Okay, let's beat a dead horse. From my friend David Cash at WRVU:

Hey everybody,
You might have already heard from me about this already, but as many of you know, I am pretty involved with Vanderbilt's radio station, and March 30 marks WRVU's 50th anniversary of it's first broadcast. To celebrate, we have put in a lot of time, effort, and money to bring a series of concerts to the Nashville public on the weekend of March 28-29.
The first event is a free concert, Friday, March 28 on Vanderbilt's Alumni Lawn, which will be free to everybody and open to all ages. We even have a monstrosity of a tent in case it rains. Seven bands will be playing from 4-11 PM on Friday: Notes From Underground, Northern Lights, Lone Official, The Glands, The Features, Crooked Fingers, and Spoon. If you don't already know about these amazing critically-heralded rock and roll acts, then I'll tell you that you will enjoy at least a couple immensely if you list Rolling Stones, Beatles, Weezer, Ramones, Oasis, Bruce Springsteen, or the Strokes as some of your favorites. After the show, there is an after-party just a few blocks down at the End, where you can dance the night away with some of our top-notch electronic DJ's. All proceeds go to the operation of the station.
Saturday night, a funk and hip-hop show will take place at the Exit/In. WRVU was put into the national spotlight in the late 90's for our contribution to underground hip-hop as well as vintage funk, soul and jazz. We're having a family reunion of sorts, by bringing back the DJ's who helped bring hip-hop and funk to Nashville: Egon, Jon Doe, and Cool Hands, who have now begun their own lucrative national careers in entertainment. Also performing will be two of Atlanta's best hip-hop acts Scienz of Life and Prophetix. If you have never been to a WRVU hip-hop/funk event before or don't think you like hip-hop because all you have to listen to on commercial radio is Nelly and Eminem, think twice, because the vibe is laidback and inclusive, but twice as funky and a it's a much better party.
If you can come out and support any of these events, I would greatly appreciate it. Very few college radio stations are lucky to reach 20, so for us to be operating for 50 years now is quite an accomplishment. We only put on this sort of thing once every half-century or so, and it has taken months of my own personal time and effort (add that on being in the homestretch of my Ph. D., and that means not a lot of sleep), so it would mean a lot to see you out. And bring as many friends as you want!!!
Take care,
DC
