TOPIC: Tour set list

I was getting excited about the possibility of seeing the Features in Chicago, and it struck me that they'll have to pick a very few (6?8?) of their vast catalog of great songs to play as openers. These aren't necessarily my favorites, but the ones that I think would capture the most attention. Anyone else want to throw in their suggested list?

The Beginning
Leave it All Behind
33 1/3
Kari-Ann
Someway, Somehow
God Save Rock N Roll

If 8, I'd add:
Exorcising Demons
Circus
Two sips from the cup of human kindness and I'm shitfaced

well my choices would be:

1. Dark Room
2. Walk You Home
3. The Beginning
4. Speed of 33 1/3
5. Leave it all Behind
6. Exorcising Demons
7. Buffalo Head
8. Thursday

if I had never heard the features, and they played this set, i would be fucking foaming at the mouth for more

alternate selections (to be added in and out during their tour to keep things fresh):

kari-ann
circus
armani suede
see you through

I imagine they'll have more than 8 songs... the last opening act I saw that only got 8 songs was... well, I haven't seen one.

Still, limited to eight, here's what I hope they play...

1. Circus
2. Leave It All Behind
3. Exorcising Demons
4. Buffalo Head
5. See You Through
6. 33 1/3
7. God Save Rock 'n' Roll
8. Thursday

The first additions I'd make would be:
Walk You Home
Two by Two
Kari-Anne
Someway, Somehow

I can't wait. Lauren, lemme know if you'll be going. I too would like to meet the mysterious Lauren...

Good idea, for a topic, Mysterious Lauren. If at all possible, I will see the Features in Chicago. I Heart Chicago!

The Great 8 for Winning Features Fans across the Lower 48:

The Beginning
Leave It All Behind
See You Thru
Exorcising Demons
Kari-Ann
Oh My Love
Someway, Somehow

Okay, that's 7. For the 8th, I would choose one of the following 3, depending on the mood:

God Save Rock'n'Roll
Thursday
Circus

So I'm looking back over this and noticing that I chose mostly older songs. Dammit...you know what? A long as the Features opened with The Beginning or Circus, and closed with GSRnR or Thursday, they'd be fine. All of their songs are so fucking good. They could play anything.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

It seems that almost everyone is choosing older songs. I'm going to take a different route. I think the new stuff is really good, and the band seems to play them with more passion. Therefore, I would submit the following eight songs:

The Beginning (Week One)
See You Through
Leave It All Behind
The Idea of Growing Old
Buffalo Head
Bring on the Night
Walk You Home
God Save Rock and Roll

(I included two songs off The Beginning so people who buy the CD at the show will have something to which they can relate.)

ok my turn.

Circus
See You Thru
Leave It All Behind
Buffalo Head
Beginning
Kari Ann
Armani Suede
33 1/3
Idea of Growing Old
God Save Rock and Roll

10 songs are good. no more. i hate when openi g band splay too long. The Features always show that courtest and play short sets. for the magnitude of their show...10 should do it.
We have about 1500 songs.....all of them good!

Not in any order because to put them in order would take lots of concentration on my part (you have to get a flow going and whatnot)...

The Beginning
Walk You Home (these 2 because they are on the CD available for purchase)
Leave It All Behind (because it's one of the catchiest songs they have)
Dark Room
See You Through (these two because I think they should be played at EVERY concert the Features have. They both offer chances for the fans to get involved with the handclaps)
God Save Rock N Roll (to show that "Hey, the Features rock")
Buffalo Head (newer and awesome)
Thursday

And maybe rotate Buffalo head with Oh My Love and GSRNR with Circus at some places....

The Beginning & Walk You Home -- available on CD
See You Thru
33 1/3 -- very engaging
Exorcising Demons -- very memorable
Dark Room
Leave It All Behind
Buffalo Head
Idea
Bring on the Night
Thursday -- I know a lot of fans are tired of this one, but it is an anthem and a memorable closer to any great show for new Features fans.

After last night's show (9/20/02 @ Blue Sky Court), I think it's quite possible they will play most (if not all) of The Beginning during the Fowl of Bire tour. As a frequent listener of the Features, I'm saddened by this because I like the new stuff so much. However, I think it would be a very smart move on their part because the people at the shows (most of whom will be first-timers) can by the EP and actually get the music they heard at the show.

Does anyone else think this might be the reason they worked up "SWSA" and "Bumblebee"?

Not that I was at the show, but that was my impression as well.

Hm, I think a great set list would be... in no order, because I agree that an roder would take too much thought

see you thru
the design
someway, somehow
circus
dark room
thursday or god save rock n roll
buffalo head
the damage is done
stagecoach
moonlight

Even if it is the reason, the new renditions are wonderful. I wasnt able to hear the May 2nd version of "Bumble Bee," so last night's was even better for me.

Also, does anyone see the possibility of GSRNR possibly replacing Thursday sometime in the future? Maybe I'm just crazy. I forgot what show this was, but someone told me (cant remember if it were a feature member or not) that the set lists were just ideas of songs for them to play... not an actual "this is what we're playing" set list.

Again, maybe I'm just crazy.

Well, at DitD, God Save Rock 'n' Roll did replace Thursday. But at all the shows I've been to, its been one of two things:

a.) no encore, so they play GSRnR, followed by Thursday to close

b.) they end the regular set with GSRnR, and end the encore set with Thursday.

Except for the Blue Cats show, whcih went down like a.) and then we demanded an encore.

As for their setlists, they're somewhat established, but also somewhat fluid, based on the attic show, where the setlist that I got from the stage was what they played, excepting the fact that certain songs were replaced by others due to requests (like 33 1/3 being on the list but Armani Suede was played due to constant request).

I'm sort of wondering how their setlists will look as the Bowl of Fire thing cometh. I do think playing the Beginning in its entirety, as they did Friday night, may be a good way to push it. I honestly think they should toss aside some of the songs that are not new and not in constant rotation now (i.e. Paid to Think, 33 1/3, Kari Ann, Stagecoach). Why? Well, why hook new fans on songs that are not intended for release? Why not just get them hoooked on the newest stuff?

I still haven't decided how much I think the live version of Bemblebee stands up to the unique sound of the EP version. I don't know whether it should become a permanant fixture. I like it as a surprise and something to anticipate (kind of like I do with Grapevine now).

Is Kari-Ann really not in constant rotation? It has been played at every Features show that I've seen (all darn five of them) spanning from Oct 01 to just last Friday and I'm pretty sure that I've seen it in almost all the setlists I've read.

Ooops. That one slipped in. I guess it still is in constant rotation. I still am not sure it should be on the tour set lists--unless it's slated to be on the forthcoming full-length.

I do agree with that. I like Kari-Ann but there are other songs that can be played that can get attention faster and get stuck in more people's heads. I really really want to see one of these concerts!

On a side note, while at Great Escape Friday night, we found an Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire promotional glossy photo. Random.
