I'm just wondering how many of y'all will be going to the show tomorrow night. From what I hear, sinasugarsick, Keith, foldsfan (duh), Ben Matlock, and Sideponytails all plan on going. Oh, and me, too.

I just read that his new EP is available online, so I'm hoping to pick up a copy at the show. Also, for those who haven't seen Rich Creamy Paint, give 'em a listen-- but only if you dig sappy, syrupy pop rock like I do.

Rich Creamy Paint is playing? Are they still around? They're like the Freddie Krueger of Nashville's music scene - every time you're sure they're dead, they reappear. I have their first album and I love it, especially "A.D.D."

Right now I am home and really sick, but I'm hoping I get better so I can go to this, because it's gonna be completely off the hook.

Me Me Me Me Me.
Very excited about it. JamieCarroll, you must be there tomorrow. I won't be there until about 8:30, how am I going to find everyone if the Beacon of the Board isn't there towering over everyone? You're like a lighthouse in a sea of the sloshed.

That, and you may be the only one there besides SPT who will be singing along with me. Looking forward to seeing all of you there and hopefully picking up the first of the EP trilogy.

I want to go, but I'd be having to stand outside of the place, but I might come anyways

What a perfect description
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

wow.. i can't believe anyone told you that. His shows always include a lot of audience participation and he's great at getting the crowd excited... I've loved every time I've seen him.

The show was amazing. I've seen him in some form or another 6 times now since 1997 and he has never let me down. I especially enjoyed watching his kids dance to his music behind the stage. I'm a sucker for that stuff...

I like Ben Folds' songs for the most part, but I was thinking/wishing he was going to have a band. I don't like when dudes that are normally in bands play their songs just on acoustic guitar. In this case, I don't like hearing Ben Folds Five songs just on piano. I like drums and bass, what can I say. I still miss the 5.

We all do, Keith. We all do. Having the audience fill in for backing vocals (and the ocassional trumpet/saxophone section) can only last for so long.

Speaking of bass, did you notice that not one of the three bands last night used one? I thought they all sounded pretty good despite the fact.

I thought it was awesome how he got the crowd to do that, it actually worked very well, I was impressed

But Keith, there were bass and drums playing during Ben Folds' set. The bass and drums of the heart, man.

I was not there. I decided that if I was going to make it through tonight, I needed a great night's sleep. So I got one. It makes me feel not so bad about missing it to know that Folds did not have a band. I've seen him with and without a band, and with is much cooler.

Can someone please give a report on Rich Creamy Paint and on Fleming & John?

Rich Creamy Paint was happy and starry-eyed as always. They started with "A.D.D." and ended with "You're a 10". The crowd slowly warmed up to them. As much as I enjoyed the set, I think only playing 30 minutes was a good idea. There were many rabid Ben Folds fans in attendance already.

F&J seemed to have the crowd in the palms of their hands. They were stripped down to Fleming on vocals (w/ some flute, tambourine, and rainstick for good measure), John on guitars (he used what I think is called a sustain pedal a few times to keep the guitar going so he could play a horn or something like that), and Fleming's brother (who I think could be a stand-in for a younger/plumper Robert DeNiro-- right down to the mole) on drums. They sounded excellent and as always the crowd was wowed by her classically trained voice. They played all the hits like "I'm not Afraid" (the opener), "Rain All Day", "Ugly Girl", "Delusions of Grandeur", "Love Songs", and that one hippie song about peace and love and stuff to end the set.

I was severly dissapointed to see that with all the mutual respect and love for the other bands-- there was no collaborative effort whatsoever. When BFF played at the Ryman, F&J surprised us by adding vocals and horns to "Don't Change Your Plans" (possibly my current favorite BFF song). I was really hoping to see something like that again. Plus, we got no Emaline nor Underground. Oh well, it was still 100% awesome.

Was RCP a full band? I know Rich fired the original lineup en masse. Does he have a new band or is it just he and his wife?

Hmmm...no bass player. Do you know who I miss? That original bass player in Fleming & John. You know which one I'm talking about - the really tall and thin guy with the long hair and beard. He played an Explorer bass (much like Roger Dabbs') with a rainbow strap. I can't remember whether he was a good bass player or not, but he sure looked cool.

RCP had a drummer with a very modest kit. He looked to be in his mid-twenties and had a scraggly beard.

The themes of the evening were obviously 1) family and friends and 2) minimalism.
