Who's goin to this shindig? I've heard good things about the Rugs, don't care for Aireline, and most of us know about DND. PaulFreaksMeOut, Brother Love, and I have our tickets. Do you?

i'm going. don't forget, tyler james is playing too. he's really good. i saw him at 12@12th a few months ago and then i had been hoping to see him around town playing. i thought he dropped off the face of the earth, but then i saw him at the features most recent exit/in show and then he sat right behind me at coldplay last week and he is really good. everyone should come to hear him; he's going first. i was really impressed with him, i think De Novo Dahl fans will really like him. are you guys using the boscos' discount beforehand? rolleyes.gif

ok well, assuming that you got your ticket from De Novo Dahl or someone, it should have a 15% off boscos ticket thing on the back of it or something. it's a little green card. anyway, if you don't have it, then i'm guessing you bought it at the belcourt or somewhere else. but if a lot of people are going, i don't see how it would be a problem to pass the little card around. i don't know. do you have a different ticket?

My ticket is from a DND representative, but I'm not getting it from them until tomorrow. I am sure that it will have the discount on it. Mmm, Boscos is soooo good, yet soooo expensive...

All tickets for the show should say not only that you get 15% off food and drinks at Bosco's, but also free coffee at Fido's. And that's whether you get them from a band member or from Belcourt. Fun.

A question: what time is De Novo Dahl playing? I hate to be a dick and just go to see them and no one else, but Mike and I are going to the hockey game that night.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

i dont know what time they're playing, but i do know that they are third in the lineup. it's tyler james, then the rugs, then DND then aireline. i think aireline shoudl go before DND. anyway, i'm sure foldsfan could tell you.

I have only seen one half of a DND concert and that was at The End last December. I am anxious to see them again, since I only payed attention to the kick-ass guitar player with curly hair and the omnichord girl. I have never heard a negative comment about them, so I figure it to be a good show. The same goes for The Rugs and that Tyler James guy that you spoke of. I'm excited!

yeah, that curly headed guitar player is derek. i want him to be my best friend wink.gif see, i really didn't like the rugs, but that may be because of the atmosphere in which i saw them. i saw them at the nmc2 thing after i saw DND and the Bees, who are one of my other nashville favorites. ( i wish they would play more too.) anyway, both of them were so wonderful, and really fit well together, but then the rugs were such a drastic change in sound and style that i wasn't too fond of them and i left after a few songs. hopefully it was just that time. cause i am definitely going to see tyler james, and so i'm figuring i'll just stay and listen to all of them.

I'm seriously considering this, but I'm having a hard time finding folks to go with. Everybody's either going to the game, going out drinking, or layed up in bed with a bruised ass (get well soon, Sina). If all else fails, I'll probably suck it up and go solo.

Oh and it's my goal tonight to meet Teddy Ruxpin. I'll be wearing a green and navy striped polo and khaki pants, Teddy.

you should come to boscos' beforehand, there will be some people there. it'll be fun. i mean, i know you don't know me, but messageboard members should all be friends. and help each other out.
and for some reason, i believe teddy is definitely a member of De Novo Dahl. my favorite one, in fact.... wink.gif

Hm, Featuresgirl, you may be right, I haven't thought about it yet, but I think it's him. I just realized who the Preds are playing tonight, and it's going to be a GREAT game. The sets are about 35 minutes a piece, so I would think you'd be able to get there by the time De Novo Dahl is playing, or maybe even before.

This show was awesome!!! I only caught about half of Tyler James and Co., but they were DAMN good. He's not only got a great pop voice, but he's a top notch songwriter. Was anyone else getting a Ben Kweller vibe?

That was possibly my favorite De Novo Dahl set to date. It was understandably short, but man that was SOLID! Was the "Be Your Man" song a new one? I definitely don't remember that one from the 6 or 7 shows I've seen.

I didn't care for the belcourt at first, but I eventually learned that standing in the front feels just like most other venues. Plus, the acoustics were pretty sweet.

i think the "Be Your Man" song debuted at their 12th and porter show a couple weeks ago. It was good then, and even better last night. Yeah, I really like Tyler James. And that's the same thing I noticed about him -- his songwriting is impeccable. he's playing at the belmont songwriters showcase soon. the entire band is pretty flawless. most dummers besides rollum usually annoy me, but that drummer didn't. it was a very good showcase. me happy. rolleyes.gif

So I had no problem making it in time to see De Novo Dahl, and I'm glad about that.

Every time I've been to see music at the Belcourt, folks are sitting down. And that's okay, but I figured since this was more of a rock show, that wouldn't be the case. I was wrong, but there were people standing up front anyway, so that's where I went. And yes, featuresgirl, it was like I would imagine heaven to be. I love this band so much, and their music does just make me happy, even moreso than other music that I like, you know? I know that not all of the songs are "happy," but there is just a certain indescribible something, a certain chemistry in this band that is inspiring and fills me with hope. Anyway, I enjoyed myself, and I can't wait to hear their EP.

yeah, i think one of the best things is the fact that they just all seem so relaxed and loose, and it's so funny when they do something silly or catch each other's eyes when they're playing and they can't help but laugh. i dunno, it's just really great.

no one stood up until DND. i think most of the kids in the 1st/2nd rows were their friends already. i love De Novo Dahl. i remember last april when they played exit/in with the features, and i was not impressed at all. then i found out they had only been together a couple of months. they've come a long way, baby.

I saw Tyler about a year and a half ago in a club house around Belmont, and I loved it even then. They have gotten a lot better since then, of course, and the strings were a nice addition. The only things I liked better about the first time I saw him, was that it was small and initmate and Tyler's voice cracked a lot more, which I thought added something good.

Did you get to talk to Teddy?

The first few times I saw DND, it was as a duo-acoustic thing with "vovo" and "jesperanza" (twice at the Basement I think and once at Uptown Mix). I thought they were very, very talented singers, but their music just wasn't that inspiring to me (except for "Memphis"). It took seeing the full band for the first time about a year ago with everybody rocking out for me to really get into it.

Not only does it look like they're always having a good time (almost to the point that sometimes I wonder if they're faking it), but it seems like everyone of them is an individual with his/her own style. There's a somewhat punky bass player, brit-rock drummer, pretty boy keyboardist, hippie acoustic guitarist, sexy(!) percussionist/omnicordist, and teddy-bear sweet lead guitarist. Man, they REALLY need to get some action figures. That would be SWEET.

aww, i wanna be friends with teddy. i talked to him before at the DND/features show in the fall, but it was really loud in there and then i talked to him later cause i was selling stuff for the features. but i'm such a wuss sad.gif

i've talked to him a few times, but probably not to the extent where he would remember who i was. this sounds weird, i feel like a stalker or something. (no offense, SOS) my friend knows his sister too, but alas, we will probably never be friends. i'm gonna stop talking now.

De Novo Dahl was excellent last night. However, eating yesterday might've help as I consumed way too many PBRs. Is anyone else out there really digging "Pushbuttons"? It certainly is one of Mark's best songs in my opinion. It was one of the best shows I've seen recently. Well, except the 10 High in Atlanta...well...ah sod it. They're all good. I know the rest of the band are writing material and I really look forward to them polishing it and playing it out live.

Tyler was excellent as was the rest of the band. Glad to see some bands out there utilizing instruments such as cello and violin. Get a flautest and they'll be spot on. I love discovering a new group to be excited about going to see on a local level. I'll be planning to go see them when they play again.

Actually, I've managed with help to get them hooked into a show with De Novo Dahl at the Slow Bar for May 31. I've actually organized a whole weekend around it where all my friends from the Belle & Sebastian Bowlie Forum (a forum set up exactly like this one) will be flying in for a Nashville meetup coming from London to California and everywhere in between. We have another band almost confirmed for this show as well. So if you run into a load of Brits at a De Novo show, this will be it.

Also, anyone going to see the Aislers Set at The Slowbar Wednesday? ahhh..I'll start another thread about that. Good seeing you again Joe Colvert:)

Ummm..at the 10-High? I was at the De Novo Dahl show the week before at the 10 High but I wasn't at the Features Show there. But that does sound like three things I'd talk about...not so much Oasis these days. I know that out of going to Features shows steadily since 95 that I know some of you guys. I'm just not sure who you are on here. Like I'm sure Ryan, Luke, Mr. Colvert and others are here...just don't know who you are..hmmmmmmm

Oh, by the way..info on this Nashville Bowlie Meetup is here..feel free to nose around The Bowlie site...I think you'll find both boards are on the same wavelength...

Okay, I'm sorry I wasn't clear. What I meant to say is that, before the DND show at the Belcourt monday night, Ben and I were talking to a guy about the shows he'd seen in Atlanta over the past few years. I was assuming that was you (mostly due to the Belle and Sebastian reference).

Speaking of B&S, I saw Storytelling last night. It was no Happiness, but it was pretty good.

Ah yes! That was me! I hope I was congenial. Like I said I drank way too much on an empty stomach and was making a bit of a goof out of myself. Be sure and come over and say Hi again at an upcoming DND or Features show...my friend Chris (who I met through Bowlie) and I are always lurking over in the corner looking at the floor...heh

Yeah, I was a bit displeased with Storytelling (the movie) overall. It's been several months since I saw it but I enjoyed the soundtrack much more than the movie...naturally...
