because they are awesome, are influenced by P-Funk, and are original for the most part. they don't take some 70's or 80's song and just change the lyrics to it. gotta love their clothes and talking owls are always cool.

what time is this show?

I think it's at 8pm...but I'm not entirely sure. Cornershop is opening- I've heard good & bad things about them, but I've never heard them myself.

Hey Lauren, where did you hear that Cornershop was opening? The B&S website has them listed as opening for the 4/30 show, but all it says for Atlanta is 'with special guests The Great Lakes'. That's not to say Cornershop won't be there too, I just haven't seen/heard that anywhere...

By the way, for anyone who hasn't been there before, the Tabernacle is easily one of, if not the coolest venue in the South.

I think I read it on a review of a recent B&S show on audiogalaxy.com. I'd bet that the website is probably more accurate than audiogalaxy...and the Great Lakes site confirms that they're playing- so, freezetag, your life probably has meaning once again : ) I for one am more excited that an Elephant 6 band will be opening, but like I said I've never heard Cornershop

they (cornershop) had that song 'brim full of asha' a few years ago. it never got big or anything, but it was a pretty memorable song with a neat video.

I saw them last night in Chicago. The opening band, Slumber Party, who I believe was booked just for the one show, was not my thing. Otherwise it was awesome. They closed with a cover of 'The Boys are Back in Town.' Enough said. Really cool lights and they brought up a fan that proposed to his girlfriend on stage and then played 'Judy and the Dream of Horses' for them. I hope you all have fun in ATL!

i thought about going to the show, but i haven't liked anything they've done since 'arab stap' (and there's only a few songs on that one that i like). stuart murdoch should be more nazi-ish with his band mates and not let them highlight any of their songs on b&s albums. that's why 'sinister' is the only good album they ever released. isobel campbell should've followed stuart david's example and left the group to persue other interests (in her case, the horrible gentle waves; looper's not that bad though).

5 worthwhile b&s songs:
get me away from here i'm dying
seeing other people
stars of track & field
a summer wasting
dirty dream number 2

i'm up for the challenge if any of you have a bone to pick with my b&s tirade smile.gif

All will be settled for me tomorrow night in ATL since I probably don't know near enough about B&S. Can't wait for the suites and treats either. My mom, dad, and sister will also be in town for the Paul McCartney show, guess they couldn't get four tickets.

i think people that got into b&s when '...sinister' was out have grown tired of them. most people started liking them when '....arab strap' came out. that's the last album i actually listened to. i thought murdoch's lyrics were really cool. murdoch found a formula, the band hasn't made any progression(they've only managed to get worse), and the other songwriters make everything sound jumbled. of course, any band that has a line like, 'and he remembers roxy music back in '72', has(had) some worth.

sinister is by far the best b&s album, but i still like arab strap minus 'is it wicked not to care?'(ghastly) and 'seymour stein'.  the other songs are pretty good....dirty dream no.2 being the best one out of them all.  the only new song i've heard was the one they played on conan o'brien and it was ok, nothing too special. (most of you guys probably didn't see this unless you taped it...it was a features show night.)
It's not my fault!

'...Sinister' is definitely their best album.

Now I have seen them live and dug it. Next step, buy albums. Suggestions anyone? I personally enjoyed the last half of the set rather than the first, if that helps at all to explain my tastes to anyone who may have been at the show. I mark half way to be right around the Sweet Home cover, that's right, Sweet Home Alabama with audience participation.

I thought the show was excellent, especially Legal Man. I certainly could have done without Sweet Home Alabama, though. It took for...ev...er! And I'm not even going to bother discussing the tramps that were up there 'singing' it.

what's up with bands covering songs like that? when i saw built to spill last year in atlanta, they covered 'freebird.' fucking freebird! not even built to spill could make that song tolerable.

'Freebird' is by far the most significant contribution to the Western Civiliazation in the last 250 years. It has had more influence on an entire generation of poets, engineers, and scientists than anything else that man has invented, written, or created.

Yeah, it's not even cool to play it as a joke.

Tom, I believe what you meant to say is: It has had more influence on an entire generation of redneck sports (cock fighting, monster truck rallys, imbreeding, etc...) than anything else that man has invented, written, or created.

things that make living in the south a treat: warm weather and porch swings, john deere baseball caps, grits and cornbread, boys who eat sunflower seeds, people who talk slow, houses with backyards, big trucks, fireworks superstores, wrestling fans

things that make living in the south lame: the first response for a cover request always being 'sweet home alabama' or 'freebird'

this was definitely the low point in the show, but it was on the whole amazing. a road trip for the record books.

I thought it was really funny, especially when the girl who sang it started 'freeing the bird' on all the booing fans.

my thoughts of the show
1. it was great to just see b&s live
2. the show was solid even though Isobel was not there but I found out she went home because she was worn out (at least that's what her excuse was)
3. the sweet home alabama thing was cool in the sense that no other band would ask the audience for a request and then play it by bringing someone from the audience on stage to sing the song - Stuart did not seem to want to play this song and afterwards said that they just play the first song requested other than that the girls that sang this song were just idiots enough said
4. it was great to see freezetag and neuboy show up unexpectedly and it was nice to meet lauren
5. overall the show was a fun time spent with lots of friends and we saw Belle and Sebastian something many of us had been waiting years for
6. and the hotel experience was no so bad either (despite the junkie) and then to end it all with a trip to the varsity

I give this road trip a B+

I'm sorry I missed the firework, but it was fun to meet all of you. And I really enjoyed the Jesco impersonation. The venue was fantastic. The hoochies picked to sing Sweet Home Alabama were so bad that it almost seemed staged- they looked more like Winger groupies than the typical B&S crowd. Too bad they didn't hear the 'Care of Cell 44' request made earlier in the show.

B&S was an adventure not to soon be forgotten, One of the few worhtwhile un-Features shows ill see this summer if not this year. Spiritualized may have been a tighter show but the overall B&S experience was more amazing, i got to meet stuart and hang out for awhile. It was Fan-f-ing-tastic, truly i can only think of one show ive seen that was more entertaining...
(oh yeah, god save modern rock songs as well)
