I'm pretty sure that captain williams is, in fact, rick williams. I'm not positive. Perhaps someone with more authority should let you know for certain.

I remeber that song! I really liked it, but they only played it a few times. Didn't it appear about the same time as 'Stagecoach'?

Yes, 'Captain Williams' is indeed about Mr. Spongebath. It is actually an older song that they have reworked recently.

'Captain Williams used to say, 'Everything's gonna be okay.'

Will we ever know the truth about the demise of Spongebath? Rumors started flying around the old message board before it actually happened. Everyone could sense it was coming, but no one from the label would talk about it. Then the board was taken down. Then the web site was turned off. Then no one would answer the phones...

I went to a Fluid Ounces concert several months ago, and Seth was making lots of jokes about the end of Spongebath (as if it had officially given up the ghost that week). He had lots of their old merchandise to give away at that show. Matt Mahaffey showed up, and Seth said, 'I thought you would be in town.' I really got the impression that there was some sort of meeting to divide up all of the remaining stuff.

Does anyone know the official story?

i've alwasy ben told it was due to lack of promotion and miss management of funds. they were putting money they didnt have into the compoany and nothing was coming out. that whole water to wine thing doesnt really work in the record industry.

atleast thats what i have been told on several occasions

You are getting dangerously close to having the grammar/spelling police called on you.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

Its been mentioned, but maybe Spongebath's demise is a function of not being able to properly support the talent they had, and then deciding to load its roster with subpar bands. They'd been better served to cater to (and put strong attention on) what was once a strong local scene and not sign any canadians. Have we learned nothing from Bryan Adams.

i agree with ceeze. if spongebath would have focused on their original lineup(self,fl.oz.,&the features), something would have happened. i'll double the canadian theory too. they make excellent comedians but they make terrible music.

exceptions to the canada rule are neil young & sloan.

If you llved in Canada you would want to learn to amuse yourself (and in turn other people) too. Plus scientific studies show laughing increases average body temperature. 9 out of 10 doctors recommend a glass of wine and a pie in the face every day.

I'm going to give a shout out to Canada. I've never been one who liked to see our North American neighbor so repeatedly belittled. I'd like to give Canada props for Canada Dry gingerale. And the Canadian flag-a red maple (?) leaf against white. So subtle yet so poignant. So powerfully minimalist in contrast to audacious stars and stripes. I luvvv hockey.

sloan and neil young are exceptions...i hate bryan adams. he played at the beale street festival 2 years ago and cut his set short because people kept throwing water bottles at him.
