Lately I've heard about the things that you have said,
And I've wondered quite a bit just what you might have read.
Out from the inside where the future's much too bright
I heard you crying loud, but that don't make it right.

Hold on 'cause the end is coming soon, it won't be long.
The time has come, and the life you know has got you on the run.

So if you ever feel the least bit insecure,
I'll bring it down to you and set it at your door.
'Cause when you're sleeping, you'll be sorry that you did.
I've got no feelings but I've got my head _______

Hold on 'cause the end is coming soon, it won't be long.
The time has come, and the life you know has got you on the run.

Hold on 'cause the end is coming soon, it won't be long.
The time has come, and the life you know has got you on the run.

More like he never had anything written for that part and he makes it up each time. I thought we had confirmed this... i'm too lazy to look up the thread.

Yes, but I feel that in the beginning, there was some sort of lyric there. Maybe it deteriorated over time, but there had to have been a lyric there when he "completed" the song.

But even if they were there in the begining, that doesn't help us so much now, listening to the cd a million times just to try to figure out what he said. I love this song, though. Glad to finally have a good quality version of it.

There have been plenty of songs where Pelham just mumbled until he eventually came up with lyrics. I just think, in this case, he never did.

i treat it like a "choose your own adventure." it changes every time i sing along (yes i sing along) but i usually say "i've got my head up, BITCH" simply because it's fun to scream bitch as loud as you can, while looking angrily at the driver next to you at the redlight.

then you can peel out and make an ass of yourself.

even in the recorded version, he backs away from the mic (or they mixed in a room mic) so you can't understand what he's saying.

I remembered reading this a while back and didn't know if it had ever been deciphered other than "hand job". After having heard the album a million times I can safely say the words are:
I've got no feelings, but I've got my hands up.

It makes sense in the song like he's on some crazy ass ride or something, hoooooold on. Either way I thought I'd post it, even if someone already knew this.

Out of all options discussed, I find "Hand job, bleh" to be the superior lyric.

If you had no feelings, what would you rather have instead, your hands up (I can't see how this would be any consolation) or a handjob (which I've heard can be very soothing indeed).

Watching Matt tonight, I perceived him to be singing a word that started with an "L" at that particular part in the song. Perhaps even a "la" sound.

But we know how Matt is with last words in a line.

I agree with Token on the superior lyric.

I will always sing "hand job clear" or "hand job bleh."

I do like stalker on skates' idea from way way back..."hot tub lid."

Pretty sure that was hers.

I've always listened to it (on the record) as "I've got no feelings, but I've got my head on straight." Upon reading this thread, I do hear a "j"-sound in the second syllable, but I don't mind...it might not be right, but at least it makes some kid of sense.
