I was listening to 'New Day Rising' earlier to day and it inspired me to see if anyone else liked them.

'zen arcade' & 'warehouse...' are the only things i've got by them. i really want to listen to 'new day rising'. i love zen arcade but warehouse is a little too mixed up. too many sappy pop songs. i'd probably like it if 'zen..' wasn't the first thing i'd heard. have you listened to 'metal circus'? i heard that one's good too.

metal circus is really fast, hardcore punk. all of the songs are faster than 'something i learned today' off zen arcade. 'new day rising' is my favorite album, though 'zen arcade' is absolutely brilliant. have you ever heard 'land speed record'? it has a cover of donovan's 'sunshine superman' on it. Very interesting stuff from a very underrated band.

i can't even begin to fathom what that cover would sound like. i'm not sure how much i'd like metal circus, based off of your description. part of the reason i like zen arcade is the variety of songs. if it were all like the first half i would probably not like it. as soon as it jumps into 'somewhere' the mood changes. do you like mission of burma?

yes i do as a matter of fact. i think 'vs.' is one of THE great albums of the early eighties. 'that's when i reach for my revolver'= GENIUS. too bad moby did a shit cover of it on 'animal rights'. do you like the replacements?

Metal Circus isn't all fast. Diane?? Everyone should have a copy of that album. If you want slower material check out Candy Apple Grey.

i've skimmed 'candy apple grey' & it reminds me of 'warehouse..'. i've listened to 'let it be' maybe two times. i have it on hold at my girlfriend's workplace. it's really good. that's the only thing i've heard in full.

Hüsker Dü is indeed pretty tight. I never could get along with any of the subsequent Mould or Sugar, tho. I wouldn't exactly characterize the Dü as 'underrated' either, especially if you were alive and kicking during that time. Ever hear the theme to the Daily Show when Craig Kilborn was still on it? -->Mould.
Anyone who considers themselves fans of the aforementioned or of Burma, MinorThreat, SonicYouth, Dinosaur, Minutemen, all things SST, etc. should really check out a book called Our Band Could Be Your Life. It's about the underground indie scene of the '80's. Required reading if you lived it or if you live for it.
