Posted  Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at 12:24 AM
Post 1 of 56
I was thinking about this the other day, so i thought i was ask the question. What bands/artists would you like to see release another album?

My picks:

My Bloody Valentine
Elliott Smith (an album was rumored to come out this year, but, alas...)
Captain Beefheart
The Interpreters
Ride

and of course, The Features (i would love to see an album)

I saw Elliott Smith play a show in May and he was so fucked up that nothing out of his mouth made any sense and he couldn't get through a single song. Someone had to come on stage and tell him to just stop playing. It made me sad and made me think it would be a while before he comes out with anything new, but I may eat my words.

I would also add Wreckx n' Effex to this list.

yeah, elliott has the lust for life.

the new Outkast is on my list, I'm eager even though I recently found out that the double cd will be composed of a solo album by each andre and big boi.

a new blur has me equally tempted and worried.

Hey etc, I think I must've been at the same show... from what I've heard, that was his last show in ages... he was escorted from the stage to a hospital, to rehab, or somesuch.

In any case, there's been much word on a new album this year, a 2-disc affair with one disc being labelled as a bonus disc so that Dreamworks doesn't charge a double album price. Should be fun.

Malkmus, Bjork, Radiohead, Weezer, and Beulah have all made announcements to some effect or another.

I'd love for the Shins and Circulatory System and the Essex Green to release new albums.

I read about Elliott's sad state last summer & thought it was weird and sad that he adamantly denied being back on the junk, when apparently it was so obvious that he was fucked up. He claimed his arm fell asleep on the plane or something? Anyway, I heard a recording of a January show of his in L.A. & he sounded lucid & good. That's when he said there would be a double album some time. But I don't think it's being released by Dreamworks- I read that they released him from his contract to let him release this album independently?

I read in Entertainment Weekly that a new Shins album should be out this summer. I also cannot wait for a Features album. Other than those two, I would like for all of those Album 5 demos to actually turn into a 5th Weezer album. I would also like for a new Oasis record that...I dunno...utilizes Gem and Andy more? Features less Liam songwriting? I don't know...I'm really looking forward to the new White Stripes and Strokes releases this year.

The Strokes, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Fiona Apple, Elliott Smith (the first three of which are actually scheduled to come out sooner rather than later) ... I'm sure there are others that aren't coming to me right now.

Of course a new Beatles Get Back Sessions compilation would be my dream. I almost bought a Yellow Dog disc set of the Get Back Sessions a few years ago but didn't. Maybe I made the right decision since they might release this newfound material.

And, of course, how could I forget the Eels activity... a new album in late spring plus the soundtrack to Levity, which seems to not have a release sad.gif

I'm content with just Malkmus over Pavement, although I've heard Pavement isn't completely out the question.

I would be interested in another BFF, but I think Ben needs to just move on and do his thing.

I've heard Far might make another record, that would be very cool.

To anyone who cares and hasn't heard yet:

Elephant has a scheduled US release date of April 1st. It is said that it will be a double album, and we will have our choice of six different album covers. The first single will be "Seven Nation Army". I've heard it and a few other songs already and liked it especially. I must say that I am looking forward to it.

www.matadorrecords.com still lists Pavement on the active roster instead of moving them to their "alumni" listing. Of course, they may just be doing that because they've had two "releases" within the past few months (S/E re-release and Slow Century DVD).

Malkmus, Bjork, Radiohead, Weezer, and Beulah have all made announcements to some effect or another.
I'm skeptical of Beulah's new album, because they said on their website that they weren't going to be as anal over this one as they have been over the previous two. Does this mean it will be like the first album, which has some of the most ill-prompted singing ever? I hope not, because I have a special place in my heart for Beulah.

On a separate note, I think that the Strokes, BRMC, and the Vue all have plans to release an album this year. The Vue were recently signed to RCA. Their previous albums aren't that great, but their show with BRMC at the Exit/In in late 2001 was very, very awesome. They covered VU's "I Can't Stand It" at the end of the show and completely kicked what was left of my ass. BRMC hadn't even played yet...

let’s pour a little out for the homies of the tremor control, may they rest in peace. how i’d be just as getty as a school girl to hear from them again. i actaully wish anyone from the elephant six collective would get off heroin/come out of hiding/leave the circus and lay down a record. i hear that jeff mangum is actively falling apart somewhere, and while i can understand how writing an entire album about the diary of anne frank wasn’t be the most uplifting project to date, i would sell my soul to the devil for another neutral milk hotel album.

on pavement: this band is my childhood, my bread and butter. but let’s all face it, they’re dead and maybe that’s for the best. somewhere around terror twilight, their management started (gasp) making them practice. they made steve put down the booze and actually sing. what was once hapless wreckage, melodic chaos, beautiful beastiality of a beat...it turned into over-produced, over-rehearsed, over-managed music that carried onto the malkmus solo album. the last i heard, they’re down for the count, but let’s not fret over this, let’s instead enjoy the wowee zowee and crooked rain years, remembering what it was like when a band could still be of full of shit and we loved it.

and for the love of surf rock, what happenned to man or astro-man? they used to put an album out every other five minutes. they used to play at the exit-in twice a week. ever since birdstuff started dating shannon wright, she’s put out two albums and he’s put out none. talk about being whipped. girls, let us not do this to our men. i for one need robots in my music.

lastly, i’m ready for some new lambchop. when it starts to warm up and gets to be porch-sitting weather, i better have a new album.

oh, and if i had a kid, i would like to buy them an album of smee and exliontamer reading stories. i hear someone’s going to see burma tommorrow and i’m simply green with envy.

just my thoughts. over and out.

with all of blightman's fancy recording equipment, i'm sure we could arrange this. just name a time & a place (and the stories you want us to read) and i'd be more than happy to make an album for you.

when i learn how to play the drums, me and ELT are forming a band, so maybe we can make a musical accompaniment to our narratives as well.

Nice.

Is there any way to tell which member wrote which song? I haven't found the liner notes to be too helpful. I think their most recent album suggests that they're each diverging from their previous sound. It works on some songs, but not for others.

As exliontamer suggested, I would love to hear another Broadcast album. I wish there could be another Neutral Milk Hotel album...Jeff Mangum is wandering around here in Athens, disgruntled. I wish I could hear what a Lush album would sound like these days. If Robin Guthrie and Liz Frazier would get over their differences, another Cocteau Twins album would be sweet.
Why would you do that?

Didn't one of the girls from Lush go on to form a group called "Sing Sing"? I believe Venus Hum (from Nashville) did a tour with them.

Do you have a Cocteau Twins album you'd recommend? I have "Heaven or Las Vegas" and I've heard a bunch of other stuff by them, but I guess I'd like to make sure the whole album is good before buying it. Me & exliontamer are really curious about "Garlands" & I was about to buy it on Friday night, but changed my mind.

Oh yeah, if anyone is interested, new Broadcast EP out on May 5 through warp records & full length out in mid-August (followed by a US tour). Yippee.

The closest broadcast will get to us is new york city in may. Tickets go on sale later this month I think if you're interested. I forget the club, but I know they sell their tickets online and you can figure it out from the band's tour date list on warp's webpage.
You can do the wiki if you want to,
you can leave your friends behind.

I can't remember what "Garlands" sounds like. I know for sure that "Four Calendar Cafe" is a wonderful album, and so is "Blue Knell Toll." Also, the "Otherness" EP is excellent...it's a seefeel remix of some of their stuff and it's really, really, really good. "Milk and Kisses" isn't that great. I'd highly recommend the other three, though....oh yeah, and chopped liver and I were discussing that another Spiritualized album would have been nice, and one from Ugly Duckling as well.

I think Emma Anderson from Lush is in Sing Sing. Miki Berenyi is doing solo stuff last I heard. I just wish they'd form back with the other two guys they were with. I loved their harmonizing voices. I loved their trippy guitars. I loved the fact that it was a girl band with 2 girls actually backing the band, and doing a great job of it. I want something like "Gala" "split" or "spooky," and I know it'll just never happen. sad.gif

This talk of a Broadcast tour has made me pull out my "work and nonwork" album...listening to it makes me wish I could have heard Parrish better the other nite at blue cats. Parrish needs more of a spotlight, anyway. His contribution to the band was one of the first things that drew me to the features in the first place. A Broadcast cover would rock...it would totally fit their style, and give Parrish an opportunity to show off.
