what band deserves the title of worst opening act for the features?

i'll get us started..born empty at next generation or senyru at blue cats.

please don't get me started on this one.
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

some band that opened for them at 'the nick' in birmingham - they played for twice as long as they were suppose to and all they did was drink, play their instruments really bad, drink some more and act real stupid, and play bad cover songs and drink until they made no sense on stage and it just sucked

I tried to think about this and named a couple in the other thread, but I realized that I mainly go into Features shows just hoping that opening act will be bearable and not painful to hear. I very very rarely see someone I'd want to see again, and the best I usually just don't hate.

God...I really don't like putting down other bands, because all created music is inherantly good, it's just a matter of taste. And that band that you don't like is someone else's blood sweat and tears.  But to me personally, Senyru was almost unbearable.  I'm sorry.

this board has now become the Senyru bashing board but there is just no way that they are as bad as some of the other bands in this thread

wow. that's a very good call. I do agree with you on that, and it is all relative and a matter of opinion, and I respect other people's opinions, and I certainly respect other people's music. so, right on.
thank you for being a friend.

But is it really 'putting down a band' if you say you don't like their music? I used to be kinda sad because none of my favorite bands ever got played on the radio. Then I looked at the crap they were playing on the radio. I was actually GLAD that most people didn't like their music. If a lot of people like it, they're not pushing the art far enough.

Jairus back in Jan...............
jairus is a lot better than most bands that open for the features. i think they're good. my personal pick for worst opener is hands down....ASH MONDAY. i don't know how many of you saw this show at the boro. the drummer had an all electronic kit(even cymbals)except for his bass drum!?! the girl bassist had scary wondering eyes, kind of like men at work's vocalist. they were a christian act too....but isn't everyone.

look dammit, the radio is a product. they want music that will sell pepsi and pringles. ocassionally good music gets stumbled upon as marketable and accessible and whatnot, but the mass produced boy bands and matchbox 20s are created because they're what everyone likes and gets and will listen to between commercials. but as jamie will argue, that's still somebody's hard work. popular doesn't necessarily equal bad, just as being unheard of/indie doesn't necessarily mean good. just look at how much stereolab sucks, and they're as pretentious and as 'look at us, we have a message' as it gets. i think art is in the artist and taste is in the listener. if creed sleeps well at night thinking they're artists, well them god bless em.

stereolab does not suck in the least. the new stuff most certainly reeks of formula, but 'transient random noise bursts..' is great. stereolab has never been a 'we have a message' type band anyway. if we're talking about pretentions in music then almost every band is guilty of it, including radiohead(especially), pulp(in a self mocking way), suede, blur, anything on elephant 6(the whole elephant 6 idea is), gang of four, wire, pere ubu, can,
gang of four, etc. it's a natural part of being a musician. ego and self righteousness have to come into play at some point or people would never leave their bedrooms or garages.

reasons i hate stereolab:
1. female singer (i don't pay to hear no damn girl sing)
2. 'borrowing' from neu!
3. repetition
4. repetition
5. bossa nova
6. lounge music
7. elevator music
8. *the real reason* heavy associations with a boy who formerly frequented my life, and worshipped stereolab

everyone whose musical opinion i trust loves stereolab, and my reasons for actually not being in to them are more 'political' than anything. don't listen to me, i'm a damn moron. i just like to hate stereolab.

david bowie is one of the greatest artists of all time.  granted, he did lose steam in the 80's, but you cannot deny the brilliance and consistency of his classic period from 1970 to 1980. he released 14 classic albums during that time. bowie is awesome. the man is a genius.  some may think that he is pretentious(hell, during the making of 'heroes' he said that he and brian eno were creating the new school of pretention). i think he fucking rocks. i mean come on, 'life on mars?', 'moonage daydream', 'station to station'? the man was a fucking savior for rock in the early 70's and he continued to push the envelope until he 'sold out' with 'let's dance' and 'tonight'. i know i may be going overboard, but david bowie fucking rocks!!!

hey ray, i love bowie as much as i love wise hot cheddar popcorn, which is a whole lot. you still have to acknowldege that he's friggin' pretentious. it's not neccesarily an insult. and i'm sick of typing the word
pretentious. it's too long. talking about pretentiousness is pretentious.

i actually like 'earthling' quite a bit too. it's the only thing i liked since scary monsters. most people just hate everything except 'ziggy stardust' and the eno trilogy.
