TOPIC: Track List for Newbies?

If you were going to create a CD for a friend to introduce them to the Features, what songs would you put on it? For purposes of this conversation, assume that you have access to high-quality recordings of every song. Also try to limit your selection to five or six songs (so you don't overwhelm your friend).

I'm thinking I'd go with...

Bring on the Night
Blow It Out
See You Through
Moonlight
Someway, Somehow
The Idea of Growing Old
grass stains, airplanes, anything and everything

You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

being somewhat of a newbie myself, i feel hardly qualified for this assignment, but here goes:

33 1/3
Blow It Out
The Idea Of Growing Old
See You Through
Circus
Thursday

Those were the ones that grabbed my attention first, anyway. I had access to about 74 minutes worth of Features and I feel like those were the tracks that I listened to most.

I would choose among the following:

The Beginning
Dark Room
Thursday
Bumble Bee
Me and the Skirts
Walk You Home
Leave it all Behind
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

I actually was thinking about this the other day during my dreadfully boring Geology class. I was trying to make a list of some songs for a friend. The ones I picked were:

Circus
Me and the Skirts
See You Thru
The Beginning
Someway, Somehow
Darkroom
Idea of Growing Old

I also made a list of older songs too, kind of a double disc compilation. I'm pretty sure I'll never get around to making it though. I'm really bad about that, just ask Ray.... wink.gif

I always go for the "overwhelm"ing route when making Features mix cds for newbies. I usually do 12 of their studio recordings and then 12 live songs that they haven't professionally recorded yet. But for the purposes of this exercise...in no order....

Leave It All Behind
Circus
God Save Rock & Roll
See You Through
That's The Way It's Meant To Be
Idea Of Growing Old

The Beginning
That's the way...
Bring on the Night
See You Through
Moonlight
Thursday
Me and the Skirts

I find that people generally take a liking to the newer stuff (after Rollum joined the band) a lot faster than they do the older stuff. One very notable exception is "Thursday."

Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I honestly think the best way to win over new fans is to take them to a show. The Features have such a great live act that any recording just can't do justice. I bet that most of us were won over through their live performances, no?

Not that this isn't a great topic. If one had to do it through a CD, then most of these lists would surely do it!
