personally, i really enjoyed parachutes, despite yellow (which wasn't even the best song on the album) being overplayed. i've heard some of the new stuff, and i think that the new album will be really good, althought not very different than the first.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

i think that the man who is a lot better. there really isn't a song on that cd that i don't like. on the other hand, there are some that i prefer to skip on invisible band. flowers in the window is my favorite on that one.

have you listened to good feeling? it's pretty good as well.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

I'm a massive Coldplay fan. I've seen them all three times that they've come to Chicago, and they've never failed to amaze in the live show. Chris Martin has some of the best stage presence and some of the best audience interaction I've ever experienced, and I love their music. I've tracked down ALL of their releases (with the exception of the Safety EP, but all of its tracks are to be found elsewhere and only 50 copies wer sold) and I can't wait for the new album.

As one that has heard alot of the new material live, I can safely say that it will not be alot like Parachutes, it will be leaps and bounds better. I remember someone at school saying something like "they had a good little album. its too bad that the success of Yellow will cause them to release an album of Yellow next time around." Not so. "Rush of Blood to the Head" is an amazing song. Look for a live mp3 on some file sharing service. Incredible stuff.

So that's my $0.02, for whatever it's worth.

Will
You may like grandma's yard gnomes, but I've seen Rock City. Remember it.

In my opinion, Travis is much better than Coldplay, save one aspect - lyrics. Lyrics are what keeps Travis from being one of my very favorite bands - some of Fran's lyrics actually sound like they were written by a 5th grader. I do like Coldplay, though. That last single from Parachutes (where they're riding on the back of a wagon in the video) was one of the most emotionally striking songs I've heard on pop radio in recent memory.

Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

parachutes really struck me on the way home over christmas break. sitting in a plane at night gave me a great environment to take in the somewhat depressing music. shiver is definitely my favorite.

Case in point: "Closer every year, so near, the fear is coming clear, my dear the fear is here." Despite this, I also like Travis a lot. Unfortunately I think that Invisible Band was weaker musically & lyrically than The Man Who. I also like Coldplay & associate certain feelings/events with their songs- there must be something nostalgic about them

yeah, it really is. hopefully they can pull it together. i thought that the lyrics on the invisible were much worse than on the man who.

My first Travis experience was in April of 2000 at the Oasis concert I went to. They totally blew my mind live. I bought The Man Who and I still love it. I do like it better than The Invisible Band though.

I did stumble across the new coldplay video at some point over the last 3 days on MTV2 (although I didn't hear the song...for some reason...). I thoroughly enjoyed Parachutes. It was very nice music to read to (it made many school assignments bearable).

me too! i saw them in akron during the sotsog tour. for whatever reason, the only song i remember them playing is why does it always rain on me...

I remember hearing "Blue Flasing Light" during the concert and it really just, I dunno, shocked/moved me. I was in a melodramatic teenager phase (now I've moved on to the melodramatic quasi-adult phase) and it just hit home. That song was a big factor in my buying the album and I was really happy to discover that it was a hidden track after listening to the album and not hearing it.

Nothing on Invisible Band impressed me as much.

I guess I'd take Travis over Coldplay, but I enjoy both. Coldplay is just getting started though. We'll have to wait until August when their next album is supposed to come out to see if they are going to last or not.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

i have heard a bit of it and i liked what i heard. the man who is what turned me on to travis, but i do like invisible band. the beginning of sing just sounds so good when turned up really loud with speakers surrounding you. jc, i agree, the coldplay "wagon song" is very moving-i was really down last summer and i don't think that song helped any.

coldplay is bad about encouraging such things... depression and what not...

i liked "parachutes" when it came out, but now i can't stand it. i don't know what caused this sudden change of opinion...

as for travis, i really really like them. the man who is a lot better (in my opinion) & i agree with what everyone said about fran's lyrics--very simple and trite--but something is just so likeable about travis. did you hear how their drummer was involved in some swimming accident & went to the hospital? don't know the exact details.

he actually broke his neck. the rest of the band and some of the roadies were there with him, but they thought he was messing around. so, they eventually pulled him out. as far as i know, he should make a full recovery.

as for that certain something... they look so innocent. how could you not like a band that asks why does it always rain on me?
