TOPIC: Clem Snide's Soft Spot

I have a college radio show this summer and the station let me take home the new Clem Snide album to review it. I feel like Eef has lost his edge. He has gotten married and had a baby and his songwriting has suffered. All of the clever sarcastic wit I loved him for has vanished. "Soft Spot" is full of love songs.. not that I mind love songs, but these just aren't very clever or deep love songs. "Bread" is one of my favorite Clem Snide songs, as is "Joan Jett of Arc." Those are both incredibly romantic songs, but they have a certain poetic charm to them that is missing on the new album. Anyways, I don't mean to sound totally negative. It is still a Clem Snide album, and harkens back to their light sounds from a few years ago but with the production of "Ghost of Fashion." Judge for yourself, it comes out soon. I still think "Your Favorite Music" is their best album.

I am looking forward to this purchase. I noticed some new love songs at the show in March. I liked them, though they were much more depressing than typical Snide. I will let you know about my feelings toward the album when I hear it.

so even though i've had this album for a while i bought it today, and i think it's great. deffinatly different, but in a good way. every since "the ghost of fashion" came out eef has been telling us that the next on would be different. TGOF is about the bad side of love he said and "soft spot" is about the good side. and since they made an album celebrating love of course the scarcism and pop-culture refenences are gone.
in closing i think this album is better than "ghost of fashion" but still not as good as "i love the unknown"
Of course it's dark. It's a suicide note
