TOPIC: Big fans of the features, pushing others away
Posted  Monday, March 10, 2003 at 11:38 PM
Post 1 of 53
I am a first time viewer of the features as of 3/08/03. And I gotta say, pretty good band. I had a few problems with my experience though...

I found some of the "features groupies" to be pretty annoying and rude. I was actually really intrigued by the opening band with violins even though they weren't anything special. They already have royalties with nickel creek and are probably better off in the business than the features would ever be. I heard some hardcore "The Features" fans say "Wow, they should go eat a bag of cock." another saying "no, they should eat about 2 or 3 bags of cock.". Please tell me you aren't in 5th grade or something seriously, because stupid shit like that disrespects you and your so called band that you religiously follow. And when standing at the front it was like a few of you had 'a spot', and actually rudely said "um, you can go stand over there" like it was your fucking spot or something. Stupid people like you piss me off. Luckily it didn't ruin anyone's night or anything because of your attitude, especially the guy up front in the ugly ass blue sweater.

Anyways, i thought the second band was a little wack at times, but some of your comments about them? please. Learn a little about music genre before you go generalizing bands like you do on this site. But for the future, tone down the attitude or you'll make the atmosphere for The Features really sucky. If you are true fans you'd be promoting shit for them instead of being all stuck up about them and proving how much shit you know. Please get a life, and get a reality check people

hi. excuse me? did you honestly just join this message board to bitch? who needs a life? I'm sorry if your features experience was so shitty. maybe you too should buy some cooler shoes and you can be accepted into our crowd. or maybe you should spend less time paying attention to what other people say and do and more attention should be spent on the music. we're all there for the music. and for the record, i think YOUR blue sweater is ugly. neener neener neener.
thank you for being a friend.

Some of us aren't true fans. We (not me in this instance, but some of us) are too busy driving 200 miles to see a band-- even though they play in our hometown every couple weeks-- to do as much "promoting shit" as we should.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Of course I wanted to bitch. I hate psycho freaks like you who think your all bad. If I wasn't high I probably would have busted you right in your face for fun. I do listen to the music, but I was making a point that kikes like you fuckin ruin shit for people like me. And if you listened to what I was actually saying, you would have responded with something about your knowledge of musical genre that you don't have at all obviously. And I just wanted to get a rise out of you people to have something to laugh at when I got bored tonight. Your pitiful responses amuse me. Also, that first thing wasn't directed at everybody, just a certain few - didn't mean to make it seem like I was talking about 'the whole crowd'

That sweater's not ugly!

And your goatee made me want to hurl.

Finally and most importantly...i believe someone just ordered a double-order bag of dicks and his name may be joe and he may go to UT. But seriously for a moment...young one, what to do? You have just entered a haven for musical snobs and elitists who believe that they as individuals know everything about music. Did you not pick up on that from our presence at the show? Maybe you will figure this out once a couple of my favorite people read your ignorant posts. Until then, go on trying to suck your own cock while listening to your favorite DMB album; and maybe one day, you too can get royalties for playing like Nickel Creek.

Oh and Keith...I must ask you this one favor. Please put this bitch in his place.

Oh, two more things. I think this kid was with "Bowl of Fire" (Andy?) and wore some really fucked up ugly UT hat and had a goatee. I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

And two, the sweater is a solid dark color of blue, knit, and very pretty. I don't know what the fuck makes you think it was ugly. But then again, you were wearing a UT hat...

Why do people think it's okay to just go join a message board for the sole purpose of criticizing a band and/or its fans? I don't go join message boards of opening bands I've seen just because I don't like the way their followers are acting at shows. It's one thing to spend time on a message board so that you can talk to people you share interests with, but it's another to waste your time talking to people that you have no hopes of being acquainted with.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

After having a shitty night at work, I would love to comment here. It will help me vent.
Let me just reinforce what Keith has said. We DROVE to see our band. We are DEDICATED fans.
And, I would like to know how the fuck we generalize bands here. When a band is decent in their own right and some of us just don't like them, then we state that. But, when a band sucks, we state that as well. Most of us don't mean that they suck according just our own individual tastes, but they suck when it comes to putting the music together. We aren't harping on a band, b/c we don't like the genre. Give me a fucking break. That accusation is just offensive. It actually reminds me a lot of people around here who love Creed and try to defend it.
To back up Sexy Sadie, why in the world would you want to join "just to get a rise out of you people"? While I am writing this, I am not angry. I'm just confused. Why would anyone want to do that? How can that be fun or amusing?
And, might I add that you used the word "wack" and "busted" (to refer to hitting someone in the face), and you said that you were "high", which directly leads me to the conclusion that your thoughts are irrelevant from here on out.
Oh, and The Features aren't just pretty good. They are fucking awesome; they are a force to be reckoned with. And, don't waste your time getting on here and bashing fans of the band they love. Go support whatever you want, but don't try to rain our Features-Lovin' parade. Thanks.

Is it just me or does that make zero sense? We don't know anything about music genres, yet we are always proving how much "shit" we know?

i'm pretty sure i know who this is- if i'm wrong please correct me. You were in one of my classes (McLellan?). To tell you the truth, i was surprised to see you. Somebody told me you were deathly ill or something, and that's why you stopped coming to class. Anyways, the people on this board drive throughout the night, sleep in their cars, and miss classes to see this band. They're insane about them. I think they have a right to complain about craptastic music on their own message board, and if they state their opinion about the bands at the venue itself, who cares besides you? If you talked trash about the features, I'm sure the fans wouldn't give a shit.

So why not drop the whole thing?

I could tell immediately from your post that you were full of nothing but poopoo, but the "kike" comment? What the hell? You're giving us shit about not liking a band b/c they were silly and full of themselves, and you're making racist comments? Where's the perspective here?

And I liked richarddawson's sweater, and wholeheartedly agree that one should not presume to make fashion judgments when one is wearing anything with Volunteer orange, no matter how high you are.
Why would you do that?

this is just irrelevant.

we drove over 3 hours to see a band that we know and love. while we are not driving three hours, we do our part by doing chalkings and hanging up flyers for the features. we get nothing in return except the satisfaction of helping out one of the best bands that is around today. im sure that many many bands would be overjoyed to have as many devoted fans as the features do who are willing to sacrifice their time to help out such an amazing band.....

good call, bro. its like this time i was in the record store and this guy beside me wanted to buy a linkin park record. and i was like, "dude, you can't buy that record. that band sucks." but at the time i was holding a copy of "slow deep and hard" by type o negative that i was going to buy for my scary ass metal boyfriend. so everything i said was completely irrelavnt.

or this one time, i set out to buy sunny day real estate's diary and the guy in the store wouldn't sell it to me but he was listening to meredith brooks so i didn't really care.

Okay, UTJoeman, I guess I can see your point. But to come on this message board and just start slagging people off and calling names is not the way to go about changing things. Now you've just made everyone angry at you, and no one will ever listen to anything intelligent that you might have to say on this or any other subject. You enjoyed the Features, and that's great. Why not start off talking about that, then gently move to what you didn't like later. As my grandfather always said, you'll catch more flies with honey.

Yes, we here at thefeatures.com can be vicious and cruel to opening bands sometimes, and that makes me sad when I really think about it. Because as fans, like it or not, we really are representing the Features here and at the shows. Keith mentioned to me the other night that the guys from Senryu said to him, "Yeah, the Features are cool, but their fans are jerks," or something to that effect. I've been as guilty as anyone else, but personally, I am trying to be kinder these days. I don't want Features fans to have a nasty reputation. At the same time, though, I don't want this to be a society where people can't say what they think. There's a balance somewhere, and I know we'll find it..

Finally, UTJoeman, I have nothing but scorn for your racist remarks. There's no defending what you said. LOVE, Joeman, is what you want. More LOVE.

It's kinda funny that I never knew this thread existed. Steve, the ugly guy with the goatee and UT hat, was a classmate of mine who has since dropped out. UTJoeman was his roommate. I brought them along to hopefully turn them on to The Features. I wasn't around for most of what he was bitching about, but I do remember the bag of dicks comments, and I have to say that 5th grade humor can be fucking hi-larious.

I feel more than partly responsible for all this. I'll try not to bring complete assholes to shows in the future. My apologies.
