has anybody heard about this year's lineup? well it tooks like they are trying to expand from strict hippie jamdon and get in some different sounds. this year boasts, among other:

neil young & crazy horse
flaming lips
sonic youth
tortoise
ben kweller
polyphonic spree
the roots
james fucking brown
kid koala
mix master mike
the funky meters

looks like i might actually shell out the dough and go. i canot wait to see all the hippies having bad trips because sonic youth is making their ears bleed.
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

my sister bought a ticket yesterday, $149.50 + 10.50 "convenience" fee + $8.00 = Hold your ankles and bite your pillow, this might hurt.

See for yourself...

I'm still holding out for Phish. There's no one on that list that makes me feel like I just have to be there. Lots of indians, not enough chiefs, y'know? The only one I really love (Neil Young), I've already seen.

You just don't understand how many fucking people will be there. And this ain't no River Stages, where you get to go home at night and sleep in your bed. You get to stay out in the 90+ degree sticky Tennesee heat around the clock, surrounded by mud and (human and animal) shit and hippies and the bad smells that emanate from all of the above. If I do go, I will will be miserable most of the weekend, without question. But certain bands are worth being miserable for three days for. But they haven't booked any of the bands on that list yet.

Oh, and did I mention the traffic?

Sonic Youth and Flaming Lips, to me, are among my favorite acts, both providing some of the best shows I've ever seen. However, JC's reasons mentioned above, as well as the fact that it's an oxymoron (a commercial hippie event), compounded by Mike D's complaint, are why I have no real desire to go. I'll just make a trek another time and to another place to hear those bands.

And I'm still pissed at Flaming Lips until further notice.

Agreed. I'm surprised so many jam band fans can afford these tickets. Maybe they are selling herbal remedies to make extra income. wink.gif

Ditto Flaming Lips for bypassing Nashville, as well as Interpol.

Yeah JamieCarroll, listen to Mr. Wrong! I keep wanting to say I definitely want to go (I'd like to see Tortoise again, and I'd LOVE to see James Brown and The Lips for the first time, among others), but the camping and heat and masses of people thing scares me. I mean, I think Features shows are too crowded. But if we can get a good group together, I think I'd be into it.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Am I a p****? First of all, please don't use that word again; there are ladies present. Second of all, I'm sorry that I don't like spending time in a crowd of 200,000 in hellish weather just to see bands that I (mostly) only marginally care for. If you want to spend your time that way, that's fine, but please don't try to tell me how to "have a good time." And please don't try to compare Bonnaroo to Woodstock.

I don't believe that I could agree more. I just don't enjoy being dirty and that seems to be very prevelant on the DVD that I saw of last year's Bonaroo. Give me a music festival for well-dressed, freshly-bathed individuals and I will have a good ole fashioned time. Also, I think that all of the tye-dye might cause me to have an aneurysm. Not to mention all of the frat hippies...utter disgust is all that I have for them. But other than that, it looks like something that lots of other people would have fun attending. Just not me.

I know a couple of people who went last year and had a great time despite the traffic, heat, and filthy hippies. Of course, they were a high as fucking kites the whole time...

I do admire the exponential increase in quality bands this year, but I gotta agree with JC on this one. I guess that makes me a pussy.

I think that Bonnaroo sounds incredible. In the UK, we have festivals, and they are amazing, don't get me wrong. But the bands that are more "jammy" don't really play them, and if they do, they play short sets. Bonnaroo, from what I can tell, lets these bands run wild. What an amazing thing it would be to have so much incredible and free-spirited music all in the same place at the same time. Are there cops at this Bonnaroo, or do they let slide all of the drug-taking? If so, it could get ugly, you know, with humans and all of their over-indulgences...

item one - thank you jamiecarrol for calling Mr. wrong on his language. I have a filfthy mouth and i might refer to a body part as a pussy, but not a person. might i remind you that pussies give birth. therefor, they should not be synonomous with something weak or unimportant.

item two - camping out is one thing, camping out at a music festical with a billion people around and traffic and heat and overpriced water bottles is a completely different thing.

item 3 - i would not pay $150+ to go because i would not have a good time. if others think this is fun, more power to ya. go to bonarro and be merry. i do not. i also do not knock your idea of a good time.

ps i find the lips and sonic youth a strange addition to the lineup. yet still not enough to make me want to go. remotely.
thank you for being a friend.

speaking of mr. dando though, his new album, baby i'm bored, will be out april 22. maybe he's off drugs now. no on second though probably not.

brian, you're right. i've also never slept out underneath the stars. The closest that I came was one time my car broke down for an hour in the suburbs at night.

i'd love to see tortoise. i'd love to see sonic youth again. but not for $150+. and not at some dirty (not even 2 'r's) festival. i saw sonic youth play memphis in may. it was my 5 year old's first show. they played in front of maybe 80 people... and i didn't have to smell patchouli.

ps: and silly boys,
i've never shot up.

That's probably because it just started last year. Last year the lineup was dominated by hippie jam bands. This year, they're going for a more diverse lineup (which is still heavy on the droning jam band crap).
