You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

The Soft Boys rule. Jamie, did you get into them via REM? I know those guys were big fans. Check out 'Underwater Moonlight.' It's a masterpiece.

I meant the album 'Underwater Moonlight.' The song is cool also. It has 'I wanna destroy you' on it.

Yes, I have Underwater Moonlight, and yes, it is killer diller.

No, I did not hear about the Soft Boys via REM, but via a certain punk compilation called 'Punk Rock Roots and Innovators, Volume I: 1965-1980'.

It's funny that you should mention the REM connection, though.  I have always thought that the vocal harmonies on the chorus of REM's 'Belong' on Out of Time sound almost directly lifted from the vocal harmonies on the chorus of 'I Wanna Destroy You'.  They are even in the same key. Hmmm...

REM actually did two live show with Billy Bragg & Robyn Hitchcock back in 1991 (under the name 'bingo hand job' ).  REM's songs comprised most of the set, plus a few covers.  You think they would've whipped out some Soft Boys songs.....
