TOPIC: Calls from the Dead
Posted  Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 12:11 PM
Post 1 of 9
Apparently there is a growing trend in Ireland for people to request to have their cell phones buried with them.

Why?

So that in the event of being accidently buried alive, they can call someone to dig them up. This surge of fear seems to stem from a recent case where a man from the area was prematurely put in the ground.

Cell phone companies are scrambling to target this new demographic: Taphephobics

They should offer free dead-to-dead calling. It sounds good in theory, but we all know a majority of calls would be dead-to-living. They would rack up!

I'm not so sure you would get reception from 6 feet under. I know even in elevators and around the house I have issues. It's not really the depth of 6 feet that I am skeptical of, but that fact that it is completely enclosed with alot of soil insulation. There is no way for the frequencies to penetrate (ie. windows, gaps, or anything). I need proof dammit.

Anyone up for an experiment? I have a shovel and you can trust me to dig you up afterward.

Brilliant!

You got me cornered on that one. Make the Tombstone with some sort of alloy metal in it, connect a terminal, route a cable through some conduit through the soil and into the casket, connect your wires to your phone, and there you have it. Dead to Dead mobile calling.
