Anti-war songs can coughsuckitcoughcough. I hear Lenny Kravitz stores dildos in his hair (for no one else's pleasure, mind you). Seriously though, Lenny Kravitz is a bitch.

i've always thought kravitz was an unoriginal dumb-bunny. he's also the writer of one of my least favorite lyrics ever..."i wanna fly high, like a butterfly, in the sky". that's bullshit. i've always liked "it ain't over 'till it's over" though. oh, and i went to the beastie boys site to e-mail them about re-releasing liquid liquid. instead i found an anti-war song of theirs with really stupid lyrics.
Nothin' gets in my way....Not even locked doors!

Those are perhaps the most unoriginal lyrics ever sung. I wonder exactly how many people have used that junk over the years. ..."Hmm, I'm a sorry excuse for a musician, and I'm too uncreative to actually think..so I'm going to talk about my desire to fly like various winged creatures" (butterflies, eagles, birds, etc.)

... Really, I have never had the desire to fly, let alone write a song about it.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

What even makes me more sick is "Fly Like an Eagle". I hate that song. It's so spiritual. I want to scream every time I hear it.

Well, you know, the whole wanting to fly like an eagle, let my spirit carry me, or whatever the stupid thing says. I meant spiritual as in being in tune with your spirit, more than being in tune with God.

Lenny Kravitz used to be great. His first 4 albums are all really good. He's like Samson, though. He let that woman cut off his hair, and he lost all of his strength. He seems too vain and obsessed with fashion now to care about his music. I can't listen to him any more.

I love Lenny Kravitz's music, I'm a big fan of his. Dreds or no dreds stupid lyrics or not... I like his style as an artists and I still listen to him, I've seen him in concert twice and I respect his music. I don't think he's unoriginal at all. No more than any other well-know rocker today. I think he is just influenced by other great artists. Every artists has influences and whether people admit it or not it leaks into their style of music.

I do think that his music does make huge changes when u compare album to album but that's because he bases alot of his music on his life at that certain point in time.

ok, lenny kravitz in my opinion as a musician does suck. he is very unoroginal and repetitive in his lyrics and music style. heard the song "I wonder if ii'll ever see you again?" same damn thing over and over again. drives me batty.

but i think the point here is that artists are trying to write antiwar songs becaseu they have a powerful voice in america, note topic called WAR in which JC discusess jon stewart's influence on politics.

and lets face it, political songwriintg/ poetry writing is really hard. its hard to do without sounding trite or too hippie-like. the point is that its happening - and that's the important thing.
thank you for being a friend.

I'm not a huge fan of Lenny, but if someone wants to listen to him, that's fine. I don't have to listen to certain bands to make myself feel smart or so I can fit in with the cool kids. I'm not worried about my "indie cred". I'm not trying to start anything... but damn, it's just music.

I just support celebrities stating there opinions about the war whether it be through song or through something written on a guitar, anything a speech. They just get judged more than the average person because they are all out in the public eye.

I personally do not like hearing celebrity opinions on political matters. For the most part, they do not seem to be qualified experts. I prefer to listen to a historian who has written books on a topic, rather than Rosie O'Donnell's latest complaint with George Bush. People like Phil Donahue and other well-known talk show hosts bring these celebrities in to voice their conservative/liberal opinions. To some Americans, "Celebrity #1" must know what he/she is talking about, because they are being put on TV to talk about it. In a more logical light, it seems that the only reason the celebrity is on the show is because the programmers believe that we want to see them. It's a weird cycle. Personally, I prefer Bill O'Reilly. I do not always agree with him, but he often shows topics in a perspective that I tend to agree with. His redeeming quality is his "take it or leave it" attitude. He stands his ground when he has a steadfast opinion on something, instead of caving like a wuss. In times like this, I do not want to see a host "playing up" to a guest. He definitely does not do that.

Me too. And as you'll recall, Lenny Kravitz at the Ryman Auditorium was one of the top five concerts I've ever attended. He had a hell of a band, ya'll, and they rocked it for over 2 hours.

As far as Lenny being derivative goes, ya'll need to take a good hard listen to your favorite bands. Are they really doing something completely original? Not so fast, Strokes fans. Yeah, Lenny wore his influences on his sleeve, but most bands do. They just have more obscure influences so they don't take as much shit for it. Anyway, I liked Lenny a lot better back when he was blatantly ripping off every popular rock and soul artist of the 70s. At least his music was good then. Now that he's trying to be so modern, I think he's lessderivative, but lots worse. "Fly Away" makes me want to vomit, too.

I have no problem with protest songs. Let the artist deal with whatever subject matter he or she wants, I say. It doesn't mean I have to like it (and I usually don't), but sometimes politics and rock'n'roll mixing together works.

I like the original version for its involvement with "American Beauty", and Mike Watt reminiscing about playing it for hours after school with D. Boone in the early Minutemen days.

I don't think people should just believe blindly in what a celebrity says or anything. I just enjoy hearing different opinions on subjects, whether they be professional historian opinions, a guy on the side of the street that channel 5 has interviewed, or a celebrity. Take it or leave it and form your on opinion, if u agree or disagree

ha that's quite ironic that earlier you were talking about how you hate it when people conform to other's beliefs just to be popular or whatever, and now you just caved in to what someone else said.
