Our beloved Features had a CD released NATION WIDE today, and no one's mentioned it!

Has anyone picked up a copy yet? If so, where? I'm going to check out Best Buy on my way home tonight.

All of the CD stores in the boro area don't open until 10:30 or 11, and I must work today. If I get an hour break, I will be heading to Hasting's to buy it, and if it is not to be found there, I will be going to Cat's. I had to go to Target this morning to look for a photo album, so I checked there just in case. No sign, but like I expected Target to carry an EP.

I think everyone should post where they have purchased it just so we can track how widespread the EP is.

Well, the online stores at Walmart, Media Play, and Best Buy all list the EP for sale. They should be at all the bricks & morters as well.

slowpokes.... just got the last (and only) one Hastings had. They said that all of their other copies were on backorder.

* I called around mboro and sound shop had 1 copy, cats music had a few, ghetto wal-mart didn'thave it and the new one hadn't even put out the new cds yet.

I'm always sarcastic, man (check out my new signature!). I have every intention of buying the new EP ASAP. You'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger supporter of The Features (with the exception of about 75% of this messageboard).

Great work on the new 2.5 website, Michael!

I bought it at the Disc Exchange here in Knoxville for 7 bucks. They had a healthy supply of at least 10 copies. The store has a section for bands who were going to be in the area soon and since they're coming to Bluecats, I assumed they'd be in that section. They were listed on the calendar, but the CDs weren't in the section. I hounded the clerk to put them over there, as well as set them up on the sampling stations where the new releases are. He didn't look like he was going to spring for it, but at least I tried.

My favorite parts of the new EP:
"the features are: roger dabbs, rollum haas, matthew pelham, parrish yaw"
Also, what better way to make an album cover than in montage??

matthew...

I'm glad to know that the only copies that Cat's and Hastings had went to message board members. At least I can be certain that these places actually had it. I was pretty ticked thinking that Murfreesboro didn't have it. I only went to those two places and I will be heading to many more tomorrow afternoon.

Best Buy in Cool Springs has it for $9.99. I couldn't find it at first so I asked the guy. I was prepared to explain that it's an EP that was released today, but as soon as I asked if he had the Features' new CD, he knew exactly where it was. It was still on the cart of new releases, and it looked like they had about a dozen left.

I saw it yesterday in Borders of Evanston for $7. I didn't get it because
a.) I'm in no rush since I iTunes'd TWIMTB and have had the rest since its release and
b.) They only had one copy and I wasn't about to prevent a "new fan" from buying it.

I'll buy it when it is restocked or when I find it at a place with multiple copies.

Later yesterday, I saw it at Reckless Records downtown USED! I was outraged.

I've been searching the internet for some reviews, and here are a couple.

#3

It is so odd to think that people are comparing the Features to Hot Hot Heat and Franz Ferdinand, two bands that were formed well after the Features (especially FF who formed in 2001).

This review compares them more closely to the Flaming Lips, Polphonic Spree, and the Shins. Now that I can live with.

From #2: "That's right, they're so rockin' they can unabashedly write about getting in touch with the paternal instinct?"

Nice.

I have always seen The Shins comparison, at least in the way of lead singer. When I first saw James Mercer on Late World With Zach oh so long ago, I first thought that he resembled Matt Pelham in delivery and appearance. Musically I can see similarities. "Fighting In A Sack" from Chutes Too Narrow reminds me of "Harder To Ignore" a lot.

Here's a review of the The Way It's Meant To Be single. Who's McClusky?

Another...

And another...

Bravo, gentlemen. This is truly "the beginning."

I figured as much (as your signature leads me to believe) but had to ask. Actually, shortly after posting that inquiry I thought to myself "what if he downloaded it off iTunes.. that's perfectly legit." So I probably jumped the gun either way.

Has anyone downloaded it from iTunes as an alternative to actually buying the disc? I think it's worth owning purely for the artwork if not for the new song.

We have a bunch of UK Press that I have to type up for the Press section - and hopefully I can start snagging these reviews that you all are finding and post them in there as well (I really should try and automate that whole process.. oh well).

I went last night and the dude at the counter had no idea what I was talking about. The only listing on the computer was for a 2001 release. I guess it's a good reason to go to good 'ol Grimey's. That dude cares about local music.

I went to Tower Friday night before the Green Rode Shotgun show with 5 of my friends and we all bought the EP one after another... It was a pleasure seeing the expression on the girls face behind the counter...

On Saturday I was driving around aimlessly, as I tend to do on my day off, with my cameras in tow looking for things to photograph while I listened to the EP on my portable Iriver MP3/WAV player...

I saw a giant bloom of smoke to my west so I thought I would go check it out...at the corner of Washington and Hudgens there is/was an old 2 story Victorian home that has been empty for quite some time that was ablaze in a full yellow and red fire screaming up to the sky…the local fire dept. was on scene with 3 trucks and 20 to 30 firefighters running around everywhere…

I grabbed my camera and jumped out with my Iriver still on and playing…This fire was at it peak when I got close to it and found a good position to get some pictures in a ditch beside the house…As I rapidly pulled off shots of the blaze I realized that “The Beginning (Week One)” was blasting in my ears…It was fucking amazing…all this activity around me…house burning viciously, people running like mad back and forth screaming at each other...and all I could hear was the sweet sound of brilliant music…The Features…an intimate a personal sound track to a reality show that was all my own…I finished shooting within minutes of laying down in the ditch near the house and continued to lay there and listen to the EP in its entirety…twice…I didn’t move until the embers from the house changed direction due to the wind and caught my shirt on fire…It was fucking awesome…I love being alive…I love The Features…I love my shirt with holes in it…

The Rhythm Section?
well, in reality, it was pigeon forge, I've always just considered them both Gatlinburg in my mind. I didn't even step foot into The Rythem Section this trip for some reason. It was some music place outside of one of those never-ending outlet malls.

I always confuse Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge as well. I enjoy the Rhythm Seciton; it's a breath of fresh air in the midst of all the Gatliburg craziness.

Gatlinburg is the one that is packed tightly among all the mountains. Pigeon Forge is a few miles away and more open air. No, I don't know if that makes sense, or if anyone really needed to know.

Does the Rhythm Section still carry all (over-priced) bootlegs?
I still wish I'd bought that "I'd Rather Be Marturbating" shirt a long time ago from there.

Basically they're both fake, useless, forgettable towns.

As I've said many times before, there is no God in Pigeon Forge. For even He fears to tread there.

And I mean it too.

Gatlinburg is at least sometimes quaint in its approach. Pigeon Forge is just utter hell.

From what I recall, Gatlinburg looks very cool and has a lot of interesting buildings. Very cool indeed. Pigeon Forge is just trashy. I mean, where else can you see 5 Live Bears for $7?

My backyard... I only charge $5 though. You just have to squint though, because the fifth one is really my chocolate lab.

I've always described it as "Las Vegas if it'd been built by rednecks."

Do you develop lots of new, secret chocolates in your lab?

Seems apropriate that it would be seen in Gatlinburg.

just bought copy #2 from kats in the boro today... It was their last copy. Hastings has a ton of them now. This is becoming my new favorite "gift".
