TOPIC: Yet another tracklist speculation thread
Posted  Monday, January 26, 2004 at 12:51 AM
Post 1 of 39
Well, the album is coming, God (er... Daigle) knows when, but it is coming. What's going to be on it? This speculation is futile, and many of you seem to already know, but I'm going to toss out what I think's in store.

THE FEATURES: EXHIBIT A
---------------------------------
1. Circus
2. Exhibit A
3. Walk You Home
4. The Way It's Meant to Be
5. Me & the Skirts
6. Harder to Ignore
7. Moonlight
8. Temporary Blues
9. Look Out Below
10. The Beginning
11. Leave It All Behind
12. Action
13. God Save Rock 'n' Roll

B-Sides: Someway Somehow, Growing Old, Situation Gone Bad, Million Ways to Sing the Blues, Blow It Out

Just throwing this out there.

Will

I like Exhibit A as a title and can't remember if it has been rumored, suggested, or if I actually thought of it. I think they ought to use it tho.

Man, I wish we had a "Mastermind" board & this could get really fun. Should I tell you how many black pegs you have? Naw.... YDDD is right & plus you also forgot "Jurley". Remember that the only true oracle into the plans of Daigle is brianeno2. Do not be fooled by false prophets.

Mastermind was classic...

I don't know why I said that in the past tense, as though it no longer exists.

Oh well. I'll find out soon enough.

I don't see Moonlight or Temporary Blues making it. The former has dropped out of rotation unfortunately and the latter was only revived after the "All Request Show." I wonder if Thursday might make an appearance.
Also, Million Ways to Sing the Blues.

add in "exorcising demons", "blow it out" (unfortunately), "million ways", and possibly "the idea of growing old". we just might have the tracklisting wink.gif

you could add it to both. (though the idea of growing old is a better song and could be the "ballad" on the album)

I love Blow It Out. Speaking about those ideal Features releases that were fantasized about on these boards a while back, I think it'd be awesome to have a "33 1/3" b/w "Blow It Out" seven-inch single...two songs about vinyl, on vinyl.

It would have been a good title for their original EP or the un-released Mississippi album. The band has advanced beyond their vintage Brady nerd phase into something more evolved.

I said the very same thing a while back when we were discussing a similar topic (33 1/3 with Blow It out on the bside). My idea was to have a picture of a speaker cabinet and record player on the cover and the backside of the picture sleeve shows the speaker cabinet after it's been "blown out."

Something like this?

I like the concept. And I like that pairing, partially because I'd rather Blow It Out not be on the record, and more importantly I'd rather 33 1/3 get re-recorded and released.

Exhibit A is a great title. My tracklisting would be...

1. Circus
2. The Way It's Meant To Be
3. Leave It All Behind
4. Million Ways to Sing The Blues
5. Me & The Skirts
6. Exhibit A
7. Harder To Ignore
8. Dark Room
9. Idea of Growing Old
10. God Save Rock & Roll
11. Blow It Out (US only?)

Of course, newer apparent Pelham faves "Love is Golden" and "Mosis Ptosis" may have emerged during a recording session. I don't know where I'd place "Buffalo Head" since it's not going to be the single. The subject matter may keep it off the album. "Dark Room" is a pipe dream and I don't really see them re-recording any Mahaffey era songs. Since The Beginning EP is being released nationally, I don't think that any of those tracks will appear on the album.

Mastermind is a great game. I have a travel version of it and I haven't played it in over 7 years. We should arrange a tournament.

For some reason I thought I'd heard that some of these tracks were re-recorded and I actually got excited by that prospect. But maybe not.

I love the old recordings, no reason to update. But if they did, how would they differ? An interesting question that tempted me.

why do you say dark room is only a pipe dream? I think it is one of their all time greatest, and it has never been on any type of media availiable to the public. Anyway, I hope you're wrong too- I like that song more than stuff that is most likely a shoe in for the album. Why ohh why can't they just make a double cd??? lol

For a while, I thought that "Dark Room" wasn't a favorite of the band. But they've resurrected it to every show status in the past couple of months, so who knows. I'm pretty sure that "See You Thru" and "Kari-Ann" won't make the cut, even though "SYT" is one of the quintessential Features songs.

I'll second your amen. I like all four of the songs, but Darkroom and SYT are the two most superior.

I also heard that some of the Beginning EP songs were re-recorded. I would expect the Beginning and Walk You Home to be on the album.

What do I wish would be on the album? I couldn't even begin to know how to go about answering that question.

What do I think will actually be on it?

Definitely (book it!):
"That's the Way It's Meant to Be"
"Blow It Out"
"Exhibit A"
"Me & the Skirts"
"Leave It All Behind"
"Look Out Below"

Then pick 4 to 6 of the following:
"There's a Million Ways to Sing the Blues"
"The Idea of Growing Old"
"Someway, Somehow"
"Exorcising Demons"
"Situation Gone Bad"
"God Save Rock'n'Roll"
"Circus"
"Harder to Ignore"

i think that since the features have so much material, if these first 12 or 13 songs take off, they could easily put another album out within a year...but...is that how it works? or will they market the hell out of it until people get tired of them, and THEN put out a new album?

Current setlists would put some of your "upper" category lower... "Look Out Below," unfortunately, has dropped alot.

Meanwhile, "Harder to Ignore" seems a certainty to me. And a good thing that is. Same for "Circus."

To clarify, my original post was what I expected, not what my ideal would be. No idea how to answer that either.

It's hard to believe that it debuted at the February 28th Rob Rickman Birthday Party Bonanza Extravaganza last year at the Red Rose, almost a year ago.

I also heard that some of the Beginning EP songs were re-recorded. I would expect the Beginning and Walk You Home to be on the album.
According to the "Shards of the Jackson, MS Recording Sessions" video, they definitely re-recorded "The Beginning" and they definitely recorded the following:

Idea of Growing Old
Blow it Out
The Way It's Meant To Be
Excorcising Demons
Leave It All Behind

Awhile back, Rollum said (in Random Thoughts from the Band) that they recorded 15 songs and would probably select 12 for the album, so "Excorcising Demons" isn't necessarily a shoe-in, although I hope it is.
