With all the new songs out, I've been thinking a lot lately about the next album. Any guestimates as to when recording could start?

For some reason, I thought I heard something about this fall/winter?

Eh?

Probably not.

Last I heard, they were about to get the green light to record in the fall.

Sounds about right to me.

I still hope they dig back a little bit in their catalouge for their sophmore album. I think it would be hard to top Exhibit A if the strongest tracks will be Mosis Ptosis, Arcata, and Hold You Alone.

Yeah, you're the one who told me.

And I agree about the current songs.

They asked me to produce it, but I'm booked up with bands I like better. Maybe I can work them in for their third album.

They would be crazy not to consider Thursday for the album. It will most likely be more challenging to properly record than pretty much any other song they have, but the new fans (and many of the old) are dying to get a proper recording.

Also, I think See You Thru deserves to be on the album. Although, if I'm not mistaken, it was released as a B-side. I could pretty much say the same for Darkroom or Kari-Anne.

GSRnR is a little too cheesy in my mind. Of course, it worked for Blow it Out.

If they do feel pressure to put Winded, Foundation's Cracked and/or Gates of Hell on the album, I hope they get a sufficient amount of time to really get those songs "finished".

Were you not satisfied with the existing recording of "Thursday"? I always thought it was pretty good and captured the song well enough.

I agree that "See You Through" is an oldie that should make it onto an album. I also have a soft spot for "33 1/3," but since they've retired that one, I doubt they'd record it.

I don't think they could release Kari-Ann or Dark Room as they are bonus tracks on the UK version of Exhibit A

They should feel pressure to put those songs on the album... save "Winded". I'll be pissed if "Foundation's Cracked" isn't on the new one.

As for oldies? Definitely "Serious" and for the slower song "Look Out Below" would be perfect!

It's good to hear recording will begin so soon, would that set us up for another summer/fall release of '06?

That's why it followed my statement about "See You Thru" concerning b-sides and the like.

The second album, as I envision it, would be:

1. Mosis Ptosis
2. Winded
3. Arcata
4. Foundation's Cracked
5. UNTITLED II
6. Love is Golden
7. Temporary Blues
8. The Gates Of Hell
9. Hold (You Alone)
10. Serious
11. The Damage Is Done

I've listened to this multiple times and it, for me, tops "Exhibit A." Of course only 7 of those songs are in rotation. What happened to "Contrast"? That was a great song.

I'd like the Features to dig back into their catalogue a bit. "Serious" and "Temporary Blues" easily fit in with the more rhythmic songs they're doing now ("Arcata" and "Winded"). Some songs may even make their debut on album two. That'd be weird.

And I don't really want "Thursday" on the album. I like keeping "Thursday" a live favorite. Maybe the best live recording (RichardDawson's November 8th, 2003 being my fave recording) as a b-side?

With the current batch of songs, album two is definitely not going to be a retread of "Exhibit A."

yes I read your post and I am aware of you following up from what you said about See You Thru but still, wouldn't it be a bit silly if your sequel album had tracks from the previous album?

I agree. I'd buy an album of just various mixes of Foundation's Cracked. Actually, that's a lie.

As for older songs my two favorites were always Oh My Love and Serious, so I would love to see those. Of course, I like every Features song, except Jurley, so I'd be easy to please.

I'd like to see the album have all newer material, but perhaps with some of the older stuff recorded for b-sides.

Oh My Love and Serious were the two b-sides of the UK single for Blow It Out, so I'd doubt they'd appear on the next album apart from as bonuses.

Yeah, I noticed that a couple of days after making that post. One thing's for sure...the Features are going to have one hell of a b-side collection.

Yeah that is true, but I was kind of disappointed when they used material from the Beginning as b-sides for their first few UK singles.

Were you disappointed because you wanted material you didn't have already or because you didn't like the Beginning EP being treated like throwaway tracks?

I guess I was mainly just hoping for some new material, as I was a new fan of the band and wanted to get hold of as many tracks as possible.

I could understand using songs from 'The Beginning' as B-Sides if it was an out of print cd, but I think because of the fact it's freely available, it was a bit cheeky to re-use tracks like '2x2' and 'Walk You Home'.

Yeah, I agree, as well. Really silly when you consider those were the fourth time those tracks were released (if you count all of the flavors of the Beginning). It really sucks when you consider all of the excellent recordings they made with Craig Krampf that haven't been released officially. And since they obviously have no problem using them for b-sides they could've put some more Mahaffey stuff on there. It reminds me of how they keep releasing The Way It's Meant To Be. Sometimes record labels are a bit thick, methinks.

Mosis Ptosis is awesome...but it's pretty far out there compared to the usual Features' "pop" song. I think that's why so many people hate it.
