TOPIC: The Ultimate Features Setlist
Posted  Monday, March 1, 2004 at 5:07 PM
Post 1 of 17
Okay, I know this must have been a previous topic, but I got bored searching for it around June of 2002, so let's start anew! I will personally try to keep this current and realistic to craft what I think would be a killer, varied, representative set. Most of it is unoriginal in order, but this is what I would like to see:

The Way It's Meant To Be
Exhibit A $
Darkroom
See You Thru
Someway, Somehow ^
Temporary Blues
Leave It All Behind
Mosis Ptosis #
Your Smile %
Situation Gone Bad
Bumblebee
The Beginning (Week One) *
_______
Moonlight
Kari-Anne
Circus

$-- with the crowd participation that this song is just BEGGING for
^-- with the enthusiasm of the crowd that the song deserves
#-- with a description of the title (including an acknowledgement to me for the spelling)
%-- possibly an updated version?
*-- it just may be time to retire Thursday (I smell a new poll)
Daigle is all we need to make the night complete

No particular order...
Circus
The Beginning EP (Saving The Beginning for the end, including The Way Its Meant To Be)
Someway, Somehow
Exhibit A
There's a Million Ways to Sing the Blues
Me and the Skirts
Harder to Ignore
Love is Golden
Action
Moonlight
Leave It All Behind
Blow It Out
Bring On the Night (do they EVER play this anymore??)
The Idea of Growing Old
God Save Rock and Roll
Thursday

-------------------------------------
Any "oldie" (Armani, Serious, See You Through...)
The Beginning (Week One)

I personally like it when they play "The Beginning" at the end. It and Circus are equally great openers/closers, but I like the irony. When I first saw The Features, they played The Beginning first and closed with Circus. Circus sticked out more in my mind, but I was frustrated that I couldn't find it anywhere, and when I bought the EP, it didn't occur to me until later that "The Beginning" was what they opened with. I think the last song should be a definite "clincher" that makes everyone want to run and buy it so they can at least have that song.

The Features with an orchestra. I haven't thought too much about this, but the possibilities I have get me all giddy (though it'll probably never happen). For example...

D-Con (with trumpets etc.)
Kari-Ann (with strings section)
Anti-Gravity Class of '93 (with strings section)
Leave It All Behind (strings)
Idea of Growing Old (strings)
Perhaps A Million Ways to Sing the Blues?
Hey Lou (with a theremin. by the way, what's a theremin? I know that Parrish used to play one of these during this song, though, so might as well toss it in there)

Hell, even if they just played with a viola, a lot of songs would benefit quite a good deal. Still, no matter what way, I hope The Features spice up their set at least once with one of these things. (Strings, trumpets, just viola, acoustically, etc.) Not like their sets aren't excellence as is, but it'd be a cool change of pace.

It's a little box with a metal rod/antenna thingy poking out top and it plays a certain pitch based on how close your hand is to the rod.

You forgot to mention BUMBLEBEE in the orchestra show. It is one of the only Features' songs that actually has real strings in it (I think).

Nope, I just haven't heard Bumblebee. smile.gif That's right, I don't even own a copy of The Beginning yet. (To change shortly, hopefully)

Ah, so that's what a theremin is. Well, perhaps that wouldn't go with the whole orchestra theme...but it'd still be cool if they played Hey Lou with it again. Or Hey Lou at all.

Would the orchestra join in on all of the clapping parts (TTWIMTB, See You Through, etc.)?

I'll say this. It was a bad idea when Metallica did it, and I'd say it would be a really bad idea if The Features did it. It might work for Portishead (see: Theremin) or Brian Wilson, but I wouldn't really immediately think Features = Orchestra.

I don't think they're real strings. And by the way, who does the "la la's" toward the end of the song? I usually picture a choir of midget clones of Rollum.
