TOPIC: What label will it be on?

So I keep getting this feeling, everytime I listen to the Features, that them getting signed is a ridiculous inevitability. Following that logic, it seems a reasonable question to figure out who would sign them.

I'm hoping for Matador. I just don't want them to get lost in the fold of a major label. Dreamworks wouldn't be bad because though they don't seem to market their great bands, they do continue to support them well (eels, self). I could also see them being signed by any A&R guy that found The Strokes or The White Stripes.

So who will it be?

not matador, not an indie label. probably a mid-sized major owned by one of the big five.
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

I brought this back up from December after reading that The Features are in the process of being signed. The source of said information is fairly reputable, especially in conjunction with the news they are going to the studio to record a full length (again). So, any guesses on where they are going? Anybody?

I have heard from a reliable source that they are going to Universal. However, I could always be wrong.

You know what that means. They're going to be signed to Roc-A-Fella. I was wondering why I thought I kept seeing Jay-Z around town. Of course that could also mean Mahaffey finally convinced Dreamworks to sign them up.

Isn't Universal Records still a part of the Vivendi corporation? If so, they're about to be sold either to Microsoft or Apple...

Don't know what that means, but there it is.

Yes. Vivendi is actually a French company.

yes, yes, of course.

anyway, it seems that a lot of people were making a real effort to keep quiet about this label thing for the sake of the band, so thank you,l y2jbrock, for not excercising such restraint.

I almost expected BrianW to remove or edit this thread because of that. I thought there were "legal reasons" for not talking about a deal in the works. Maybe not.

At any rate, I'm always a skeptic when it comes to the music industry. They like to jerk people around too much. I won't believe they've been signed until I see their new album (which should be called The Tom Foolery Experience) on the shelves at Best Buy.

And, lastly, Apple has denied that it's bidding to buy Vivendi.

I think until it's posted on this site in an official capacity and the press release is issued, any label talk on this board, Universal or whomever, is completely conjecture. I don't think there's any legal issues that I know of, though that wouldn't surprise me. I think there's more of an issue of "don't get your hopes up", "wait until the ink is dry" or "please don't jinx this" sentiments with the band right now.

P.S.
I'm not sure what I'm writing at the moment. I'm going on little sleep. People keep buying the country records right now so I keep having to cut country related videos.

I wonder if that's just because Vivendi's a French company. If so, I think that is completely lame.

It's hard for me to imagine that Apple would buy Vivendi, not because of the French connection (ah yeah, movie pun), but because I cannot imagine Apple taking on such a task. They are a fairly cash-heavy company, but they aren't exactly dominating the market they're currently in. AOL bought out Time-Warner at the height of their popularity and market dominance. And, well, the mind has just stopped working... boy am I looking forward to a day off Friday. In conclusion I just don't believe Apple would do it.

Apple's gunning for some crazy multimedia market dominance though... buying so many old Adobe folks to get Final Cut up and going, buying the Cineware people for Cinema tools, buying Logic, buying Shake, marketing the Hell out of the iPod, intergrating iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie really well.... they want to be on the cutting edge of a new music industry where iPods and downloads are distribution. And they could make it work.

I don't like the idea of music going there, but I can see them pulling it off.
