We've done one where we had to 'black ball' 5 Features songs that we wished they'd never play again. That was a tough one.

I don't know if I downright hate any of them. Really, all their songs have at least one redeeming quality. Everyone hates "Jurley," but it really is one of my favorite songs. "Treehouse Club" is the song that is so bad, that it circles around to being good again. The ones I skip in my car but love and love hearing live are "Thursday," "Exorcising Demons," and "Kari-Ann." The only one that I slightly groan when hearing live is "33 1/3." I love the subject matter and think they lyrics are great, but the song as a whole doesn't thrill me. It sounds very Cure-ish to me.

I do this as well, Digsy... I think it's because they're great songs to use to "get into" the Features, so I played them out within the first couple of weeks... then it's just a so-so experience for me in the car, but a real treat live. I think it's my fault for listening to them so damn much when I first got them. Everynow and then, though, I play through them, because they're great songs if I don't listen to them every day.

If there were one song that I could stand not listening to again (because I don't think I hate any of them) it would be Bumblebee. I used to love it, but the other songs rock so much more.

Action is the first one that comes to mind. Damage is Done and Serious also come to mind. These songs just don't make me ecstatic like most Features songs.

i'd probably list "action" as well. i'll also second digsy on all those really great songs that i'm not so crazy about listening to anymore. in addition to those, ones that i tend to skip on a cd are "leave it all behind" and "blow it out." i really still like all these songs though. it's hard to pick out a least favorite of anything features-related.

"Bring on the Night" or "The Damage is Done," but even the features worst is better than most! I don't absolutely loathe those songs, but I wouldn't cry if I never heard them again.

"Blow it Out" well...blows. While the subject matter of the song is swell and oft visited by Pelham, the lyrical quality is seriously low; cliched even. I mean lines like "sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down" & "if you're happy and you know it" are frankly childish. Granted, most of his time is spent with two three year old girls, but I know he can do much better than this.
Now I'm usually a fan of doo-doo-doo-doodoo's; but in this case it seems like he just didn't have anything intelligent to say. And maybe that's the problem, the song's lack of smarts. While the music of this band draws most of us in initially, it's the lyrics that really give them a special intelligent quality that is lacking in so much music today.

I also agree w/ Jamie on "Growing Old". I used to really like this one due to the Motown-ish nature of the music (much like "Someway, Somehow"). But since the guitar part in the pre-chorus changed (it seems to no longer do that rhythmic call-and-response thing with the vocals) I don't much care for it.

"Action" will always own me...the change into the bridge on "Jurley" is a glorious moment..."Damage is Done" is a gem..."Thursday" and "Kari-Ann" still bore me and are used as opportunities to piss or go on a beer run for me and Mike D.

Y'know I could really use a Features show today. It's been too long. I don't think I've seen them since Red Rose.
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

Good God, I can't believe the obvious hasn't been stated: 2 By 2. There are a few Features songs that don't really excite me, but this is the only one I can think of that I flat out dislike. I like Treehouse Club, which everyone else has been down on. I agree with a lot of what Lawnwrangler had to say, particulary that guitar thing that I thought I was the only one that noticed. Oh, and I have to also agree with Roadie about Action and Serious. They are a couple of my favorites too, particularly the former.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

I hope everyone realizes that if any of the band members read this they might get the impression that this song or that song really sucks and shouldn't be performed anymore. I am a relatively new fan (having been introduced to their music at the beginning of the year) but I've listened to most of their catalog and can't really honestly say any of their songs totally suck balls. "Treehouse Club" is kind of high school campy but it still has redeeming qualities. "Jurley" is listenable. I don't understand the criticisms against 33 1/3. This is one of my personal favorites. The lyrics are brilliant and as a huge fan of vinyl I can totally emphatize with the sentiments expressed by the song regarding the medium (although I think vinyl has made a huge resurgence over the last five years but that is neither here nor there). The Mahaffey sessions version is brilliant. I guess I just don't see this discussion thread as being very positive or productive.

Thank you for being so sensitive to the feelings of the band, but I don't think anyone's really trying to trash the Features or their songs. We're just stating our preferences. But heaven forbid that we should like one song less than another, right?

I don't think that the Features would be offended if they read this thread. They have least favorite songs of their favorite bands, too, I betcha. And for every one song that someone here says that they dislike, there are 49 songs that they love.

I disagree. 99% of the Features-related content on this board consisits of verbal-felatio. I think some criticism here and there, especially coming from their "core audience," can be very productive. It also makes for interesting conversation.

ok, ive gotta say that my least favorite is jurley. its not because its childish or anything, musically, it just. sucks. sorry guys. i like treehouse club. its fun.
i don't know what moron voted for extension chord. i fucking love that song.
as for 33 1/3 i used to love it. i don't like it now ONLY becasue it reminds me of a shitty time in my life, but i think its a good song.
2 x 2 is good becasue its different from most features songs. the lyrics are sweet and musically its really good.
bumblebee has its merit. its a cute little song but lyrically ive never been a fan.

Correct you are. It was played May 2nd, 2003. There have been like two or three shows since then, I think (not counting the British shows). I would say this one is far from entirely "dead". For the record, I think this is a great occasional song.

I think "33 1/3" has gone the way of "Paid to Think." In late 2001/early 2002, "Paid to Think" was still being played once in a while as a rare treat. Then they played it on May 2, 2002, and that was it. I think the exact thing happened to "33 1/3" a year later.

I hate the constant hatin' on 33 1/3, but I really can't stand to see any Features song called "horrid, horrid." Do you really actively dislike the song, or are you like many of us, liking it less than others?

Mine is Damage Is Done.

At live shows, I dislike anything that is not peppy, ie - 33 1/3, Idea of Growing Old, Someway Somehow, Leave It All Behind, Two By Two. I like these songs fine when I'm not at a show, but I just don't enjoy their slow pace.

Exhibit A is starting to grow on me, but I didn't like it for the longest time.

I don't give a fuck about hearing Armani Suede anymore or anything off the first ep for that matter.

I think that's about it.

Dude, Leave It All Behind is totally peppy. It even has the That Thing You Do beat on the chorus.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

I think my least favorite is Oh My Love. I'm also not a huge fan of Rabbit March.
I agree with "Oh my Love." Rabbit March is a fitting B-Side but you know, it's one of those "fucking around" songs. Not very deep.

33 1/3
33 1/3 isn't a bad song. I like the Mahaffey version but agree that it is a bit weak live.

I can live without hearing 33 1/3 an Kari Ann for a while, I wouldn't mind hearing Temporary Blues even though it's not the most crowd envoking song. I would love to hear the Design more too! I like Treehouse Club an wouldn't mind hearing it at a show in the near near future:)
I think Treehouse Club is probably the most retarded Features song ever written. It's too high school. You'd expect to see it opening up a children's TV show full of people in animal costumes....but not the cool vintage animal costumes you'd see at a Flaming Lips show.

Ironically, my love for 33 1/3 is borne out of the few times I've caught it live. I find it to have 10 times the energy it has on record when it is played live. Oh well. To each his own.

I never said 33 1/3 is a bad song, it's just my least favorite Features song...it definitely has its moments ("seems my girlfriend loves my LPs more than she loves me....") but the song as a whole doesn't seem to "gel" like other Features songs...you know...it like doesn't....fit....but...oh, fuck it.

I don't have a least favorite....I don't care for "Blow It Out" that much. Or "Armani Suede." "Two by Two" kind of bores me live.
That's so NA.

i couldnt agree with the "two by two" boring statement any more. it just seems to be the never-ending-soooong (aaaaahhhh). plus its a little too flower-power for me.

although i really do love both "blow it out" and "armani suede."
Eh.
