A couple of noteworthy things from my visit to Nashville:

(1) Went to a baby shower & as we were pulling the plaster cast off the mama's belly, "Stark White Stork" started on the CD player shuffle! Very nice coincidence

(2) Went to Grimey's and the guy running it was talking about it as if he were the new owner? He was very nice & even played a preview copy of the new Character stuff for me, but what happened to Monsieur Grimes??? Anyone?

p.s. David Byrne will be interviewed about the Talking Heads on Morning Edition tomorrow.

you probably talked to doyle. i only see mister grimes in there occasionally. roadie could probably confirm this, but i've heard that doyle is the main man at the record store.

Hmmm, maybe. But he was talking like it was a new thing for him, and talking about how he was going to organize the shelves & records & talking about this new listening station, etc.

Yes, Doyle has only been Grimes' partner for a couple of months now, I think. Doyle is a great asset to that place - so knowledgable and so friendly. I think he still has a radio show on WRVU.

Actually, I don't think any nonstudents have shows on WRVU anymore. The University felt that certain students were being denied the opportunity of having a show. Unfortunately, they had to get rid of some really good shows to make room for those students.

I have nothing to back this up.

yeah, i'm pretty sure doyle and grimey are co-owners, even though mickey runs a lot of the show. there's also a kid that works there that also works at midtown wines and spirits on church street. i think that he just helps out mostly...... he knows a lot about wine and spirits though, too.

but doyle has helped it actually get to the point where its sales count in the charts... what's it called again? soundscan? my brain is hurting right now.

anyway, i think he pretty much runs the show now. and mickey always has a good suggestion for me.... but he's in europe.
maybe i could sing along
to your neverending songs,
i'm just looking for some fun

folks......

Doyle has been running Grimey's for well over a year now...He is a co-owner and operator. He and Mike are business partners. I don't know the specifics. Mickey and Doyle basically run the store together, and Mike helps out when he can, because he is so busy being, you know, grimey. There is also a good guy named Cody that works there too.

Its people like this who have done a lot for the music scene here in mostly invisible, thankless ways. The least I can do is patronize their store and recommend them to others.
