I was listening to "Singles Going Steady" by the Buzzcocks the other day and I decided to ask the question: Who is the greatest punk Band/Artist?
I, Myself, am extremely torn by this question. So many good choices, only one vote.

my "other" choice is richard hell. he invented punk. he was also a part of television and the heartbreakers. pere ubu should be up there , as well.

You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

The only artists on that list that were truly "punk" in my opinion are the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, the Clash (early on), and the Buzzcocks. Television, Costello, the Talking Heads, and Wire (as well as Pere Ubu) had a sound that definitely EVOLVED from punk music (among other genres), but I wouldn't call those artists "punk."

While Elvis Costello is not really punk, he is my favorite on that list, especially when accompanied by the attractions.

While Elvis Costello is the love of my life and I want to marry him. I do not consider him punk. I consider him a genius but not quite punk. Oh well... he still gets my vote and love!!
