TOPIC: Rowdy in the Riverfront

Post 1 of 132
I read The Features are playing with Cake on June 19th. that's a Saturday and it is returning to Riverfront, I believe. This sucks for Keith and I, seeing how we'll be playing at the Sutler at that time........Unless Keith added another band to his resume. Verde Keith. Lifeboy Keith. Private Keith. Rich Creamy Keith. Mostly Keith. Kake Keith?

also this year:

blondie, cypress hill, kanye west, collective soul (and the spin doctors!), live, fuel, bela fleck and the flecktones.

This can only be because I emailed Cake when last they came to the Ryman and told them that they MUST hire the Features to open for them. Yes, I really did that. They got some second-rate act called "Beulah" instead...although the tambourine solo rocked my socks off wink.gif

How am I going to play in both The Features and Rich Creamy Paint in one night?

Hot damn! This is good news. Here's a tip-- get 11 friends to go in with you on buying a package of 12 tix for $50 and you'll be seeing The Features and Cake for less than $5!! Or if you're resourceful, buy 12 tix and sell them outside or to friends for $5 a piece. That leaves 2 free tickets!

Does this mean Ticketmaster gets to rape us for DitD now? I would assume you reduce the fee with the package, right?

that is awesome. my friend is supposed to be getting married in georgia that day, and sadly, i think i'd rather stay and see the features.

speaking of bela fleck, i happened to cut his hair this morning. he's a very very nice man, for those who are wondering.

and yeah, the tambourine and maraca players just made beulah sound amazing that nite, didn't they biggrin.gif that was pretty much the funniest thing ever.

hopefully a factory won't catch on fire when cake plays this year.
right you are, ken!

I'm sure everyone already knows this, but the DITD page can be be found HERE.

I'm very happy it will be returning to the riverfront park. It really sucked in the colliseum's parking lot! The line up this year also seems stronger than in years past. . . Though I guess that is mainly due to The Features playing.

No offense to you Rach, but I think it's $8 to keep your kind out... If only they were all as cool as you. Although, now the trashy 17 year old thong ratio has now declined... is that good or bad?

So let me get this straight - Now Dancin in the District costs 8 DOLLARS?!! And it's on a SATURDAY NIGHT?!! BOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I will say that I'm happy (for the sake of downtown and its business owners) that DitD is back on this side of the river. Anything that pumps people and money into downtown Nashville is a good thing. But don't hold your breath waiting for me to show up when the Features play; I retired from DitD a couple of years ago.

Don't knock the Halo. I know those guys. Really nice. The music probably isn't what the average Features fan would dig, but they are good at what they do and have a chance of breaking out. ANY band from Nashville that makes it and ISN'T country is a good thing. That's how SCENES get started.

I think it would be. Feable Weiner-- love them or hate them-- are pretty big supporters of our little scene, unlike say, Kings of Leon. If Feable Weiner "made it," I think it would give bands like Slack and Jetpack (yes, I know a lot of you hate them, too) that much more of a chance.

And I don't know anything about Luna Halo, but I saw some guy from Reverse Halo Effect trying desperately to unload CDs last night. He sold one to Mike_D (please come back, Mike!) for 36 cents.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

they have a guy that plays flute, trumpet, saxaphone, recorder, xylaphone, and accordian.

I also play the melodica, which is like a little accordion that you spit into. And I DID play the xylophone and trumpet at the same time...only it was just the mouthpiece part of the trumpet...and it wasn't very good...it sounded like a kazoo with the whooping cough...good times, good times...

Anyway, Popular Genius is totally looking forward to playing with Cake and the Features next month. This show will be totally bitchin'.

I read The Features are playing with Cake on June 19th. that's a Saturday and it is returning to Riverfront, I believe. This sucks for Keith and I, seeing how we'll be playing at the Sutler at that time
So the De Novo Dahl show looks like it is being moved to June 12th at 12th and Porter (a rare 18+ show) for those of you keeping score. So now you can easily go to both shows, unless you hippies are going to Bannaroo.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

You'll always have a friend at a Features show. Unless you're Sina.

Kanye West and The Features aren't playing the same night. That's just a sampling of the bands that will be playing all summer at this weekly event. For more info, try this website.

I would just like to remind everyone that a 12-pack of tickets can be purchased online for $54.40. They're good for any show and you can use as many tickets as you want for each date. I bought mine and I plan to sell them for $5 a piece to anyone I happen to be going with. If I sell them all, I get in free! Unfortunately it's will-call only at this point for the first show, so I can't do any advance deals.

Have the gates always opened at 4:00? Their web site has the music starting at 4:30 and finishing at 10:30. 6 hours of music seems a bit longer than I remember.

What time would one need to arrive in order to be close to the front?

The way I understand it is that Popular Genius will be on at 4:30, then The Features right after, most likely around 5:30. Then comes the really rad lead singer of Tonic to do a solo set, and then Cake.

It's the first year they've started the music at 4:30 (which I think really sucks), but thank god it's back at the riverfront. I think that since it's not on Thurs anymore, they figure that they don't have to start so late (to wait for folks to get off work), but 4:00 seems ridiculously early for opening the gates...

Yeah, but they do take into consideration that Cake could draw about 500x as many people as the Features could any day of the week.

I agree that it sucks that there's a suposedly lite band playing between, but as I understand it, the 3rd and 4th slots have always been reserved for local bands, which I think is really awesome.

That's the best idea I've heard in a while! Cracker Barrel has always been one of my favorites!

My opinion, however, is probably irrelevant because I highly doubt anyone I go with will want to hang out with people they don't know. I probably couldn't go before the show anyway, we're leaving the boro at 4:00.

I would suggest the Hickory Hollow location. You're not going to get much closer to downtown than that, and that would be a good location for the folks coming from Murfreesboro.

The specific address is: 504 Collins Park Drive; Antioch, TN 37013. If you're coming from Murfreesboro, take exit 59 (the 'Bell Road' exit) and turn right at the end of the ramp. Collins Park Drive will be your first right.

Here's a map.

Harding Place and I-65 would be closer for most Nashvillians. The Murfreesborites could take the Harding exit from 24 and drive west towards I-65.

But my opinion means nothing considering I probably won't be able to make it due to a prior commitment.

Okay, well, as it turns out, I will NOT be in town on Saturday. I know you guys are just so sad about that, but I'm sorry.

I still suggest that you guys meet at a Cracker Barrel at 4 pm and eat pancakes. I always get Momma's Pancake Breakfast - it's 3 pancakes, 2 eggs any style, bacon or sausage and an orange slice. But for those of you who aren't in a breakfast mood, the country fried steak is pretty awesome. But whatever you get, be sure and ask for the complementary biscuits and cornbread. They're phasing it out, but you can still get it for free if you ask for it.

Needless to say, there are many other places ya'll could eat. But if you want pancakes late in the afternoon, your options are kind of limited.

I wish I could be there. Ya'll have fun.

I think that's an excellent idea!

Hardrock is very close, so is spaghetti factory, Eddie's, Jacks Bar-B-Q, Joe's Crab Shack, Sbarros wink.gif, and I'm sure a few others.

Ohh yea, how could I forget The Melting Pot

Those are all ok except BBQ since I don't eat meat . I won't be checking the board for the rest of the day so I am leaving Rachel responsible for contacting me and letting me know the details. I hope to see some of you this afternoon smile.gif

lets meet at 4:30 at hardrock. i would prefer melting pot but its pricey and takes a really long time.
if we want to change the location once we all meet up, no big deal.

now i am going to go shower and get my nose pierced and call lots of people.
joey, i dont have your number so i hope you read this in time.
