There's a hell of a lot of good shows Sept. 12 and 13th, here's the run-down...

Friday, Sept. 12:
Verde @ Blue Sky Court @ 10:30 - $5
De Novo Dahl @ Exit/In @ 11:20 - $10
Slack @ The End @ 12:10 - $5
Character @ Blue Sky Court@ 12:10 - $5

Saturday, Sept. 13:
Imaginary Baseball League @ Blue Sky Court @ 11:20 - $5

You can get an all-access pass at Tower Records on Broadway for about $20. There's close to a million other shows that weekend too, so I suggest buying the pass. I can't think of a better way to spend the 2nd anniversary of the first and second days after 9/11. Can you?

With the exception of Sam Ashworth at 9:40 (?) on saturday, that pretty much sums up my schedule so far. Good work. Unfortunately, I'll have to miss Character (again) to see Slack. Sorry, Stopforme.

I too will have to miss Character so that I can see Slack for the first time. I feel bad, but I get to see them tomorrow, so it's cool.

God damn it! What a terrible shame that the 1000th topic in Misc wasn't supposed to be in that category at all. Fuck.

I guess I'm just too old-school.

I like that place, except for it's bloated prices on shit. I like their sound better than most places that I go to. It sounds great if they have the right people's mikes turned on. The show that De Novo Dahl played there sounded awesome, except that Mark's vocals kept cutting out.

2NMC last year was amazing. I love cruising from show to show all over the city, hearing all kinds of great music. This year will be more of the same, and I can't wait. And thelawnwrangler and I are actually going to some of the forums this year, too.

This conference is such a blessing, ya'll. Don't take it for granted!

I just found a 2NMC guide that the Rage is putting out. I'm wondering what Keith is looking at in Verde's promo picture. He and Brian seem really distracted by something or they're trying not to look at Andrea's bare mid-drift. I mean, if it's there, why not look?

On related notes, we should all go see the Choir Girlz from page 27 at the Trap. They're badass. And the two promos next to theirs have some babes in them. So, go pickup your copy of this guide pronto and we can get to discussing these urgent matters of state.

Given the length of sets and the fact that it's on a Friday, I have a strong feeling that the m-r-s and I will be making only one set.

So the question...

De Novo Dahl or Verde??

So I think I've come up with a gameplan. It's ambitious, I know, but I'm 'avin it large, knowarimean?

THURSDAY, 9/11
10:30 the Carter Administration @ the Blue Sky Court
11:20 Ruby Amanfu @ 12th & Porter
12:10 the Del Giovanni Clique @ the Exit/In

FRIDAY, 9/12
8:00 the Nashville Symphony @ TPAC
9:40 Laws Rushing @ 12th & Porter
10:30 Verde @ the Blue Sky Court
11:20 De Novo Dahl @ the Exit/In
12:10 Slack @ the End

This schedule is subject to change. I'm a little disappointed that they don't have the hip-hop showcase going late into the night (2-3am) like they did last year - that would be a perfect nightcap. But I might just check it out earlier in the night Saturday night...we'll see.

1) Their fans seem like assholes
2) They seem like assholes
3) They beat some buddies of mine in a Battle of the bands (not a good reason to hate, I know)
4) They're nashville's answer to Limp Bizkit (only not as good)
5) (and most importantly) They've talked shit about the features in interviews (which I believe was reported by Smee. Am I right about that one?)

So, thanks to a tip from Slack, I caught Unknown Hinson last night. Very entertaining schtick. He's this old dude with fake sideburns who looks like a "demonic Elvis" (according to Keith) that plays a mix of country/western, "horrorbilly", and bluesy rock. He claims to have invented country music, but was framed for murder while Hank, Johnny Cash (RIP), and company flourished from his style. His songs are 100% novelty songs with titles like "Your Man is Gay" and "I Ain't Afraid of Yer Husband". His band consists of a colonel sanders looking dude on bass, an old crazy-eyed white-haired drummer and a gangly and solemn chauffer/bodyguard. There was no energy whatsoever from the band, and the bodyguard stood entirely motionless throughout the entire 40 minute set. very entertaining, but I have to say the actual music wasn't that great (with the exception of some sweet guitar solos).

Also, thanks to a tip from De Novo Dahl, I caught Ruby Amanfu last night. Extremely talented voice. Although not really my style of music, she had great presence and her band had a nice, full, smooth sound. I will admit, though, the band was a bit "busy" at times. The highlight of the night was when Ruby was plugging her website, she said, "If you have a problem spelling my name, just think 'Hey Man, F- You'."

I'm stoked about tonight. I'm thinking 5 bands in 3 venues. Cause I'm hardcore like that.

9:40 Miranda Sound @ Blue Sky Court

i thought ruby's set was awesome. i do agree about the busy-ness at times, but i think a lot of that was due to the back ground singers singing in the wrong registers, they took up too much space, and the keyboard player over played a little, but as far as the vibe and stuff, i love the heavy grooves. it gives her music a lot more dance-ability and energy. that rhythm section was off the hook yo. see you guys tonight. except keith - i never want to see keith again in my life - what a jerk.
