sure there's lots of 12-16 year-old girls all over the globe who have yet to discover how dreamy Rollum is.

The kings of Leon do tend to seem a "moody" band on stage.....but i pay my money to watch a class act not a bunch of stand up comedians.... wouldn`t you be moody playing the same track list 29 times in just a little over 6 months but ths website isn`t about the K.O.L........

The features still seem to have the appreciation of a new, fresh up and coming band..... after the last gig (with K.O.L) they seemed generally moved by the standing ovation that they recieved from the crowd.....like it was all new. I coud tell by the way they hung around on stage and soaked it up
All they need is ONE single to catapult them, with "the way it`s mean't to be" on it's way lets keep out fingers crossed

I'm confused. Were people sitting down during the show? I was under the impression that they were playing gigs at standing-room-only type of venues.

As far as being "moody" goes, I think being able to keep up the energy despite the fact that you're playing the same stuff every single night is what sets the good bands apart from the great bands. Then again, I'm no where near being qualified to know what it's like to tour like that.

Yes i agree that touring with KOL has been great for the features...they have im sure increased loads in additions on here and myspace as well as album sales etc. All i was suggesting was that because of the nature of the KOL crowd - it maybe best to try find a new band to tour with that tap into the different sort of crowd!
I personally would not be moody on stage playing the same stuff over again - i would be proud to be playing in front of such a crowd etc. i dont think i would have a negative attitude playing the same stuff!
As for waiting for people to tap into Rollum's dreaminess...he needs to make more effort! He is the laziest member of the band! Everytime ive spoken to him etc. he is always sitting down lazing about and generally doing nothing! If he had the energy of Matt (who even comes and greets me everytime im helping them etc.) then im sure the market would already be tapped in!

Yeah im not saying about when he drums! He puts loads of effort into his drumming and he is very impressive! It is very good when he does his little jumpey thing while playing the drums!
I was just saying that every other time i see him, he is sitting down - generally slouched on a chair!

about kol being moody at the reading gig....

I wasn't there (cause I live in the U.S.) but I had friends that were there, and I heard really bad things about that show. all of it having to do with how disgusting and awful the crowd was (which might explain why kol was dissapointed). apparently half of the people there didn't even know any of their music and clearly weren't there to hear them play, and spent the whole time starting fights and throwing crap on stage. the people I know who went said they kept getting hit really hard, and having beer thrown in their faces.

that might explain why caleb did the one finger salute as he walked off stage, I mean who could blame him? they're there to play, and the people who were there to listen couldn't, just because of a bunch of assholes!
you with your switchblade posse, I'll get my guns from the south, we'll take to the yard like a cockfight, four kicks, who's struttin' now?

Yeh its true the crowd were awful - worst ive ever seen. It cause it was full of 16 year old girls wanting to see KOL (and not worried bout there music) and 30 year old men wanting to get with this 16 year olds :s (and not worried bout there music)
It was a shocking audience but i'd say bout 75% of the crowd were normal and just cause 25% of the crowd were like i said, it doesnt mean KOL should be upset cause the rest of us were singing along and being a very good crowd.
I think they should have thrown more people out of the venue for their behaviour and it might have been sorted. I must mention though that The Features had nothing thrown at them, whereas KOL did - probably because they didnt help the situation by telling the crowd they were rubbish!
p.s it wasnt just a one finger salute at the crowd at the end.... he also lanuched the mike stand in the crowd as hard he could....

The idea of tour buddies reminds me of someone talking about the features possibly supporting the kaiser chiefs. I think that would have given an even bigger boost to the fanbase than the kings of leon. I say this because I feel the fans are a lot more similar. The only reason I can think of for them turning the features down as a suport is because they fancy the cribs so much.

I am a nerd and like to check the amazon rank every once in a while. I checked the amazon.co.uk rank this morning and it was like 1,427 or something and just now it was 417 or so...pretty impressive for one day's time. I don't really know much about how they rank the cds and what are the actual numbers sold, but that sounded like it might be pretty good. I guess everyone you know really has bought the album.

Yeah that was me! I spoke to Matt (Meeks) about it back in April and he seemed to think it was highly possible that they would support the Kaiser Chiefs on an American Tour...but yeh they do love the cribs too much!

About the record sales...i couldnt agree more - they have sold loads of albums at the gigs mainly and after the gigs once they sell out at the gigs! They have done well from KOL's tour!

Is that English slang for being popular with younger people? If so, I would have to disagree with the implication that The Features wouldn't do well with young audiences. They have tons of teenaged fans on their Myspace profile. We all love to think that we couldn't possibly love a band that has appeal to high schoolers, but the fact is, they seem to do really well with that demographic.

Umm.. because cribs are where babies hang out for the first few years of their life? And I'm not talking "cribs" in the "MTV Cribs" sense.

Just to clarify, it wasn't the overall lack of capitalization in your post (like H2I's previous post), but the selective capitalization of Matt (Meeks), April, Kaiser Cheifs, and American Tour.

It's not a big deal, I just mostly wanted to take the opportunity to stir things up by calling The Features a teeny-bopper band biggrin.gif
