Well, TF and I will journey to Disney World in a little over a week now, and I can't wait. I haven't been since I was 6 years old, and I am all tingly with excitement.

I was wondering if any of you have comments or suggestions about what we should do. I am always open to opinions and input from members of this board. I must admit that I am quite biased toward you all. happy.gif

Anyway, post your comments, stories, antecdotes, etc. Share your Disney World experiences!

Steph...

I've been to FlaDisney three times- ages 6, 11, and 17. I have loved it every time, though I have loved different things each time. You're going at just the right time of year. It shouldn't be too hot and it shouldn't be too crowded.

Of course, the Magic Kingdom is a given. I especially love Tomorrowland - Space Mountain and those amazing blue Peoplemovers (are those still there? they rule!).

I don't care what anyone says, GO TO EPCOT, IT RULES! Mind you, this is not the place for young kids (I wish my parents had known that), but for the older crowd, I think it's great.

The monorail rules.

I've been to 2 different waterparks at Disney - one older with tamer rides, and one newer with wilder rides (I don't know if they still have both). Those were both great, but might not still be open this late in the year.

The new zoo area (Animal Kingdom, is it called?) looks amazing, too, but I haven't been there.

I've always been intrigued by the idea of Pleasure Island (Disney for adults), but I've never been there...

Over-rated: MGM Studios and Universal Studios. I'm sorry. Some people love these places. But I've been to both and think that they're a waste of time and money. Don't not go to these because of me, though...I'm just an idiot.

when i went to universal (about 5 years ago) i really sucked, however they've made several chages since then, so i don't know what to tell ya on that, however i second everything said about epcot, awesome, but not for youngsters
Of course it's dark. It's a suicide note

I went when I was six. My six-year old self would tell you this:

It's a long way away. I got my picture taken with Mickey and Minnie mouse. Mickey is the boy mouse and Minnie is the girl mouse. I didn't go on any of the roller coasters cause I was too little. My mom didn't want us to watch tv in the hotel room cause we didn't come all that way to watch tv. We stayed in the Polynesian Village. The monorail was neato. They had penny arcade places where you could watch old movies that were flipbooks. You could spin them fast or slow and see the pictures change. If you tried to spin them backwards, it didn't work. The teacups made me sick.

Are you inviting me?

OK... now I feel bad because we're having a private conversation in a public forum. I hate it when other people do that; now I'm a hypocrite.

To redeem myself, I'll add some stuff about Disney parks:

EPCOT is definitely cool. The World Showcase is a wonderful place. When you're walking around the perimeter of the lagoon, it's easy to think that each country's pavilion is just one building. But if you wonder around behind and beside it, you'll usually find a couple of cafes and some small gardens. They're very pleasant places to escape the Disney World crowds.

There are actually three water parks on Disney's Florida property. River Country is the oldest and tamest. Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are the two newer parks and both have some very interesting rides.

The Disney parks go to extreme lengths to create the right ambiance. For example, the bakeries all have hidden vents on the outside that pump out the smell of fresh-baked cookies. A very nice touch...

The Star Wars ride at MGM is orgasmic in my opinion. I rode it twice...only twice...

And try to meet Donald Duck. He's hard to spot since he has to be played by short females due to his body. I love Donald Duck and spent a day looking for him. Um...also don't let your parents almost get divorced while there. That will ruin a trip heh heh heh...

But have fun!

The last time I went to disney world was freshman year of high school. I second everything that's been said so far, plus I'd encourage going to the animal kingdom. it's really neat...like a zoo with rides. they have a really kick ass water rafting ride that is actually kinda scary at times.

A word of advice though: don't throw pennies at the passing monorail and almost get your entire group (the band) thrown out of the park. Just in case.

I've been trying to connect WDW with the Features or this message board since Steph started this topic. The best I can do is to point out that "Baroque Hoedown," which is the famous theme from the Main Street Electrical Parade was co-written by Jean-Jacques Perry, who has been mentioned on here before.

I absolutely LOVE Disney World, Epcot, MGM. I've been almost every year until I graduated. Can't wait to go back. Tower of Terror is a very cool ride, the way they aged everythin in the hotel and The Alien ride in Tommorow Land has some cool effects. Enjoy for me, and definitely tell us how it. I'm excited for you.

Okay, I know this is supposed to be about Disney World, but I was wondering if anyone knew of anything else to do in Orlando. I've been told there's not much. Has anyone been to Pleasure Island? Is it cool? I ask because I'm going to a conference there the first week of November and I've never been. I've been told that it doesn't compare to the other two locations of this yearly conference (San Diego and New Orleans), but I'm hoping to find something cool to do. Does anyone know any cool music clubs there?

You can probably catch some cool local emerging boybands, Carl. I've heard that Orlando has the best around.

Band trips are quite fun (except for the music part). Junior year of high school we went for the Outback bowl around New Years and went to Universal's Islands of Adventure.

Many people can confirm that I died and went to heaven in the Marvel section (and many peole wanted to kill me). A Rogue drawing as big as a bus, I could poledance on Wolverine's claws, I met Storm and Green Goblin....it was great. I want to live there....

As a native Floridian, it's my duty to hate Disney in all their taxfree, destroying our state glory. Although in high school they did let Florida seniors take over the park for free one night a year & they had big dance parties around all the rides. That was nice. Epcot is definitely more interesting than the rest. I'm still partial to Space Mountain, which is totally outdated nowadays. But it's creepy because it's supposed to be pitch black but a tiny bit of light peeks in- just enough so you can see the tracks right when they look like they'll chop your head off.

If you REALLY want to have a good time & are very brave, check out Celebration, FL. It's a "planned" community ala The Truman Show. The last time I visited, it was in December & it was 70 degrees out. They had a banner that said "Now Snowing Nightly!". This is no joke- they were shooting fake snow over their "downtown" area for the villagers to enjoy. So freaky!

Disney World is no fun with parents.

I went at ages 3, 10, 20, and 23. The first I do not recall. The third was with friends from college. The fourth was with Token, who is now my fiancee.

Splash Mountain rules me! It makes me want to be racist and watch Song of the South (as well as call every one "Brer"). The other rides are OK, but that one's my favorite.

I had a lot of fun going with YDDD in July -- definitely my favorite time ever (despite the hellacious heat). However, as another Floridian, I have also been to the mecca many a time myself. I'm glad that some other message boarders also enjoy Epcot. I always thought I was a big nerd because it is my favorite. Some highlights, for me, include: the pub in England, the O Canada! circular theatre thingy (I have a feeling that this is an attraction that most families skip, but mine always stops to take it in. My mom has the theme song, "Canada," memorized and always sings along.), going up in the big ball (I love going backwards!), the moving theatre dinosaur thing with Ellen Degeneres and Bill Nye the Science guy as hosts, and of course the neat-o laser light show.

No theme park attraction, however, can ever top the Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom. I forced YDDD to go when we went in August. I only wish they still had the Delta Dream Flight ride. Does anybody remember that one? I was so sad that it was gone! sad.gif

The main attraction I like from MGM is the Muppet Theatre, but I'm a Muppets fan. Star Wars ride was outdated when I saw it and needed a facelift (I think they've improved it now).

Epcot has a lot of dated things in it. I have no real strong feelings either way about that place, but I'd like to go spend more time there. Captaion EO with Michael Jackson was much better than Honey I Shurnk the Audience.

That reminds me--Alien Encounter is great at Disney World.

I loved both of these although I wish they never updated the Carosel of Progress because it was great when it was getting hilariously outdated. Delta Dream Flight was incredible because no matter how many millions of people were in the park, you could always get on this ride with no wait.

I love Disneyworld and have been probably ten times. My mom has always been a huge disney freak (if you've seen her office, you understand) so we went a lot. I like all three of the main parks, including MGM. The Tower of Terror is awesome. They also have the two best restaurants (the 50's TV diner and the Sci-Fi Cafe).

I could go on forever about this topic, but I unfortunately must go to school now.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.
