I've seen many Features fans sporting Features pins and such AT Features concerts. I was raised to believe that this was a music-fan transgression of the highest degree. Same idea behind the band not having their own stickers on their equipment or wearing their own t-shirts as they perform. Anyways, no offense to anyone that does this. Just wondering if there was any special reason behind it.
Why would you do that?

hmmm, i've never heard this "rule" before... but now that i have i'll be sure not to follow it.
so now, fellow uncool features fans, let us rise up at the next show to form an official alliance. the fan who wears the most features merch at one time gets to be master. (i have my fingers crossed!)

I can understand not wearing a band's t-shirt to a concert, but a button? That's ridiculous. I retract my previous sentence, because I don't understand why it is frowned upon for fans of a band to wear the t-shirt to the concert. Who cares? The Features make extremely cute and cool buttons and shirts so I see nothing wrong with wearing either one to the concerts. I think that all "rules" that people try to apply at concerts are stupid anyway (like no air guitar, no singing along, no listening to the band's cd on the way to show) and I break all of these "rules." People may think that I am some sort of stick-in-the-mud who is too "indie rock," but I get just as into concerts as other people.

Hmm...I may just wear my Features shirt to the next show... cool.gif

Shirts are a little much. Pins are ok, I think. (Ben) Slack inspired me to put a sticker of my band on my amplifier, but it is so small that I think it is acceptable.

There's a big difference between someone in a band sporting their own merchandise and a fan sporting that band's merchandise at that band's show. As for the former, I generally think it's cheesy. But concerning the latter, I think it's no big deal.

true dat holmes. buttons/ tee shirts/ stickers, whatev. where what you wanna wear, as long as its not tacky crap pop merchandise.

i would think a band was egotistical and pretentious if they wore their own shirts.

I agree. For example, I have a Nashville shirt I love, but I could never wear it in Nashville because I felt like a dork. But now that I've left it can be my favorite shirt again. I DO, however, love to wear Features shirts to other shows, hoping to publicize what people really should be listening to. But pins are a different matter entirely- like Ray, my pin is on my purse that I have with me every day.

Wow, I have a Nashville shirt too (circa 1985) and I wear it and I live around Nashville. I think it's cute, but I did wonder what the policy was on this. I guess I'll just have to break the rules. And I most definately wear my Features button. smile.gif I guess I'm "that girl"...

i see no problem with wearing a t-shirt of the band you're going to see. i have my band's sticker on my hardware case, mainly so it doesn't get confused with another band's equipment. i don't care if people wear t-shirts of the band their in. i wouldn't personally, but there's nothing wrong with being proud of who you play for. didn't motley crue get their band's name tattooed on every member? that's going too far.

Don't do it Carl. Especially not a band tatoo. I mean, are there any bands you listened to five years ago that if you got a tatoo representing them then you wouldn't be embarassed about now? That's just five years. This is the rest of your life we are talking about. Don't do it.

I listened to The Beatles five years ago, and I would definitely not be embarrassed by a tattoo of that. I think it's fine to get a tattoo of a band that you love, depending upon what kind of person that you are. I'm pretty stubborn with my music choices, so I'm pretty sure I'll still like the same music years from now.

I don't see anything wrong with wearing a Features button to a Features show. I wear my Features buttons all the time, and yes, that means I wear one to shows.

Personally, I don't wear bands' shirts to shows, but that's mostly because I like to go all out and dress up whenever I get the chance, so I usually don't just wear t-shirts. But, I'm not going to ridicule somebody who does.

I don't see anything wrong with supporting your favorite bands by sporting their merchandise.

I know what you are talking about and I have heard it said many times, but I (being the radical thinker that I am) must question why we mock? What is wrong with it, really? This whole discussion has made me decide to wear my Features t-shirt to the 2-28 show and (if all goes according to plan) it'll actually be cool and not fanboyish.

I have heard of that "rule" though. Have any of you seen "PCU"? I used to watch it on Comedy Central ALL the time. There is this one part where they say, "You're wearing the shirt of the band that you're going to see? Don't be 'that guy.' "

I was never mocking to begin with, just so you know. I've just lived my life around music snobs for so long, and it was something THEY would never do, so I assumed everyone who was seriously into music would know and obey this rule. I was just surprised by the number of people who broke it at Features concerts. Never said anything was wrong with it, just wondered what the reasoning was behind it. Honestly, I meant no offense to anyone who does it. I was not insisting that "we must mock."

To clarify, I mock the people that show up in the pristine, just-purchased weezer shirt that was clearly bought to look cool at the weezer show (to cite a few examples from the summer). I dunno... I ALWAYS try to wear a band's shirt to a show, but a different band. I'm at the show, clearly I like The Features, but who else do I like? Its more communal that way...
