"Blow it Out" well...blows. While the subject matter of the song is swell and oft visited by Pelham, the lyrical quality is seriously low; cliched even. I mean lines like "sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down" & "if you're happy and you know it" are frankly childish. Granted, most of his time is spent with two three year old girls, but I know he can do much better than this.
Now I'm usually a fan of doo-doo-doo-doodoo's; but in this case it seems like he just didn't have anything intelligent to say. And maybe that's the problem, the song's lack of smarts. While the music of this band draws most of us in initially, it's the lyrics that really give them a special intelligent quality that is lacking in so much music today.
I also agree w/ Jamie on "Growing Old". I used to really like this one due to the Motown-ish nature of the music (much like "Someway, Somehow"). But since the guitar part in the pre-chorus changed (it seems to no longer do that rhythmic call-and-response thing with the vocals) I don't much care for it.
"Action" will always own me...the change into the bridge on "Jurley" is a glorious moment..."Damage is Done" is a gem..."Thursday" and "Kari-Ann" still bore me and are used as opportunities to piss or go on a beer run for me and Mike D.
Y'know I could really use a Features show today. It's been too long. I don't think I've seen them since Red Rose.
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.
