Hi everyone, just wondering what is the most popular now? Personally, I think buying an album brings so much more pleasure to listening to music. You get to SEE a 'creation' rather than just listen to one i.e. you dont get album art/ the booklet things/ see the thanks list etc. I know it may be cheaper but... surely not as fun?

What do you think?

Also when people have their mp3s on 'shuffle' it also spoils an album - many artists deliberately organised track lists to give you the full 'gist' of what theyre about and to give you the best impression of their music possible. This is ruined if you have your ipod (or whatever) on shuffle.

Any views?

After re-reading this poll/ post maybe i should have added a 'both' option i.e. you download and buy CDs. Oh well... just pick the one you do the most.

Sorry!

As convenient as downloads are, I'm really worried that it might be sending the industry in the wrong direction. I guess one could argue that artists will have to try harder to make every single song great so people will want to buy that one song, but it just seems so artificial to charge me the same price for every single song. Like OE said, taking albums out of context sometimes ruins the concept the artist was going for at the time they arranged the album.

Then again, I'm a dinosaur and my opinion on the matter means nothing.

I definitely still buy CDs. I'll download a song or two here and there on iTunes, but if I want the whole album, I'll buy the CD.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I'm too much of a technical dinosaur to get into downloading much of anything. I also love (real, not on-line) shopping too much to give up the joy of buying Cds. I just went to Grimey's yesterday, in fact. I love the whole experience of rooting through racks of Cds/records. It's just not the same with a mouse.

Ditto, and I think it's an obligation when it's a relatively small-time band. I think file-sharing is rad, though
