what a shame that when you link to your webpage an n'sync pop-up ad comes up.

Most of it isn't really copyrighted, is it? I'm no expert on the law, but there has been no official release on the Mahaffey sessions and some other stuff.

I know there is no policy for trading live stuff, but I've wondered how they'd feel about their guarded unreleased stuff since things like the Mahaffey recordings were not released for a reason.

Sorry about the pop ups.....i claim to be no webpage expert. Just play for fun. As far as the copyrights, Anything with some creativity, fixed in a tangible medium of expression, is copyright protected, But.....most of the songs have not been published (transfer of ownership through sale etc.) so im not sure what the copyright issues are. If anyone has anything, let me know. Im currently taking copyright law at MTSU, but its still very shady to me. I will be more than happy to take down any MP3's at the request of the band!

Nathan

As Mark Spencer76 pointed out, anything 'fixed in a tangible medium' (in this case mp3 audio files) is copyright protected, so muthafuckas don't try to be stealin' P's songs 'an shit, k?  However, to get the full protection of the law, one must register copyrighted materials with the Library of Congress using Form RA (to copyright the song) and/or Form SA (to copyright the recording itself).  This usually gets taken care of when a record is going to be released, so probably Spongebath took care of it for the older songs.  Then again, I don't know, it does cost $35 PER SONG...

In all seriousness, I see no problem (unless the band feels otherwise) with swapping files that are a) out of print material, cool.gif live material, or c) other unreleased material that the band has no plans to release in the future.  I do think that it is a big no-no to swap files of material that is currently for sale by the band.  This would include anything that is on 'The Beginning' EP or the 'Thursday' 10' single (Hint, hint).

I also think that by now, Rory or Michael or someone would have said something.

Speaking of Michael, is he still around? At the top of the board, there's a request for a new webmaster (about which no one has commented). Has Michael left to pursue other projects, or does he just want another set of hands to help out?

P.S. We've surpassed 2,000 posts on this board. Now we can have our free pizza party at Showbiz.

I ate at the CiCi's in Murfreesboro a few weeks ago. In honor of brianeno2, I ate chocolate pizza until I went blind.

I know all the talk around here is about cici's but I think ol' Tom has a decent idea. Why? because Showbiz has games!

They also have killer robots that sing. Also, I think Looney Bird is a crack addict.

Not so fast there about the singing robots.  They USED to have singing robots.  Sadly, I have been informed that the robots have been replaced by video screens showing cartoons of what used to be 'the show'.  Is nothing sacred?

Check out this web page:

http://www.robotsandgames.com/page5.html

The company that created the Rock-a-Fire Explosion (the robot band from Showbiz) still has some complete, brand new sets in stock. If we can pool our money together and come up with $80,000, we could have our very own Rock-a-Fire!!! We could set it up at The Boro and program them to perform Features songs all day! The hardest part will be programming Billy Bob to jump off of the amps like Matt does.

P.S. If you're really feeling nostalgic, there are some streaming videos of the band performing!

Tommy, that is a GREAT idea! If only it didn't cost so much! How cool would it be to have the Showbiz band programmed to play Features songs?!! I think we could program a robot to do that thing that Matt does with his eyes during 'Exorcising Demons'.

For $80K you could probably book the Features for a year's worth of private gigs...

Perhaps... but robots won't drink all of your beer and they will play 'Your Smile' every time you request it. Those pesky human band members get tired of playing the same song over and over.

Do we even have Showbiz anymore or is it Chuck E. Cheese? It seems like they rotate every five years or so. Which one had the Bozo The Clown game where you throw the ping pong balls into the buckets? Whichever one had that game is better. Also, I remember being carded to get into Showbiz once. Apparently you have to be 18+ or with someone 18+ to get in there. How fucked up is that? Then again, if we are going to program the robots to do Features songs at Showbiz, the under 18ers still won't be able to get in, so I guess that's a good thing smile.gif
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

I think a franchise should start from this thread...

Robotic versions of The Features, a pizza buffet (a la CiCi's), skee ball, 18+, Tom Foolery cleaning up the vomit...

the profits would be endless...

Blightman, you are in too deep if you're into etree. Too much time, too much space on the computer. I'd rather B+P or trade any day.

"Quote from the etree.org website"
'You can find nearly every band that allows taping in the jambands community on etree.org, including Phish, The Grateful Dead...'

blightman, don't you know that talking about jambands (or websites that support them) can get you kicked off of this board?  :-)

Seriously, though, how important is lossless compression when dealing with a live recording from a dive bar with a crappy sound system?  Secondly, do you believe that anyone besides the most hardcore audiophiles can actually tell the difference between a well-encoded MP3 file and the source recording.
