TOPIC: Exorcising Demons
Posted  Sunday, June 9, 2002 at 4:14 AM

I'm staying with a friend of mine
Cause at home the tension's running high
Even though we both agree
This is for the best maybe - you're wrong

I'm sorry bout the dirty clothes
And all the dishes in the sink
I think I need some time alone
I just need time to sit and think

Sounds good and everything
Even though it kind of stings
I'm exorcising demons from my life

(Everybody!!!)
Oh demons be gone
Leave me alone tonight
Oh tonight

Don't come around here any more
Don't wanna see you at my door
I can hear you haunting me
That much is plain just let me be

Now I want to hear everybody singing at the next show.

I've always thought it was "Sounds good and everything." However, last night (9/26/02 @ the Boro), the vocal mix let me hear this much more clearly. I'm quite certain Matt sings, "Something good in everything." This line makes more sense, I think.

That is a better line but I'm pretty sure it is "sounds good and everything" in the Mahaffey version, and we all know that once Matt writes a lyric down it is written in stone.

Those was jokes, he probably did change it. Of course I just couldn't hear it last night.

Just a couple of comments...

I agree with sos... "Maybe we're wrong."

I just listened to the Mahaffey version, and I agree with you, Digsy. However, the Rawlings version seems to say, "Something good in everything."

Why don't we just break down and ask Matt? smile.gif

If you have the courage go for it. If I asked it'd probably just be "Um um eh um....Ex...er..thank you for the show"

I'm so articulate.

Changing this up a little, how do you prefer the part when Matt sings, "Don't come around here any more..."? Most of the time he plays guitar along with it, but I prefer when they all stop and the only accompaniment is Parrish snapping his fingers or clapping his hands.

I do enjoy the handclaps more. Handclaps make any song a great song.

I know that on weezer.com Rivers submits his lyrics to the site...maybe Matt should too so the site can have a comprehensive lyrics page? The lyrics links on the A-V page have never worked...and I still want an official answer to the Beginning mystery of "in your room/in the gloom."

The first reason is that I think Matt is afraid of computers.

Second, he's not a megafan of himself, so he's not quite as interested in archiving every thing he's ever said or sang. He's a bit too humble for that, I think.

Third, I don't think he cares.

Fourth, given the choice between a better Features show from new songs and more practice time and archvied lyrics we can interpret ourselves, I'll take the former from someone with a wife, two kids, and a day job.

Okay, oops then. What if the lyrics that we have submitted are placed in an A-V section? It'd be easier than coming here and searching for the right thread...not that I really care either way. I, too, would rather them concentrate on shows, babies, etc.

WOuldnt that defeat the purpose of this section of the message board?

Anything posted under an official lyrics section would need to be straight from the band. This message board forum allows you all to post your own versions, your interpretations, etc., then argue, chat, discuss over whether they're right or not.

But... I'll certainly run this by Matt and the band. If they don't care, then we'll get something official up there.

Here are instructions for playing the song. Sorry they aren't simpler. This song has lots of little changes. I could write it on a piece of paper just fine. It's hard to write out songs in text format and I hate tab. Good Luck figuring it out.

It's in F# minor I believe

INTRO:
F#, but life your index finger occaionally so the open E string gets in there, too (at least I think thats what it is)
Ends with these notes in that little walkdown riff: F#, G#, A, F#, G#, F nat, C#, B, A, G#, F#
(all in the F# minor scale)

VERSE:
F#m (with the occasional open E string thing)
goes to C#m (maybe C#7) after "tension's running high"
then it goes:
F#m, Bm, F#m, C#m, (or maybe C#7), Fm
(all this is floaty and probably just the top halves of the chords on the higer strings)
Then the little riff: C#, D, C#, B
Then all that again but more solid

PRE-CHORUS ("sounds good..")
A C#m F#m D
A A C#m C#m

CHORUS:
The hits are: F#m F#m Bm
"tonight oh tonight" goes F#m, C#m (or it might be C#7), F#

SOLO:
basically just the first three notes of the F# minor scale, with a few walk downs, including the one that was used at the beginning of the song to go back into the next verse

That's it.. I'm a bass player, not primarily a guitar player, so my chord qualities are sometimes wrong.
