if you're referring to the line "just like jesus christ we're misunderstood," I always thought of it as completely harmless, not about the band, and not unlike any christ references that have already been done.

i agree it's harmless, but not everyone will agree. people love to take things out of context. especially if it helps them further their agenda.

When "Closer" got heavy airplay back in the day, I realized that nothing is taboo in rock music anymore (except racism). Country is a different story. In country, you can get banned from the radio for dissing the president. But in rock music, you can sing about how great crystal meth is and have it be a #1 record. So I wouldn't think that comparing one's self to Jesus Christ would cause much of a stir. But I could be wrong.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

i agree, completely harmless. Maybe they'd get more crap about it if they said "Just like Jesus Christ we've come to save the world." but I think if anything, saying Jesus was misunderstood, actually makes a decent point on how people view christianity. Like you said, people will make it mean whatever they want.
