wow um thank you, it's nice to see that someone else enjoys the Correlian Smuggler as much as I do. As I have stated many times, Empire Strikes Back is and will always be my favorite movie of all time...I am a hardcore geek. Now the avatar shows it heh...

I look like I could pull the ears off a gundark....

Han Solo is probably my favorite character in the whole saga.

Han Solo is one of my favorite characters ever created. I mean, his sarcastic attitude constitutes 1/3 of my personalit. Thank the maker I was introduced to him at such a young age...

i think the trilogy would've been better if greedo had killed han solo and took his place.

Hmm...a budding romance between Leia and Greedo...that I could watch.

In the "so gross I can't look away" way, not the "yeah...." way.

It also would've been cool if...

...Obi Wan had killed Darth Vader and taken HIS place through the whole trilogy.

...Chewbacca had thrown more people (anyone notice that was his standard for of beating up people??)

..the whole thing would've been left alone and the whole "Special Edition" thing and prequels would have been left to our imaginations instead of disappointing us with sub-par story-telling hidden under special effects??

I thought that the A New Hope Special Edition was quite nice and actually necessary since it added scenes that were originally meant to be in the movie. The ESB and ROTJ Special Edition additions (especially the extended Wampa attack and the new music routine) were horrible...just horrible.

As for the new trilogy, I really think that the only flaws in Phantom Menace was Jar Jar and Jake Lloyd (lil Anakin). Darth Maul was bad-ass, the fight scenes were awesome, the acting was nice (to me at least, except Jake Lloyd who had the acting talents of cardboard). I was not disappointed by The Phantom Menace.

Attack Of The Clones is not so easy to dissect. I think that the acting overall was even better, the directing was better, the tone and story was better than Phantom Menace. Of course I do believe that the pacing in AOTC was really really horrid; there were so many botched opportunities for more action (after all, this IS Star Wars). Amidala was supposed to be on the run, but that completely fell by the wayside. The first 90 minutes dragged on but the last 30-40 mintues were unbelievably great. Come on, Yoda...wow...

I totally respect George Lucas in telling his story; I totally relate to his passion for these characters and desire to see them come to life. I'm the same way about mine. Of course, I really do loathe CGI and prefer the puppets. And yes, if all goes well, I will be one of the geeks waiting in line for Episode III.

Wow, that was the biggest nerd-indulgences I've had in a while.

Since this thread is in your honor, you are allowed such privileges.

I think the trilogy would've been cooler if the Ewoks were somehow proven to be the most advanced civilization in the galaxy, and they got to rule after the "evil" Empire was defeated.

Also, the Millennium Falcon should've been a Winnebago.

What I loathe more was the HD. It just looked bad, and definitely didn't have the requisite feel of 35mm. The technology just isn't ready. I worked extensively all weekend with the same Sony Cinealta camera that was used on Star Wars and it doesn't hold a Roger-made candle to a film camera in any respect. You're shooting video and it feels like your shooting video, and part of the reason that the film looked so bad (apart from the overuse of the green screen) was the fact that your work ethic intrinsically drops when you don't have the uncertainty of film to keep you on your toes.

That said, I can see the justification for a CG Yoda in wide shots, but a puppet in the close ups would have mde it so much more lifelike.

Yes definitely. I remember George Lucas, at the time of The Phantom Menace, specifically stating that Frank Oz's work as Yoda was so brilliant that he would never consider using a CGI Yoda. Of course he did and it looked horrible. It saddened my midichlorian heart.

And don't get me started on midichlorians.

i watched a comedy special on patton oswalt, and he brought up the fact that nick nolte was up for the role of hans solo. he said that if nick nolte would have been hans, then hans would have said things like, "aw hell, chewy-baca, you're supposed to fix the millenium falcon, aw hell", all while adjusting his belt so that his beer belly can hang out. just thought i would point that out...

It's funny that you mention that, Ray, because I've heard that Christopher Walken was Lucas' 2nd choice for Han Solo. Man, that would've made for a different Star Wars...

Did anyone see the spoof of this on SNL around the time they were rereleasing the Trilogy? Jay Mohr's impression of Walken is spot-on.

Some very eye-opening perspectives on George Lucas come up when you start talking about the producer of New Hope and Empire, Gary Kurtz. Look up a New Hope on IMDB.com and read the trivia section. Then look up some Gary Kurtz interviews online. It will change the way you look at the saga.
