I thought this was in order, plus I've been longing for some blur discussion.
Why would you do that?

In my opinion, Parklife is probably their best album, with Great Escape coming in second. I haven't heard Leisure or Modern Life is Rubbish, but I don't think I'm missing too much, from what I've heard. One aspect of their music that I enjoy is the story telling of a particular character, as in Tracy Jacks or Mr. Robinson's Quango. Damon Albarn, having some background in acting, has said that he usually pictures himself as someone else when he's performing.

I voted for The Great Escape.

For me, Blur's catalog is like a pyramid. Leisure is fair, MLiR is good, Parklife is great, The Great Escape is one of the best albums ever made. Then we start to down: Blur is great, 13 is good...I guess that means that the next album will be fair...after that, who knows. Maybe we'll start ascending again.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I had to bring back deevol for a sec on this one in order to vote for both great escape and parklife, because i've never been able to decide that I like one more than the other.

What's "Blur"?

Oh wait... nevermind. They're the guys who sing that song about Tomas Vokoun that's played at the Predators' games. Which album is that song on?

Not Oasis.

I voted "Best of" because I've always found Blur albums to be a highly inconsistent. I'm sure they have enough halfway decent songs to make a respectable Greatest Hits album, though.

I have nothing to back this up.

I didn't mean my list was in chronological order, but that is true. I meant it was necessary that we discuss this.
Why would you do that?

parklife is my consistent favorite. it has no respect for genres and still manages to be cohesive. i'm always torn between mlir, parklife, and the great escape though. that reminds me that i picked up the great escape and ween's chocolate and cheese on the same day. that was a great day.

Modern Life is Rubbish, of course. I love the version of "For Tommorrow" on that album. It's much better than one on Best of. But i do like The Great Escape, too. wink.gif Can I split my vote?

Aaagh! You haven't even heard Modern Life and yet you're bashing it. Watch it chief, or an animated round of drop-kicking may commence.

I'll be crucified for this, but I voted for the self-titled album. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing 'cause it's the one that turned me on to those guys, and I know it was there attempt to be "indie" or whatever, but I just like the noisy, fucked-up quality of it. "Death of a Party" defies categorization, "Essex Dogs" is totally strange (I can do without the spoken word thing, but the music is unbelievable), "Country Sad Ballad Man" is priceless. I think every song is a gem. Honestly I find the tinny, glossy, Brit-pop production of the albums prior to this a bit annoying, though they're all great (though Leisure kind of blows). Honestly, I still haven't heard the Great Escape. Exliontamer or Jamie Carroll should burn us a copy. Fire away.

i absolutely love parklife. trouble in the message center, clover over dover, and magic america are some of my favorite songs on it. the great escape is second, blur and 13 are pretty good as well, and mlir has a really cool cover.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

I think that the self-titled album would rank number two on my list of favorite blur albums. it's a really good album. "M.O.R." is a great song. "I'm just a killer for your love" is another great song on that album.

Will do, sir. But you won't like it. It's too easy.

Can I interject here that Graham Coxon is my favorite guitar player of aLL time? His playing hurts me, but it's like a good hurt. Other favorites: the EDGE, Greg Brown, Kurt Cobain, Jonny Greenwood.
