TOPIC: Dancin in the District

Yea I know there is already a thread about this somewhere, but I'm way too lazy to find it. Looks like shaggy will be at Dancin in the District this year, they just posted part of this year's line up:

Coca-Cola's Dancin' In The District Schedule
Headliner, Third Band, Second Band, First Band
May 22nd TBA
May 29th Shaggy, Arrested Development
June 12th TBA
June 19th TBA
July 3rd TBA
July 10th TBA
July 17th TBA
July 24th TBA
July 31st TBA
August 7th TBA
August 14th George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic
August 21st TBA

not really too sure how I feel about this, other than I hope it gets better. I remember some of you were't too thrilled about this being at the colliseum. If its any consolation, I don't think the actual stage is on the parking area. The site said something about a field which makes me think it could be the grassy area by the river. I do know that parking will be an improvement. My big question is if that side of the river an actual part of "the district" ?

Gosh, that band TBA sure is busy!

okay, I'm sorry...It's really late, and that sounds like a bad joke my dad would make.

Seriously though, if they don't get anybody better than these old has-beens, you won't see me there.

i used to be the biggest arrested development fan. may have to make that one

George Clinton is an icon. I shall try my damndest to be there for that. I wonder if Bootsy will be on stage. It will be a psychoalphadiscobetabioaquadoloop.

After watching the movie PCU many times, I must say that seeing George Clinton would be a treat. Considering the fact that I intend to spend about half of my summer in middle Tennessee, I will probably be around for it anyway. biggrin.gif

I wouldn't mind seeing the P-Funk, never have. I might swing by and listen to a little Shaggy at Music Midtown this weekend, if there's absolutely nothing else going on.

It's inevitable that Arrested Development play the occasional show in their home state...

I'll have to tell my step-dad about this, he will be all excited about it . He'll try to make that like a father daughter day or something lol. Enjoying the funk together lol.

And as for arrested dev. I used to like them back in the day, I can remember recording their performance on "In Living Color" on FOX lol but it would seem sooo weird seeing them now.

Pollstar has Nickel Creek slated for July 31st at "Riverfront Park". I'm assuming they mean "Coliseum Parking Lot". That might be cool.

Where did you hear that? As old and boring as they are now, I'd still like to see 'em again.

Ben Matlock-- always on the case.

Better Than Ezra and Cowboy Mouth should be pretty good. The former did a surprisingly good job at DitD last year. Everclear should be worth my 3 bones as well.

06.19.03 2003 NHL Draft Top Prospects Preview
On a different note... I was wondering if anyone here is planning to attend the NHL draft at the GEC this summer. It's free, and they're having a lot of fan-related stuff to boost the NHL in Nashville. I was planning on spending Saturday there.

I"m coming back from V.A. the day before soI'm sure I'll be there for a little while (longer if its any better than the NFL draft) What do you know about getting in?

I heard an interview on Sports Night with the NHL's vice president of events and entertainment. He said the league wants around 12,000 fans to attend. He also hinted that if the city made a good showing at the draft, we might be in contention for an All Star game in the future.

According to the the Predator's web site, it's a free event. The site says, "Stop by any location in Middle Tennessee that POWERade is sold and pick up a free Draft guide, which includes a ticket to the Draft. This program will start in mid-May. All tickets will be general admission. Tickets are available now at the Gaylord Entertainment Center box office."

They will have all of the NHL trophies there on display, including the Stanley Cup. I believe you can have your picture made with the Cup for, like, $5. They'll be giving away posters of Nashville's top draft picks over the last five years. Those players will also be on hand to sign the posters. It sounds like fun to me!

Back to DitD, I might go with Token at the end of the summer to the Indigo Girls girl power/lesbian fest.

Any word on Uptown Mix? That's Nashville's best regular musical event in the summer.
