The Features , from Nashville, bear comparison to the currently popular Canadians Hot Hot Heat. But they have a sharper garage rock turn to their sound and are visually way more interesting. The scary, hairy bassist, Roger Dabbs, seems to have escaped his Unabomber-style shack, wide-eyed and bearded, while the drummer, Rollum Haas, is equally fascinating, one minute tapping his hi-hat like a chopstick-wielding diner attacking his plate between courses, and the next, playing old-style disco beats at punk-rock speed. Meanwhile, the singer Matt Pelham's eyes shift from side to side like a cheap Japanese animation. They even have several decent songs, such as "Bumble Bee" and "Two by Two", none of which outstays its welcome. Great fun, and a band you'll hear more of.
