The recent thread on the new songs of the year led to me looking through the old setlists and eventually, well, coming up with this.

In any case, here are the 43 Features songs that have been played since May of 2001, the date which each was last played, and when available, the date when the song debuted.

Exhibit A (12/13/02)

Thanks to jamiecarroll for expanding on the list, and to everyone who has posted a setlist on this site in the past.

Interestingly, "Stick Together" seems to have only been played twice, maybe three times. It debuted 12-31-01 at 12th and Porter (almost making it onto that list of new ones for 2002... in fact, depending on when the show started, it may have been played in 2002), it was last played at the Blue Cats on 01-12-02, and it may have been one of the "new songs" at the 01-10-02 Boro show. Why give up on a song after so few attempts?

Another fun fact: of the 43 songs that have been played in the past year and a half, 30 have been played within the last three shows. 5 of the remaining 13 have been played since the very end of August. The other eight haven't been played since May or earlier. So there are perhaps 35 Features songs that are still "alive."

The formatting on this is terrible, I know. The board doesn't allow for tabs or multiple spaces, so this is the only way for now. When I get back to school I think I'll just put this info in a table on a webpage.

Enjoy,

Will

Great stuff, Will. I don't have any kind of documentation like this, so it's very interesting to see. When I get home from my errands in a couple of hours, I'll add all of the information that I have (which goes back to August 2001).

"Stick Together": I shouldn't have labeled it as "first time played" on 12/31/01, for it is actually a much older song ('99 or '00, I believe). It was just significantly re-worked and re-introduced on 12/31. But you're right - the re-worked version sure didn't last very long.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Unfortunately, The Features were the openers that night (for Joe, Marc's Brother) and consequently played well before midnight. That was the most I ever paid to see The Features ($12) for one of their shortest sets I've seen. As always, though, it was worth every penny. I really don't remember this song though...

I agree! I love trivia like this. I've thought about writing a web application that would track all of the Features' set lists in a database. It would let you sift and sort the data in all sorts of interesting ways. Maybe you could even do trends and look for correlations between songs. (i.e. If "Kari Anne" is played, there's only a 15% chance they will play "33 1/3.")

I never heard the new version of "Stick Together." I loved the original version that popped up in the summer of 2000. (Wasn't it in the same batch of songs that created "Stagecoach"?)

I don't have the abilities to do the sorts of things you suggest tf, but for what its worth, I was planning on determining the "living status" of their songs, dictated as such:

Healthy: See You Through (ain't a Features show without these songs)
Alive: Someway, Somehow (not many shows go by without these, but it happens)
Hurting: Temporary Blues (has not been played in a few months)
Rarity: Hey Lou; Harold (played on occasion as a treat)
Critical: Paid to Think (played in the past year, but not in several months)
Dead: Jurley (last played over a year ago)
Beyond Dead: Your Smile (band members likely to get violent if song is mentioned in their presence)

And of course update these statuses with every new show. When a song gets to be "hurting" or "critical" we'd know and be able to request it like mad if we wanted to save it.

Anyhow, just ideas I've been tossing about. I'd much rather have your supercool-software tho, tf.

While you may not be able write the program that he is talking about, I'm sure that he can. Maybe we should push for that. That kind of stuff comes to him pretty easily, and I know that I would love to have the information. Then, we can prove what kind of true Features' nerds we really are.

will is the man. nuff said.

documentation like this is very useful. i was telling JC last friday, i enjoy keeping track of setlists that way if there is ever an argument over what was played and when it last played i can just step out and prove everyone wrong. plus my freinds have a hard time remembering things like i do. they always ask me "did they play that last time?" what song is that called?" there is one in every group.

i like this idea. some sites have similaar stuff. i once saw a smashing pumpkins site that had a song database and for eveyr song it listed when it was last performed and etc etc.
We have about 1500 songs.....all of them good!
