TOPIC: Spreading like wildfire

The more I hear of The Features, the more I like them. I'm definitely digging some of the live recordings I've run across. I didn't know if I'd like the cover of "Laid", one of my favorite James songs (since I'm so partial to the original), but The Features played it in fine fashion.

What's more, friends and family are getting into The Features, too. My friend Glenn who went to the Red Rise show with Carligula and Zach and I went out and found "The Beginning" at Tower the next day. My sister Mary Beth is now a big fan of Circus. This is spreading fast... can't wait to share the word back down in Florida.

Is there a recording of "Hey Lou" out there? I must find this. If nothing else, to put on as my start-up song on the computer at work...

Lou:

"Hey Lou" was the hidden track on the Features' self-titled EP. The problem is that this EP is now out of print. You can sometimes find copies of it on eBay. You can find some of the songs on this mp3 site. The track listing is:

01 Armani Suede
02 Attention
03 Button My Shirt
04 That's Me
05 Waffle House Menu
06 Roger's Theme
(07) Hey Lou

Also, Lou, for what it's worth, "Hey Lou" was kind of an official Spongebath Records anthem. Several Spongebath bands recorded their own versions of it. I really like Self's version.

Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I know the song was written by the drummer for the Fluid Ounces. Did they ever record a version of it? I'd love to hear that...

"Hey, Lou" was written by Sam Baker, the first and fourth drummer for Fluid Ounces. (Fl. Oz. went through drummers like Spinal Tap. But Justin Meyer didn't spontaneously combust; he moved to California.) As the band's third biggest fan, I can confidently say that they never recorded a version of the song. However, I think they sang it with the rest of the Spongebath gang at one of the Halloween bashes.

P.S. I saw Seth Timbs at the Features' show on Friday night. I almost cried... OK, not really... but it was nice to see him again.

Seth was there? Amazing! How'd I miss that?

He was in the back with Amber. He arrived when the Features were setting up. I think he was trying to keep a low profile. But when he walked in, Roger and Parrish saw him, and they both waved. Half of the crowd turned to see the person to whom they were waving. He looked a bit embarassed. Anyway, I think he left before it was over. I didn't see him after the show.

Fl Oz may never have recorded a version, but I think they played the best version of it live, hands down. There was just more UMPH when they played it. But that's just my opinion.

Speaking of former FL OZ drummers, Sam and Justin (J-dogg) were both BADASS. two of the most amazing drummers I've ever seen.

For my money, the recorded version on The Features Ep is so energy-packed its amazing. I haven't heard the Fl. Oz. version, but I'd imagine it is great too.

I'm glad the song hasn't died.

Hey, Lou, I enjoy your avatar. Even though I am definitely more of a Match Game fan, it's nice to see someone else representing the Game Shows.

you know, i asked the same question to digsy and iwe the other day. they guessed that he was letting his number of posts rest on 666 for a while. i think that's a valid guess and a humorous/ominous move on yddd's part.

Hey Digsy, I'm definitely a fan of Game Shows. Match Game back in the day had some classic moments, for sure. Richard Dawson was always entertaining.

Thanks for the info everyone on the "Hey Lou" question. No luck finding it so far, but one way or another I'll track it down.

third biggest fan? let's see, i guess yddd is #2; so who's #1?
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

Yes, YaDaDaDa is #2. I think Amber must be the #1 fan. After all she freakin' married the lead guy. That's totally hardcore fandom. (By my rules, you can't be considered a fan if you are a current or former member of the band.)

As for YDDD, I heard a rumor that he met with a terrible fate...
