while we're on the subject of highly anticipated releases of 2003, we might as well compile our favorite albums from 2003 so far......

1. Pig Lib- Stephen Malkmus
2. Sumday- Grandaddy
3. Fever to Tell- Yeah Yeah Yeahs
4. Summer Sun- Yo La Tengo
5. Electric Version- The New Pornographers
6. All Around- Oranges Band
7. Give Up- Postal Service
8. Microminiature Love- Michael Yonkers Band
9. ABC Music- Stereolab (BBC Sessions)
10. More Parts Per Million- The Thermals

Biggest Disappointment: Hail to the Thief- Radiohead

I seriously don't think I've bought 10 albums that were released in 2003. The best things that I have heard this year areThink Tank, De Novo Dahl's EP, the New Pornographers album, Elephant, and the new Madlib.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Ditto.

White Stripes - Elephant, DND EP. I can't think of any others, though Token has been buying lots of new records, but I haven't been really listening. I got the new Fluid Ounces record, but it will not be a 2003 release (most likely).

I have found some older CDs lately that are good.

In addition to these, I'll add Radiohead (I was not disappointed at all), White Stripes, Damone's new one, and the De Novo Dahl and Imaginary Baseball League EPs.

I can't remember if Forget Cassettes released their album late last year or early this year. It would be high on this list of it's the latter.

Biggest Disappointment: Deftones

Well, all I can add are "Built On Squares" by Starlight Mints and "Welcome to the Monkey House" by the Dandy Warhols. So far, "Elephant" is definitely the best of the year. Hands down.

But I'm sure "Chutes Too Narrow" and the untitled Strokes album will give it a run for its money, I hope.

Is this sold at Tower? I was under the impression that it was, but last time I went there I couldn't find it.

After attending their last show, I would really like to buy the album (I know I can order it off their website).

zwan - mary star of the sea
steve burns - songs for dust mites

i haven't really bought too many new albums. these two are quite fantastic. when the year is over i'll be able to make a clear assessment of what i thought were the best of the year.
We have about 1500 songs.....all of them good!

You can get it from the nice folks at CD Warehouse on 21st Ave. for $12 or $13 I think. Or better yet you can wait and buy one straight from the band a week from tonight at the Slow Bar.

Starting work again sucks royally because it means no more Thursday night shows. Guess I'll just have to drop by CD Warehouse sometime soon.

Or what about the new Beyonce CD? Don't lie.

i saw her new video, and as a huge fan of crazy in love, i must say that i thought it was hotter. the song isnt better [im not a big sean paul fan], but its good. i really enjoyed the wardrobe in the crazy in love video, and she has a great bathing suit in this one, but you cant see it so much. all of this considered, i give it an 8.

"Crazy in Love" rules. I normally don't care for Beyonce or Destiny's Child, but that song is just, well, probably the best song I've heard on the radio this summer.

i still like elephant, and even though it is getting a bit old, i'd still put it on my list.... after watching the yeah yeah yeahs again last night and downloading some of their music,,, i've decided i'm not a big fan.

crazy in love is awesome!!! I gotta go with jc on this one. for some reason i really like this song.

I always try and predict which bands will be the ones to go quickly in and then out of style. I always thought that White Stripes feed to much on the novelty to last. Interesting to hear that you're tired of it.

cancelling a few select concerts doesn't do much to boost my opnion of their music either. i know this is extremely unfair, but its the truth. i kinda got ticked at them, and the disgust/anger just trickled down into their music i guess.

I'll see your 14 hours devoted and raise you an hour and a half... After you dropped me off at my car, it broke down 1.5 miles from my house. I made the run there in about 12 minutes, though. 'Twas worth it all.

Let me tell you about it.

When I made that post, it was actually just wishful thinking. All I knew was that Radiohead was playing at Red Rocks and that I had to somehow go. We called and tried to get tickets, but of course the show was sold out. But we (my friend Chi Chi and I) decided to just get a bunch of cash and drive out to Red Rocks and try to buy scalped tickets. Well, after literally about a 2 mile walk from the car to the entrance, we learned that Red Rocks has a strict no scalping policy, so there were no scalpers there to buy tickets from. And there were about 20 other people hanging out at the entrance looking for tickets. After waiting for about 45 minutes (and missing half of the Jicks' set), we were about ready to cut our losses and go back to Denver. But just then, this couple walks up to us (out of all of the people hanging out) and asks, "Can we borrow a cell phone to call our friends? We have these two extra tickets and we're trying to find someone to use them." Of course we said that we'd take them and asked how much they wanted. They said that "twenty bucks for the pair ought to do it...just to cover our beer for the night." They had gotten the tickets for free. So (already pissing our pants in shock and excitement) we looked at the tickets to see where they were...and they were 4th row center. So um, yeah we had pretty good seats...closer than I usually am at Features shows. The weather was perfect, the venue was unbelievable, Radiohead was really really good, Jonny Greenwood is the most talented musician/manipulator of technology I have ever seen. All in all, it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
